Hey out there! Anyone to offer help to withdraw from oxy?
Hoover- Welcome, and give more details. I myself have never used it, but a lot of people here have..
Hello Hoovergirl,
Welcome to the Board, yep, Oxycontin user here (up to 400mg a day) for pain. Went down to 120mg and went off C/T. The BEST thing I ever did!!!!!! I am currently going off of all medications (haven't been off meds, since a car accident in 2001). I am on Day 2. So please, any advice I can help you with, please ask. I have consulted a Family Doctor and a Pain Management Doctor, when going off of my meds. I hope all is well. I am off and on the computer, in between sweats and baths ;o). Have a good day. Take care, Best Wishes

Thanks for your contacts. I have been seeing a pain management doc for pain in knees--arthritis, fibromyalgia, and knee surgery. He introduced me to oxy's-80mg.3xday. Only, I was introduced to alternate method of consumption, which I seemed to like better. Now, up to 320mg daily, and must start working. Can someone tell me if I should withdraw cold turkey or taper off. Last time, I quit outright for 5 days, but relapsed.
I have been doing oxy's now for over 21/2 years. Started with 20mg and am now up to 320mg. I am also taking blood pressure meds, zocor, prozac 10mg and valium occaisionally. Also suffer from serious constipation.
Ok everybody...help me out here.....that is an awful lot of mgs. I would suggest calling your doctor to set up a way to get off of them. If you failed before and got to day 5.......you might want to ask for help this time.......It is a shame you couldn't hang on were probably past the worst of the physical stuff......the mental hangs longer.
Stay around you will get more suggestions........I don't know much about oxy's my hubby was a pec and herion kinda guy!
Take care, Tina
Oh ok saw the edit....with the blood pressure thing you got going on you do need to talk to your doc......coming off the pills raises your blood pressure....

Oh no... Don't go cold turkey off that high of a dose. I would recommend you speak with your doctor and ask him to help you. Your gonna need it... It could be very dangerous for you to just stop all your meds.... You will need Clonodine to help with your blood pressure and in order for you to just stop.. I was on methadone for 2 1/2 years and cut my dose all the way down to 5 mg per day before I just stopped and was still in unbearable pain for a long time after. So please seek medical attention before stopping. I would really try and cut down 10mg every 2 weeks and stick to that or whatever your doctor suggests... I know you spoke of getting and a job real soon and you need to quit but you need to consider all the health risks involved with going C/T. If I can help in any way, just ask,Rae(Rachel)
In my humble opinion DO NOT CT off the amount of oxys you have been taking and I assume snorting or more likely injecting, it could be life threatening. Not to scare you but this is no joke. Then again I could be wrong as you said you stopped ct for 5 days then relapsed ,you didnt mention the amount you were on at the time tho. There are many others who can offer excellent opinions. Several years ago I was on close to 400 mgs of oxy went to an island and did an experimental ibogain treatment. this is impractical for most you might want to come clean so to speak with your dr. or find an addictionologist in your area. As far as I know the only legal way a dr can write an addict for narcotics to help them detox is if they are a shrink or an addictionologist might be different from state to state but I doubt it . Tho many drs will if your repore with them is good. If your injecting you dealing with a second demon, the whole mental process of cooking up and injecting yourself, watching the blood etc. This is a MAJoR mental addiction also, aside from the pills your consuming tho without the pills you wouldnt be injecting. 300 to 400 mgs is way to much for me to come off with out "some" kind of rehab" others might think differently and their views are as valid as mine . Good luck best wishes if you could be even more open to us about what your actually doing we can help and support you better Ray
Ok, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP! You are right I'm sure. Going C/T is not a good idea. My hubby wants me to taper off slowly, and I think he's right. I appreciate everyone's replies. I will check back later. Thanks again.
Just read your post and just wanted to make a suggestion. If you only take Valium occassionally then hang on to them. When you are completely weaned down to a safe amount per day of oxy's to quit they may help with your withdrawl. Only for short-term use or it will just become another additction.. Also if you are taking blood pressure meds already then you really should seek medical advice and a plan with your doctor. I know that when I was C/T off methadone I was given Clonodine) which is Catapress Patches and they helped. Since you are already on a blood pressure med then I don't know what they would suggest for you! All I can say if your doctor has you taken that high of a dose of Oxy's than surely he should be the one to help you stop taking them and set up a plan with you to get off them slowly.... Best of Luck to you,Rae
Thanks Ramon, sorry I wasn't too clear. I am snorting not shooting. I am only doing 20-40mg at a time throughout the day. Used to give me energy, but no longer. When I went C/T before, It was slightly less mg. I had muscle and bone pain, sweats, cold chills, anxiety. I found it was helpful to either keep very busy or try to sleep. Is this a little more helpful? I'm not used to talking about this to anyone other than hubby. You know--- "Our NASTY little secret!!"
Hoovergirl,
Everyone is correct, taper down with a Dr. It looks like we both have a secret "me and my husband" only knew about our Oxycontin use too. See your not the only one ;o). We live in a very "affluent" area, I don't look the part, PTA, Sunday School Teacher, Soccer Mom, you name it. But with pain, and then addiction, you have no choice. It took me and my husband awhile to get off of the Oxycontin, but it's worth it!!!! I wish you the best, I think I have seen you around before. I hope you keep coming back. Take care, Best Wishes

BestWishes,
Thanks for your advice. This is my first time writing in any kind of a forum or chat room. It's good to know that we are not the only ones with this problem. Sometimes it feels like it tho. I just got caught up with something I should never have begun and now I'm stuck! Unfortunately, my husband joined me and now we have twice the problem. I have never had any type of addiction before except for tobacco. I always thought that was bad enough. Now I have that and the oxy's to deal with. My mother recently died from cancer and I helped take care of her during her last months. The oxy's seemed to help me get through the days and gave me the energy to do what I had to do. Now, it's gotten out of hand and I must go back to work to rebuild our finances. But, enough of the excuses!!!! I appreciate your help and anyone else out there who has responded. I will keep up with this and let you all know how things are going, and I'm sure your encouragement will be a blessing. Take care!

Hoovergirl,
Glad your posting. Don't worry, if you want off of the Oxycontin, nothing will stop you. It sounds like you both want off of it. I went from Oxycontin to methadone, then you can taper. Possibilty, try to taper off of Oxycontin. There are a few ways you can do it. Go see your Dr. and be honest. They would love to help. You are looking at 2-3 days of difficulty, but you know that. You can do it. My husband also went off of the Oxycontin. He never took pills ever. We were physically hurt, and did not know the side effects. I wish you the very best, keep posting. Take care, Best Wishes

Opiate withdrawal is uncomfortable, but not life threatening. It is, however, an awful lot. Consult a doctor.
Try to find a dr. that perscribes suboxone my husband was addicted to oxycontin and the suboxone has a blocker in it so you cant get high from pain pills.
