i am sitting here reading the posts. I hae posted in the past with questions. Now i really know that i want to quit these controlling pills. For your information I snort about 120mg a day. Yesturday i only did 40mg and none yet today but i feel like s*** and feel like im going to s***. Ha Ha!! I guess what my question today is how did you people get over the pain the first couple of days and not go back to the pills. Right now I have called my dealer to come and drop me something off. I just want a little so i feel better but I know its just going to lead to me doing 120mg by the time i go to bed. It just sucks this circle!!!!
Thanks i just needed to get this off my chest
thanks

i wish i had the answers for you. i was taking only 2-3 percocets a day. i quit c/t. i know it is completely different with you, but i can tell you after over 2 weeks i feel like a completly different person. you have to find a way to gut out the first 4-5 days. i can tell you as long as i had pills on me i never could stop. i had to throw the rest of my pills away to quit. it helped me mentally knowing i did not have any pills on me.

Hi there being an addict of any sort is tough going and like i said in previous posts there is very few days in a month when we have the urge to quit all i did was take advantage of that opportunity and hang on for dear life i wanted to quit i admittted i had a problem many many years ago searched for help could not find the right help for me so i just decided to help myself which is the first step to any recovery i then changed my negativity in positivty and here i am it wont work for all but it is working for me. you need to decided first if you want to quit then act on that constructivly GP, Group meetings, whatever it takes. good luck jackie xx
Emac,
I was oxycontin 60 mg/day for 2+years. I never snorted them, so I can't relate to what that feels like..but I did start a weaning process. I was HIGHLY motivated to quit oxy due to the high cost of buying them (even with insurance it was over $100 for a 30 day supply), using this made me tolerant to other narcotics and the doseage for narcotics kept going up..which made no sense to me to have to use more narcotics because of the effect of oxycontin.
I wanted to wean by 1 pill per week and be done in a month, but it took me 2 months. I don't care how long it took I am just glad I was able to quit.
I do know that going cold turkey is NOT a good thing..my doctor told me that after a week, the withdrawl symptoms would be less..but I couldn't go c/t..so I did the weaning process.
I hope you find what works best for you and that you do have success in getting off this drug. You may want to first take it orally and reduce from there.
Good luck
Sassy

Thank you for the reply. Do any of you think it would be better to start doing perks or any type of opiate that isnt as strong. Then starting to wean. Will this make the withdrawl symtoms any better. Maybe the withdrawl is just there no matter what and i need to just deal with it for a week or so
Thanks for all the help. I know i really need it

I personaly dont think its a good idea swopping one drug for another but in some cases it has worked can i suggest that maybe you go and get some proffesonal help whilst we can help with support on here thats where our expertise lies im affraid we dont know your situation or your medical background and i personaly would not advise anyone to do anything except get proffesonal help if for any reason that is not possible for you then its for you to decide which action you take good luck with it hun take care jxx
edited bad typo brain going faster then fingers lol
p.s please let me know what you decide and how your doing hun

the withdrawl is gonna be there no matter what emac. I will tell you that hydrocodone (vicodin) though addicting as all hell is slightly longer acting then oxys and the longer the action the easier it is to wean so if you really think you can get on a weaning schedule vics would make it a bit easier (but in no way, easy!). oxy (when snorted) kind of hit you the way coke does all at once and then goes away quickly because of it's short action making it one of the hardest opiates to quit...it's probably right up there with h (my adversary). so if you're gonna wean, i suggest you use a different ope then oxy...I've been hooked on both and found vicodin withdrawls to be a little better. but like i said before, NOT EASY. there's plenty of people here having a hard enuff time getting off the vics but its DEFINITELY easier then oxy.

It is possible to do a taper on the oxys, then switch to the percocets, taper them and quit. You start by leaving a small line off your dose, then a bigger line and so on. Even w/d from small doses after a taper isn't a free ride, its still tough. I dont think tapering has a high rate of success, but what does?

i say to you - i got through the first couple of days without going back to pills with a whole lot of help.
i have been able to stay off those pills with much more help and a whole lot of action to stay in the light of recovery.

Again, people, please remember that we all are not Dr's. We can only offer our experience. It is a medical fact that oxy is a very scary potent drug and that cold turkey is not a good idea. You risk siezures and possible death from w/d with this drug. Please, even if you have not been prescribed this drug, see a Dr. Most if not all will help people who are serious and sincere in their quest to become clean.

hi emac, iv read your post, iam going thro the same thing, the first week is the hardest, iam also in a lot of pain also. the only thing that helped, was taken tylonol, plain or asa, it,s one of the worest withdrul, but only with shaering it, with people you trust, can make it a lot easery, good luck. toby.
good luck to you. I had a similar problem with the oxy's and I did taper down and took only my percs (10/650) now today is my first day with no percs - I've taken some Vics today then I have some Methadose 10mg to try to wean myself off. This is really my first REAL try to quit. I'm just taking it one day at a time. I'm looking forward to being clean but not looking forward to feeling like s**t! All along knowing that 1 little pill will make it all better. I think after you get over the physical WDs the mental WDs are hardest to deal with. Well I wish you all the best.

My 21 year old daughter was snorting 4 80's a day. She weighs about 100 lbs. I brought her to a detox today. The place I brought her to is in the city. of course this means homeless, ex-convicts ect.. i have been trying to find her a bed closer. She is like a fish out of water. when I saw what she was going through yesterday, how her body was in so much pain, i could not understand how she had gotten to this point. she told me she only feels happy when she has these drugs. I guess your home environmet has absolutely no effect, being raised in a normal household with two parents did not change anything. i only hope that she will understand that she does not need these pills to be happy, that the euphoric feeling is only temporary and eventually these drugs will kill her
Donna,
Thanks for sharing your story. My name is Marie. Believe me - addicts come from all walks of life - it holds not discrimation to race, religion, upbringing, or whether youre a millionaire or on welfare. This is one thing that I do know.
I am fairly new to this board. I was at one point doing alot of oxy's - Thank God I was able to stop that on my own. Only to keep taking my percocet which was up to over 20 10mg pills a day.
Anyway today was my first "opiate free" day and I'm not going to say its a bed of roses! I'm just taking one hour at a time.
O hope your daughter gets the help she needs. She lucky to have such a caring Mom like you. Dont ever give up. Its tough. But if you read on alot of posts here you'll find how worth it it is.
Lot of luck to you and your daughter.
