I am on the 4th day of withdrawl from oxy and am still so miserable, my digestive system is so messed up. I havent eaten for days and I have been taking ativan a couple of times a day for anxiety, couldn't have made it without it. It doesn't help with anything but sleep. Does anyone out there know when this might turn for me as far as symptoms go. What will I notice, I don't feel like I can go on like this, and I have to go back to work next week. I am scared I won't be strong enough. Do you get better quickly when it happens or is it just really slow? Help....anyone
Dear LLH,
Four days is great! My worst days were always days 3 and 4. You can do this, please don't give up. I know it is difficult to eat, but drink, drink, drink. You don't want to become dehydrated. There is a list of OTC's that someone I am sure will post for you.
I will pray for you. Stay strong, you are doing great

thank you so much for responding.....
I have heard people say that the first 4 days are the hardest. This is actually the 5 day and every time I think I am getting better I throw up again and my chest is tight. Will I ever be myself again. I feel kind of dead inside like my personality is gone. Can anyone give me an idea of the stages of this?

Welcome. Its hard to say how long it will take for you to feel better. Its different for everyone. The best advice I can give is just take it day by day. The quicker you get back to your normal routine, the better. Try some light exercise to get some energy back, and drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Good luck, its hard but its not impossible. Keep moving forward.

Dear LLH,
Congratulations on day 5. It will get better. I am over 5 months sober now and everyday gets better. I know you are hurting, I have been where you are 4 times. I have gone through cold turkey withdrawal 4 times. Palogal gave you some great advice. I know you physically feel horrible, but if you can try to do some sort of physical activity, it helps. I have withdrawn without physical activity and withdrawn doing some physical activity and the later is better. Even just go for a short slow walk outside and get some fresh air, it helps. While you are walking, pray, meditate, think about what your life will be like without opiates. I know you are mentally feeling nothing right now, but the "good" feelings you were feeling with the pills is fake. Your true self with come out with time. One day at a time. Keep talking, keep writing, keep reaching out. You can do this and I am praying for you.

Congrats on making it this far..
the 1st 4-5 days were the worst for me..and then it starts getting better
Please remember that you are so close to finishing the worst of the withdrawal..
You could be only 8 hours, or 4 hours or even 1 hour away from feeling so much better...the last thing you want to do is give up now with this many days behind you..right?
Its hell i know...but you can do this, and you will feel so proud of yourself once you get through it...

I am not about to give up at this point but if I am maybe just a few hours away from feeling better does that mean it will get much better all at once or is it going to be a slow I feel crazy right now. This site is really helpful
Gosh honey, im trying to recall exactly how fast that "feeling better comes on"
From what i recall...its like you can lie there feeling like crap, and say your watching tv...you watch something for a full show and then suddenly realize you dont feel SO bad....and you'll get up and try to do something and then think..well i dont feel that great either...lol
Well those moments of feeling better will come more and more, and you may have found thats already happening....its really very much like a bad flu...you get better like that....
Just know that every hour that is passing is moving your TOWARDS being your old self...im sure that tomorrow morning, after getting some sleep, you'll be feeling even better then you do now...
hang in there..its horrible i know, but if youve ben abusing pills for awhile, you have to think that the time you have to suffer through the withdrawal is no where near as long...can you imagine if you had to go through withdrawal one day for every day youve been abusing them??
id have had to go through withdrawal for more than 10 years!!! Comparitively, the actual days we have to suffer, though awful, are quite short...
hang in there!
hugs

Thanks you guys whoever you are. I keep checking to see if anyone has responded and it gets my mind off of how bad I feel I tried to walk around the house and now I feel really achy and irritable, felt good while I did it though. Is there anyone out there that can describe the stages my body is going through. I guess I am just one of those people that needs to know what is coming next so I can get my brain ready to handle it. It won't get worse again will it, when will I be able to leave my house. Do you just feel weak for a while or does your strength come back, I am having a hard time again. Definatly not considering taking anything, just wondering if I am going to live or not. This is brutal.

Your almost over the worst of it now. Hang in there! I know it is hard but look at it this way you can stand it for one more minute and when that minute goes by you will be able to stand it for another then another and before you know it you will be over it.
llh- you are going to live. Believe me. It doesn't seem like it now, but you will. In fact, your chances of living are much better now than when you were taking pills.
And yes, the energy comes back. It varies person to person. I feel completely normal now, but its been a while for me.

Hi there,
How you feeling??
i just wanted to post back to you because when i read your last post, I thought that or I remembered that I also had that feeling that my personality was gone, and the thing that really made a big difference to me was supplements..
You say you haven't been eating properly, so I would imagine that your body as WELL as your brain is really running on empty...
Your brain will make its own endorphins again...something it stopped doing or slowed down on because of the narcotic use...its the old adage if you dont use it you lose it...but it will come back once it realizes that there are no more false endorphins/serotonin coming in anymore....Some people, actually many people need an anti-depressant to get the process going...
Look through not just the threads here, but the information this site has..click on addiction medication at the top of the page here, and peruse that whole section...
The supplements that worked best for me, beside the anti-depressant, and the one that you can feel almost instantly is the adrenal supplements, and Vitamin B6, 12... Our adrenal glands also get absolutely positively exhausted from overstimulating our brains with narcotics, and this more then anything else can really make you feel lousy, and will in turn affect other parts of your body/brain to make you feel lousy..
In summary, you should get a really well made adrenal support, and make sure that it has actual adrenal tissue in it....and some Vitamin B complex...which has B6 and B12 in it...) Vitamin B is a water soluble vitamin, so if you can get a good strong one and or a time released one it would be best....
( water soluble vitamins- you excrete excess in your urine...fat soluble you have to be more careful with as the excess gets absorbed into organs or tissue...those vitamins are : A D E K ) If you cant find a time released one you may need to take them several times a day, maybe even 3 times a day.
The one last thing that i cant recommend enough for you right now is to drink drink drink, and preferably anything with electrolytes in it...again, its something that you can feel the effect from immediately if your off balance...
Hope you have someone that can go get those for you..i know you probably dont want to get out of the house at all...but going outside, walking, anything that gets you moving will in fact help you to feel better cus it will get your endorphins going again....
Hope this info helps..please do read through this site, there is so much here besides just the message boards...theres a wealth of information about addiction, choices for treatment, etc...
Hang in there honey..your doing great!
hugs

P.S. Keep in mind once your Dr gets you off of the valium, you can use GABA to do very much the same thing, to help keep you calm, and or Valerian root, which is what valium is extracted from in the first place.... Both are much better for you then Prescription Valium, and can get you over a period of anxiety..
P.S.S. Please make sure you check with your Dr and inform them if you are adding a supplement.I am not a Dr, but these are things that really worked for me.....

Hi,
It's been my experience that some symptoms will fade quickly and others will linger for awhile. But, with each symptom that eases up, the others will not seem quite as bad. Everyone is different, by I can remember that by day 7, I was always "significantly better" than day 3. I always found that once I had the energy to walk up a flight of steps or to dry my hair, I could more easily distract myself from some of the other things. Hang in there a little while longer. Most likely, you are finishing up the worst of it, and will start to feel a bit better each day.

I slept through the night with the help of 2 ativan. I woke up at about 6am and thought maybe I felt a little better, but when I tried to get up I had to hit the bathroom again and and it is still liguid, yuck. I feel so weak and I don't feel like my head has cleared out yet. I feel about like I did every 3 hours after taking oxy and before I could take the next dose. Not really in withdrawl but kind of in la la land just anxiously waiting for something to make me feel better. I was hoping that my own brain was going to kick in and start doing that for me but it sure seems to be taking a long time for this fog to lift. Could the ativan be keeping my brain chemistry messed up? Or am I just not there yet. The Doctor gave it to me. I really need to hear that it will get better then this, I want so much to feel good again and strong and happy. This is the 6th day. You guys are like angel counselors, it is hard to be all alone. Do any of you remember if you woke up feeling a lot better one day or if it is just goes on so slow like this. I seem to feel a little better in the middle of the day and horriible in the morning and at night. This is taking to long.........
Day 6 is commendable...good for you. Be realistic though. You didn't get addicted over night, you're not going to be "un-addicted" in a short amount of time either.
Once the physical part is over (7-10 days, but everyone is different), you then have to deal with the mental which can have a lot to do with how you're feeling physically. Mind over matter. At some point you need to get to the bottom of why you self medicate in the first place and then put into place a strong recovery program. Yes, it's time to come clean and start telling some people what you're going through. Honesty. It's your best friend.
What have you done to cut off your sources? You cannot have one single opportunity to get drugs at this point.
Glad you're here and hope you stick around. There's an awful lot of new people lately and it would be great if you all could talk to eachother....

llh, congrats on making it through some of the worst of it.For me,the recovery was quite slowly.Everytone is different and everyone has one area or another that is the worst part for them.My worst part was back ache and body aches,i felt i had been hit by a mack truck, literally. It took about 3 weeks to feel better(that part)then theres other parts, the nauseua, not sleeping,etc...you know what im talking about. It seems as each symptom starts to go away(like Atlas said)the other symptoms feel less and less.
youre doing great, hang in there, its going to take time,no,not quickly, slowly, but before you know it,you will wake up one day(soon)and feel different.Oh what an amazing day that is.Hang in there, you will have many more questions, and just about all of us here have felt exactly how you are right now,we can help with words of encouragement, and what to expect,etc....youre making it,thats the main thing.Congrats, and keep posting!~KIM

Keep in mind the EVERYONE is different, but MY experience with Ativan is that i really screws me up. I have an entire week that I have no memory of in December of last year from Ativan. For me, it would be keeping me messed up.
I know it is hard, but do you think you could try 1/2 a day or so without it? I am sure you probably need it to sleep right now, but are you taking it durring the day also?? I have had some good luck with valerian root, you can get it a Rite Aid and Wallgreens. It is in the same family as Valium and can really help with anxiety.
Good Luck, you are doing good!!!
peaceout

Well I can eat a little now, the worst physical symptoms are over, but I have this empty feeling and no energy and I am so irritable. I hope this goes away soon I have to get back into my life. I get the feeling this could last a while. One of you posted a suggestion for a supplement but I am not sure what that is. An adrenal support with actual adrenal tissue. What would the name of that be and where would I get it, a health food store? Any other ideas to make this go faster? I have been trying to walk around the house and up and down the stairs but I feel light headed if I do to much and am still so achy. Thanks so much again and any suggestions would be appreciated. llh
