Old Timers

Hello all,
This is just a quick post really about a meeting I went to last week - my home group. Two of our members who had started that particular meeting were celebrating 35 years of sobriety. They both shared and there was such a buoyant and cheerful atmosphere in the room. There were balloons and cakes and so many people, old and new turned out to congratulate them.
I looked around the room and was struck by how well everyone looked, well dressed, happy, content and carrying themselves with dignity.

It just gave me such hope and belief that the programme really does work. Although it took me a long time to 'get it'. It was an honor to participate and witness the AA programme bringing such serenity into these men's lives 35 years on. And like us, they did it and continue to do it one day at a time.
There's an "Oldtimers Picnic," held every year here, and they have a countdown (or count UP) for sobriety. Unbelieveable. There was a time when an entire weekend was an eternity!
