Has anyone successfully been hypnotized for quitting smoking?
I have an appt on Friday and wanted to hear of stories if you have any.
I am desperate to stop!

My brother was hypnotized to quit smoking and hasn't smoked in 20yrs. It was done in a doctor's office one on one, not in group like at a Holiday Inn Seminar. I did the seminar deal and smoked as soon as I left the room! He went home from the doctors office with casette tapes of the hypnosis and would play them at home for reinforcement...He craved over the years, but less and less of course. He is the only one I know of that has been hypnotized and succeeded. I am resistant to being hypnotized ( I fight it) so I am not a good candidate. I hope it is successful for you!

Thank you! I am a skeptic but I have to go in with an open mind. This guy give a lifetime guarantee..meaning, you can go back anytime.
I also have to spend the first 15 minutes convincing him that I want to quit or I get my money back and have to come back at a later date.

Ker- I think if you go in with the right attitude, it will work. I was not in the "I want to quit" mindset..
I am and I am not. I want to quit because of obvious health reasons, but I like to smoke..sometimes.

less than a pack a day..around 15 a day or so..depends..I used to smoke a lot more, especially if I was having a beer or something..
I like it too but I absolutely hate it and now all the kids are on my case, including the little ones..so I'm going to have to do it..I don't smoke in front of them anymore..if they come over, I go outside, and I don't smoke when I drive because of the smell (and the kids)

Also, in the county I am in, cigs are still pretty cheap (around $3.50 a pack). In Cook County (chicago proper), they are way more expensive.

Please let it work!!!!! My mom was just diagnosed with lung cancer from smoking. That was the only thing that made her quit. We went to the casino the other day and it was an indian one so you can smoke and she said she felt like ripping her wig off and showing them her bald head and screaming "see this could happen to you" she is a trooper but it is tough, so please do whatever you need to do to quit. I quit when I found out I was pregnant I did those filters that you switch daily until you are not getting any more nicotine it worked for me. Also I was interested in the post hypnotic suggestions for addicts if anyone has any info on that. I had thought about going for that.

Kerry please let me know how it goes...I am next for sure! I have a box of the patches that I bought for around the 1st of January. I have been putting it off and I am not sure why. Lately I have been having horrible dreams of dying from some insidious disease brought on by smoking...so scary.
I have used laser therapy years ago...and it did work...I quit smoking for a good year plus...but started again...stupid...I know....I remember making the conscience decision to smoke again.
I have quit several times and each time when I started back up it wasn't because of cravings but because I wanted to...stupid...I know....

THE HYPNOTIST AT THE SENIOR CENTER
It was entertainment at the senior center and the Amazing Claude was topping the bill. People came from miles around to see the famed hypnotist do his stuff.
As Claude went to the front of the meeting room, he announced: "Unlike most hypnotists who invite two or three people up here to be put into a trance, I intend to hypnotize each and every member of the audience."
The excitement was almost electric as Claude withdrew a beautiful antique pocket watch from his coat.
"I want you each to keep your eye on this antique watch. It's a very special watch. It's been in my family for six generations.
He began to swing the watch gently back and forth while quietly chanting: "Watch the watch, watch the watch, watch the watch..."
The crowd became mesmerized as the watch swayed back and forth, light gleaming off its polished surface. Hundreds of pairs of eyes followed the swaying watch, until, suddenly, it slipped from the hypnotist's fingers and fell to the floor, breaking into a 100 pieces.
.................... "CRAP!" said the Hypnotist...

Kerry! Good luck I am rooting for you! I have been hypnotized before many many moons ago. It was that Kreskin guy. Anyone remember him. I just thought of this.
It was in an auditorium filled with hundreds of people....I went on stage and did the most ridiculous things....he told me that there was a hole in the wall of this huge auditorium where big concerts are held...thousands maybe...anyway I was standing by the wall first with my finger in the hole....he was doing other things with other people but coming back to me every so often.....he kept telling me that the hole was getting bigger and bigger!
I ended up plastering my whole body on the wall...screaming for help! I did other various stupid things....I remember being terrified of the dentist chair and he did suggest that I would no longer be...it worked for a long long time!
Funny and stupid things we did in our youth....people had a good laugh....AT MY EXPENSE! It was all in fun...but looking back...how humiliating!!

Roxy, I am so sorry to hear that. My mom also got cancer (they say it started in a lower organ) and she ended up suffocating on it when it got to her lungs. Very very sad, and yet, I still smoke like a chimney.
On her side of the family, the life expectancy is under 60. They were all smokers. Even my paternal grandma died before I met her. SO, I really need to do this.
I am just worried about the withdrawl. The guy said "well it isn't like heroin withdrawl." Gee, I sure hope not..lol. I do get really bitchy though.

I was just thinking the same thing. I wonder if a doctor could actually hypnotize someone into not liking a certain food, like peanut M & M's. LOL

I am so mad at myself and just hate it. I think it is like pain pill w/d...we are more afraid than it actually turns out to be.
I guess I will go back. He read from a script, and that wasn't really bad. But, at the end, when he did the marketing gimmick, I got really turned off by that. It wasn't cheap....he should be out getting his own clients, not counting on me to get them for him.
