O/t Hypnosis

Hey Kerry,

I was wondering how the hypnosis went for you. I tried it many years ago. I went to my bosses brother, a psycologist. He taped our sessions so I could use them at home. I never came close to going out. Just relaxing as you said. I didn't even really relax very well. Nor did I quit smoking.

Quitting is hard and I still smoke a few during the week at work. I have found the patches or some nicotine replacement to be very helpful. SOme here have had good success with Chantix. Give it a try. Much like any other jones, for me a fe days in was the worst.

I was wondering if you'd "go out" or whatever it's called. It certainly wasn't that way for me. Best of luck with quitting.

Kerry-It works if you really want to quit and have no reservations.I did it at one point years ago and did stop.[I started up again years later]I kept the cassette of the session to play as I needed it.
If you go into the office expecting some magic to happen, you will be dissapointed.I think if a person is really sick of smoking cigarettes, any tool will help.
Finally,I just cold turkeyed and haven't picked up since.
I think I was hypnotized outa my money also.

I think I just found the next career. LOL
Dern it! Didn't work....thats to bad. If life were only that simple....lol...I am sure we would lining up at the hypnotist office!

Have you done that patch? I have quit before for 2 years using the patch! It works....but you gotta work it! You know that story. Trust me I am feeling you on this...its time...how ridiculous is it that a grown, somewhat intelligent women in her mid 40's smokes?????

What a dimwit! This is for me...not you...however if you would like to join my club the membership is free!
Yep. I will join.
=0)
Hey there my two wahines,

The patch worked great for me. It took most of the agony out of quitting. Then I switched to just occasionally using the nicotine inhaler, or gum, but I warn you, they both taste like a**.

Good luck with quitting. It's harder to quit than heroin, or so they say.

Love,
Gina
My Dad told me this story about an experience when he was in the Navy.
There was a guy who drove everyone crazy borrowing their cigarettes.
A hypnotist came aboard ship. He put this guy under and told him that cigarettes tasted like cat piss and that if he smoked one he'd hate it.
After it was over, the guy bummed a cigarette and everyone watched with anticipation.
The guy nearly gagged. He threw the cigarette down and never touched one again.
Dad is the most honest person I know so I know he didn't make this up.

Hello to all on this thread too!

The new "Fruit Chill" nicorette gum really does not taste bad at all. It is working pretty good for my cravings. It is expensive though...but not as expensive as cigs.

Hey there Kat, Hey Sarah!

I'll have to buy some of the Fruit Chills then. I've been having the most intense nic fits lately and deep breathing isn't cutting it. I keep imagining I'm inhaling great lung bucketfuls of smoke. I don't think that's what Andrew Weil had in mind for his exercises, LOL.

The working it part is where I jsut get lost. This probably could have worked, but I guess I expected a magical cure. It comes down to willpower, and I seem to have none.
No Kerry! Its not willpower! You have plenty of that. Its an addiction and we give it way to much power. Problem is we equate quitting with loss. Like we are loosing something. I believe when we change our thinking to believe we are not losing or mourning something that is good...we will do better. Important to get the Nicotine out of our system and from there its mental.

Have you read Allan Kerr's book? Stop Smoking now....its powerful. Obviously not powerful enough...lol...but I really related to everything he said. Its about 20 bucks...pick it up if you can. I think that's his name.

balderdash.
Look at how you've quit drugs and apply the same principles to nicotine.
I heard a news report on CNN that some brands of cigarettes have 30% more nicotine than they did 10 years ago.Nicotine is right up there with opiates.
Even when you have the desire to stop, you have this powerful addiction going on.You have withdrawls that are really unpleasant.
Keep trying things. If your heart is into it,it will happen.

BTW....did you light up going to your car after the hypnosis session?LOL

I'll let you in on a dirty little secret of mine.I took up jogging in the late 70's and I would stick my pack of Marlboros in the back of my blue adidas shorts with my fly knee socks. After about a mile,I would stop and light up.I would get such a rush because of all the additional oxygen.I was so clever.
I was the poster boy for physical fitness.

Kerry,

Like addictive withdrawal, you can best succeed with others. Find a group and go for the 6 week withdrawal period. Many who did so in our program found that they went back to it eventually, so they formed another group that meets once a month to stay on the straight and narrow and encourage each other when the urge hits. Most group programs have patches available as well as relaxation tapes. All of it helps IF you are in the right frame of mind to start.

Best of luck. I know it's hard. I watched many, many go through it. (I was secretary and outreach worker of a Smoking Cessation program.)

I did that too...lol. Not the knee socks, though..lol.

Thank you all for the support. I am gona beat this. You are right, Tim. Today, I went back to the sayings...this too shall pass...I am powerless over cigarettes, yada yada.

Yep, I did light up right after. It tased AWFUL so maybe it worked..lol.

yup, I have to look at is as gaining my health back, instead of losing something.

Nice to see you, Pet'smom. How is Pets? I hope she is faring well. I had a really bad night last night with my neck; I hate pain. Motrin did it, though.

Kerri- You are dating yourself with the Marlboro's and jogging in the 70's...hehe

I actually have a picture somewhere of me rolling blading with yep, a cigarette in my mouth. It's absurd.
That was in the late 80s..LOL. I was born in 73.

How you been, Danny? I know you got a raw deal and it is guys like my ex that ruin this whole support thing. I so feel for you. Your girls will know in the end...trust me.

and Tim, how bad was it to quit? I know you said you locked yourself up with snacks, but what really happened? I think it is more the fear of the unknown.
I went to the bfs house and didn't light up from 5 pm till 11 am...and was just fine! NO cravings, just habit.

How bad is it, REALLY?

Thanks all.
