Percocet

I am 44 years old and new to this . I currently take 15 to 20 525 per day. I hold down a managment position but am starting to have a few probles. I have had this problem for aprox 5 yerars. I have tried detox 4 times and Phycs, Docters, the 12 step plan and no results. My suppy of meds will be ending in dec since the docteres will no longer be issuing Narcs. I need to stop and have tried everything I can think of...Any suggestions

thanks Jim
Jim, have you tried to taper? That didn't work for me, but a few people here are dong it and it seems to be working. I went cold turkey, and as I have said before, that was the only way for me. W/Ds were awful, but I made it through. You can do this! You are very brave for making the decision to stop, so I know that you can do this, too. It won't be fun, but very much worth it. Maybe you should talk to your doc and tell him the situation. He could give you something to ease the w/ds. I don't know much about it, but there is a med out now called Sub (little help here, friends?). That's the abbreviation, but it's supposed to help with w/ds. I'm sure someone else could give you some more info about it. But, please don't stop trying! The first step is acknowleding you have a problem. Well, you've done that (CONGRATS!), so keep going!
Jim, is the dr loosing his ability to prescribe , or is it just for u & are they for legit pain (at least in the Drs mind & charts). If so i gotta think he has an obligation to come up with a plan to gradually detox u, not just cut u off. if he questions this u might want to look in the PDR where they instruct the dr that the patient cant be immediately stopped. there are many options depending on ur exact situation, but if u have been thru 4 detoxes & are still using, u need to talk to a good drug counselor for advice on what to do.
Jim, try to taper as much as possible these next few weeks.... That never really worked for me because I would just tell myself "Okay, just one more," until I really, really was ready to quit (and that doesn't sound like the case with you... it seems more that you are going to quit because your doctor is cutting you off).... Anyway, taper as much as possible so that way when you are without, it won't be as hard.

Then plan on taking off a few days off of work (I took off one week) and just ride it out... Withdrawals suck, but they are not unbearable. Just get some good sleeping pills, some ibuprophen, Immodium, and stay near the bathtub and you'll be fine.....

And post on here a lot... I've found the support from this forum really helpful!
Danielle- I take a small amount and for a short time and I am tapering and to me, for some reason, the withdrawls have been horrible..
THE DOCTOR IS LOOSING HIS ABILITY TO PRESCRIBE, AND AS FAR AS HE IS CONCERENED IT IS LIGIT PAIN i COULD DOCTOR SHOP BUT IT IS TIME TO QUIT. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TAPER BUT JUST LIKE SOME OF YOU I KEEP SAYING ONE MORE WON'T HURT. i AM TRYING TO WORK OUT DAILY AND LISTING TO TONY rOBBIS FOR INSPERATION.
THE OTHER PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN i HAVE QUIT i RUN INTO PROBLEMS LIKE KIDNEY STONES AND MAJOR DENTAL PROBLEMS AND AGAIN AM PRESCRIBED PAIN KILLERS ....EVERYTHING FROM A MORPHIE DRIP TO MORPHINE PILLS TO THE PERCOCET. AND SINCE I HAVE SUCH A HIGH TOLERANCE IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET MAJOR PAIN UNDER CONTROL.

APROX 20 YEARS AGO I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WHEN I HAD A LUNG REMOVED AND I SAW A DOCTER THAT PRESCRIBED LIBRIUM ( HIGH DOSE ) AND THAT TOOK CARE OF IT BUT I THINK I HAVE TRIED THAT AND IT DID NOT WORK...NOT SURE.

WILL BE GREATFUL FOR ANY ADVISE

THANKS JIM
