Physical Withdrawal From Lortab

I need some advice. I've been taking Lortab for about a year and a half for shoulder pain. I had surgery last August and now I'm having another surgery on the same shoulder this month. I was taking 4-5 lortabs a day and recently decided I wanted to stop them. I started to wean myself off, but now I'm having problems with having to go to the bathroom constantly (bowels). For two days I've hardly been able to leave the house for fear of having an accident. Not diahrea, just loose stools.
I am only taking three lortabs a day and have spaced them out allot. Today, I took two lortabs within five hours and my stomach felt better. Any suggestions? Should I wait till after this next surgery to go off them?
bump.......
Wait until after your surgery....if you're only taking 3-4 pills a day then your withdrawals shouldn't be too bad! Nip it in the bud now before your tolerance gets to 3-4 at one time!

As far as loose bowels, just take some anti diarrheal med. (exactly as directed)

As soon as your surgery as healed up, get off those things!

Good luck to you!
MaryPat,

Are you taking the lortab for your pain, or are you taking them for the way they make you feel? That's the $10,000 question. Just because you take pain medicine doesn't mean you are an addict. It's the Why you take them. If you can go days without any Lortab or if Aspirin works, then stop the lortab now. If you need it for your shoulder surgery coming up, just get a FEW then. I had shoulder surgery 1 1/2 years ago and the doctor only gave me meds for one week. (granted I was getting them elsewhere, but the amount of pain relievers needed for such a surgery was minimum).

As for withdrawals, get the immodium AD and take as directed. As much as you don't want to, eat something. It's just like when you have a stomach bug. Start with clear liquids and work your way up. Make sure you drink lots and lots of water. I can't stress that enough. The sooner you flush your system of the toxins, the better off you will be.

Keep in tough and let me know how you are doing. Karizza@comcast.net
