That is actually really neat..........she has only known the sober you, that is special!!!! Makes me have hope for my futur, i only wish that my dad would be like that one day, but i know that is not going to happne, all well though!
Hawk, I use to come to this board several years ago under different name. It appears all the old names but a few are gone from here. I been looking at the different post for last couple weeks before posting. I just wanted to say I seen your picture after the Sooners won the Big 12 South. I live in Oklahoma as well and have been clean for a while now. Iam a season ticket holder for the Sooners home games. The first three years of my sobriety I could not go to a game because all the previous years which was many we always drank and tailgated before and after the game. Spent many days at O'Connells given them my money. It was probably not until the 2000 season was I able to go to a game and not drink or use pills. I have the chance to go this weekend to K.C. to the Championship game. I can tell your a big Sooner Fan and thats great. Do you ever get to go to any games at Norman? When I got sober I had to ignore many of my passion's such as the Sooners games I had to change my entire environment until I knew I was strong enough to go into an environment where there is lots of partying going on. Just wanted to give your a loud Boomer ! and you know the answer. But I also wanted to try and tie some recovery aspects to this as well..... What was your addiction pills or what. I see you have 20 months clean that is great!
I think I remember you. I don't remember your original name though.
I live just south of Norman and go to about half of the home games. You're right, I'm a huge Sooner fan.
My doc was pills, got hooked on hydrocodone for nearly 3 years. When I first decided to quit, I thought it would be an endless battle. Being clean 20 months makes my pill taking seem like a lifetime ago.
I hope all is well with you. I'll think about you in that 20 weather in KC. I'll be sitting by the fire.
Hay, A true Sooner Fan new the answer to that........ Iam not sure Iam going to KC. it freezing rain here as well and though we were just going to go up there Iam about ready to back out....... We were just going to get tickets up there. I went in 2000 and froze my tail off..... we got tickets in front of the stadium for 5 bucks. We were planning on doing the same Sat. Iam not going to make a decision till probably Thurs evening or Friday morining. Got make sure work is o.k. and all. I have to have a day off after a trip like that now days. Plus my Mom is real sick and I might just watch it with her...... Its tough not going to game and not wanting to get in on the partying part. Most of my friends know Iam in recovery and never tempt me....... but its always there. I am very careful where I go...... if I don't keep my addiction in check at all times Iam putting myself at risk...... as some say" to far to snakey".......But, I have done good at most home games....... Its easier now since you can't get out at half time like the old days.... I might just watch it by the fire myself...... Iam glad Stoops won the Big 12 coach of they year. Iam so proud of our team this year to overcome all they have. Stoops needs to write a book on discpline......... We are lucky to have him........ With Bomar &Quinn getting the boot earyl then the Oregon deal then AD going down.....I just wish AD could be enjoying this....... maybe a bowl he will get to play. Most coaches would have folded their tent..... We should beat Neb. and get to a BCS what a year it has been! I will give up my old name later........ How did you get clean? Did you go cold turkey or sub or what? How much were you taking at the time you got clean?
