Hi everyone, just wanted to mention that an old friend of mine is shipping off to Iraq next week and I hope you will keep him in your thoughts. I just found out and am a little depressed about it. Hope I won't offend anyone but I hate this war and don't see much point in it. I hope he will come home in one piece, he's patriotic & trying to do what he thinks is right but I disagree with it and worry about him. OK, I'll shut up now, don't want to start a political debate or anything, just wanted to mention it...thanks all...

I am good, I have been doing dayshift/ Nightshift on a 24/7 roster for 2.5 yrs now, and are sick of it, So today I quit!
Last day working is tuesday, then I will have to find some casual work,

And congrats on quitting if you hate the job - aren't you leaving soon anyway? I tried working nights for awhile but it totally messed with my system, didn't like it at all. Anyway how long till you head off to Canada?

I want to pop over to NZ maybe this week or next to see my Mother etc, before I go to the other side of the planet!!

I for one will keep your friend in my prayers. I agree too. I hate all the political debate too. I will say that when I do think about the war it makes my problems seem all too small. In the scheme of things, I could be in a lot worse situation than trying not to drink. I could be getting shipped off to war. You know what does chap my bum though, (off on a tangent) how is that we can send 18 year olds to fight and die for us, yet they can't have a F***ing cold beer legally. Seems pretty screwy to me!
P.s. I for one am glad Sadamm is out of power, but there had to be a more peaceful way to do it:(

I'll be thinking of your friend CB - is he married or anything? My H did 9 years n the military including serving in 1st Iraq war so I know the territory.
Don't get me started on the war, neo-cons or the current US president either!!!!
I think many of the troops are between a rock and a hard place - I feel for them, I know for many this is not what they signed up for - but I can feel my blood pressure rising already so I'll leave it at that.

Hey guys - no Idgie, he's not married, he's 28 & never even had a really serious girlfriend, but he is his parents' only son and youngest child, I can only imagine what his poor overprotective mom is going through right now. His decision doesn't surprise me much, he's always been conservative (people were always surprised that we were such good friends b/c our political views are so different). I was going to add some choice words about the president (I won't call him "my president" b/c I certainly didnt vote for him) in my initial post but thought it might be best not to say too much, lol. Suffice it to say that sometimes I'm a bit ashamed to be an American. But I appreciate all the thoughts for him, Val you're right on about the "old enough to go to war but not to drink thing", ridiculous isn't it?
