Ot..need Quick Answer Re Salt

oh..

the type of salt i just baked the fish in. IS the type that melts icecream, and snow....it also says to prevent damage to concrete to shovel it off as soon as its melted...

maybe not a good type of salt to bake with, even though we arent actually eating it...the skin and fish underneath may be affected....

Cynical one, the bag doesnt say it has chemicals ..

Hubby still isnt home...now getting worried or mad..dont know which..he doesnt know how to answer the trucks phone so cant even call him...

maybe i will give him that fish...mine too...lolol

ali - my s/o is italian too. we just indulged in salad with a variety of lettuces, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, roasted red peppers, a little feta cheese and a balsamic wine vinegar/olive oil dressing. split an order of linguini with shrimp, scallops, mussels, calamari, and cherrystone clams in a white sauce with gobs of garlic.

call for a home delivery order honey. make it easy on yourself!

What is the brand name and who makes it? I really, really don't think you should eat the fish. If it's like rock salt for ice cream, that just goes between the ice-cream maker and the tub the ice-cream is in, and you have to wipe it down really well so no salt gets in the ice-cream when you open it.
You are absolutely right....i pitched the whole kit and kaboodle down the garborator...

Just couldnt take a chance.....i threw some ( salt not trout) on the walkway and actually HEARD the ice and snow popping and crackling.quite LOUD..then i did it with a whole lot of table salt....nothing...not a snap crackle or POP

much be a difference in salt and if you are rigth CO, eating fish backed around chemicals isnt a good thing....

I used some scallops ( huge ones) that i had frozen several days ago so they worked just as well on the plate..

Hubby was no the wiser that he came close to being the victim of a "perfect crime" tonight DonnaTwo...olol

Their maker is SIFTO and it comes in a 50 klg bag...again just says ICE SALT...no breakdown of sodium in the tables of sodium etc...

Oh well...crisis averted...from now on ill make sure i have my pickling or kosher rock salts at home on snowy days..

for anyone that reads this , do not ever eat salt that is used for the drieway or for melting ice outside..................

dont ever consider it.......

even if it was 100% pure salt..........

would you really want to eat something that was handled and prepared as a substance to be used outside...........

not for culinary pourses..............

i would not

Just on the off chance that anyone can be as stupid as me and would also think to supplement rock salt with ice salt....

The big teflon baking dish ...its ruined...

when i took out the crunchy baked mountain of salt..( fish was inside) the bottom of my baking dish had all the teflon totally eaten off....

normally when you break open the salt mount, the fish seperates and skin stays intact...but skin was all broken up...


Thanks to all that made me think twice about consuming this...TRULY...

It will go down in my books as one of my stupidest ideas...

It really didnt seem that dumb at the time...

in fact i thought it quite ingenious to even THINK of that bag of salt in the Garage..

and i DID have the common sense to read the bag to ensure it didnt have chemicals in it....

It looked the same...exactly..

And just in case anyone is entertaining the thought...i had NOTHING to drink..

I was totally 100% sober...

Anyway..as i said..happy ending, except for my Teflon pan...


Poor Herb...he still doesnt have any idea how close he came to getting his stomach pumped out last night....


Its only laughable cus nothing happened of course...

Question though...why do you use all that salt on the trout? I am not a fish eater but it sounds like you put a whole lot on. Would it not dry out????

There are many substances used for multiple purposes. For example, I sometimes make bath products with sea salt, among other things such as different oils....almond, apricot, olive, grape seed and even vitamin E.

When I buy them they are labeled "cosmetic grade." They are safe enough to put on your skin, but should never be consumed. Even the sea salt I buy is the exact same thing that I buy at the grocery. The key difference is in the processing. Food processing has much higher standards to ensure safety. Even the vitamin E is not safe to ingest. Some cosmetic grade products use chemical extraction that is not safe.

Ever notice olive oil that is cold pressed costs more than generic olive oil? The oil is literally pressed out and no heat is used. It costs more, but tastes better and no heat or chemicals destroy all the wonderful health benefits. Using heat and/or culinary grade chemicals will produce more olive oil faster and cheaper, but the heat destroys most of the health benefit and flavor.

Its an Italian recipe and its fail proof...you arent really salting the fish...you are baking the fish, skin- head- all in a mountain of rock salt...bake it for about 15 mins for a med trout and when you take it out, the salt is hardened on the outside...

You wack that mountain of salt ( which in amount is about half a bag of rock salt..) and the top levels break away, exposing the fish....since you dont eat the skin any way it really isnt very salty...( you push back the skin to show the meat but leave the skin sorta on..) hard to explain..lol Its a cool way to serve fish is all, and it always comes out great...you remove the fish from the salt mountain so theres no salt on the plate your putting it on...trust me it doesnt taste salty...

Sorta like spagetti in a bag...done more for presentation then because it needs to be baked in a bag...but the baked bag gets broken on your plate and it looks ..different i guess..lol

Oh..forgot to mention..you stuff the trout with herb and Lemons before you bake it in the salt....

Try it sometime..if i can do it..anyone can..
