Me i'm a mother to 3 living children one angel: ben age 11, Alexsandra 9, Robert 7 months old...a pregnancy I lost in 2003. Recovering heroin addict 2 years off h.... used i.v 3.5 years however was a long term coke addict of many years before heroin, cronic multi substance addict of sorts. Still every now and again light drinker. Age 29 in a relationship "engaged" sometimes thrilled about that, sometimes feel crappy about that. Business college drop out, currently stay at home mom, I have worked as a telemarketer, file clerk, janitor, currently thinking of getting a LPN "nursing" degree. My brother is a active h user. I do not go to n.a/a.a meetings I quit H with a methadone program i detoxed out of in 8 months. Really wish i had HAD the $$$ to stay on methadone longer. Don't know anyone on the board "personally" in real everyday life...but, there are a few people i talk to outside this board. To sum it up mother to 3 semi happily engaged unemployed.
Am 37...single Dad to a 7yr.old daughter.Was on smack&benzos for 10yrs...now nearly one yr. clean with one lapse inbtween.Work f/t as a welder..ahem.Live in Ireland but was born and breed in London.Take care.....Davey

my nme is seren,im 30yrs old,i live in n.wales in the uk with my fiance and our two girls aged ten and three,my bf workd shifts at a foctory and i work in a hotel,i did social care at college many yrs ago,but havnt carried in with that since,have been on some sort ov drugs since i was about 16yo,started with hash then acid and then the rave scene and did most ov the uppers i can think ov,i think i enjoyedthat time until i was offered heroin to come off the uppers and me and my bf have been on heroin ever since and occaisional crack,me bf is clean from h for a few days now on 70 ml meth im also on that much meth butstill struggling verry hard to stay off the heroin

Serene just quickly...I am reading a book called heroin which is based in Ireland and her story is similar to yours...i think a lot of people take heroin to come down from crack. Thats how my boyfriend got onto it!

Realised I didn't say much about my boyfriend...who is after all the reason I'm here!!! He's 31 and been injecting H for many years (not sure exactly how many!). He got into it with 4 friends after watching Trainspotting...crazy huh? Of the four of them, one has got clean and is doing well, my boyfriend has been off and on it but is now back on his subbies (yay!), one is in jail for drug-related crimes and one is dead. I doubt that was what the film-makers intended. My guy looks quite a bit like Renton too.
It's amazing how we're all from different places and have different experiences and yet we support each other like old friends. That's true humanity. Don't see it often enough.

Bunny..i think i know the book you are on about..does she come from the North Inner City in Dublin?a place full of smack called Sherriff st....think her name is Racheal..coz i go to the same meth.clinic as some of her exuser mates.
She was in the papers over here last yr.she showed her arms...all infected track marks...she weighed about 6stone...a real wreck...but she got it together and has written a book fairplay to her...and i saw her recently in the news and she looks great...a real eyeopener coz she really has come from the bottom up....anyone using and thinking this will never end ...take heart coz this girl did it.Anyhow Lynds..get back to us i might have a few more titles ya might be interested in...Take care..........Davey

Also BR....yer dead right many of us first came into contact with smack ..especially in the U.K..thru the rave/party scene in the 90s.I had a E dealer who would sort me out as normal...but he clocked the link between being up all weekend and the inevitable Sunday comedown....so he started selling things callled party packs...basically 2/3Es and a 20bag of gear...thats how i got my first taste bout 92....slowly the partys ceased and it was just a party with Heroin.Just for the record there was a 2nd. heroin epidemic in the early 90s far outpassing the one we had in the mid 80s....far more people smoking the drug and not using i.v...so lots of new customers and younger to.Ive gone off on one...so take it eze all.........Davey

Well, I'm old enough to be most of your mothers! I have a 31-year-old son who is in recovery from heroin addiction. My husband and my families have many cases of alcohol addiction and my dad had a few 2nd cousins (my age) who had drug addiction problems, but my son was the first in my immediate family so it was QUITE A SHOCK and QUITE HEARTACHE! I don't know how I would have made it through without this board!!!
He got into a financial mess and started to steal from stores when he couldn't hold a job. He's off probation but still paying off fines. He went away to rehab and has done pretty well at staying clean but has had a few slips or minor relapses. Since the drugs, his memory isn't too good (thought if you, Amity) and he doesn't have much energy...although he does work a regular 40-hour/week job now. He's painting houses....kind of sad in a way because he had a very sharp mind and no trouble finding a job before the drugs and the legal record. He's recovering from extensive (ACL) surgery on his knee too. He's considering going back to college to finish his degree in accouting/finance or changing to architecture. He has his Associate Degee in automotive.
Sorry, gotta run....granddaughter wants to go hang up her picture and I have to get some stuff done around here! Nice to get to know more about you all. Your "other mother" is here anytime you want/need me! I'm proud of all of you for your battle against your demons. I will continue to pray for you!
