Soooooo sorry to post this, but I need help!!
When you bake cookies, and it calls for 4 cups of flour, do you sift it?
The recipe does not instruct me to, but sometimes I do anyway, Should I?
I hate sifting, and if I could get away with not doing it, that's what I want to do.

carol it depends on what grade your flower is and what kind of cookies, with snicker doodles i always sift flower with choclate chip , rarely and with oatmeal, never

I never sift flour, I don't even own a sifter...lol Usually a recipe will call out specifically if you need to sift flour

I am actually going to work for 5 hours tomorrow, I have a friend that owns a resale shop and I brought a bunch of my clothes there, I'm going to start working 2 days a week so that her mom can have a few days a week off.
If I needed sifted flour I would buy some Swan's Down cake flour in a box...lol

Wow! You guys are good. I just buy that stuff by pillsbury that you just cut up and put on the cookie sheet LOL. Good god I have a long way to go as a cook.

Janet 24 DOZEN!!! O M G ! That's a lot of cookies!! Congrats on the job! Sounds like a fun, stress free kind of job, you should like it a lot!
That settles it, no sifting for me. I am making Amish Sugar cookies. Very simple drop cookies, but they have a touch of almond flavor in them, and when you put on top, they are yummy. Been doing them every Christmas for years, and always sifted, but no more!!!

Just curious Janet do you give the dough frozen for others to cook? That would be a cute Christmas idea. "everyone could use a little dough for Christmas" get it??? LOL I am now your self appointed marketing girl. That is an ingenious idea. Patting myself on the back. I love cookies out of the oven and milk....mmmmmm. Now you got me jonesin for cookies.

I was thinking about that today. I saw that Walmart had some gifts that had brownie, cookie and soup mixes in them. I would probably have to make the dough Christmas eve, cause I'd hate for someone to get sick from it sitting around....my CC cookies are a secret...lol...handed down from Mom...I use Self Rising Flour and most cookie recipes use regular...

Armed with my new found knowledge that I don't have to sift, I just went downstairs to get started on making the cookie dough.
But I discovered the confectioner's sugar I made a special trip to the store to buy this afternoon must have gotten left behind on the store counter.
I hate those turntable things at the checkout counter, where you have to turn it around and be sure all your bags are picked up. Mine weren't so no cookie dough tonight. Another blonde moment for me.

One of the greatest things that I've discovered since I started baking alot is Parchment Paper, it makes clean up so easy! I bought it the first time I made the biscotti and I've been using it ever since.

My mom is big into ceramics she makes georgious things and we all ways give vases full of cookie and brownie mixes for christmas! people love them and they are good for kids to start learnign to make things.
