Let me begin by saying I am new to recovery. I only have 2 1/2 weeks clean from opiates. I choose on my own to seek treatment, as I realized my addition was out of control. The reason I am writing is because I ran out of my suboxone 7days early. I had a 2 week script and I'm prescribed 8mg X2 daily. Although I knew I wouldn't get a "high" from them I think it's just the habit of "chasing the feeling ". I of course now feel Ike an idiot and am worried about my urine test in 7 days. I just had a urine test today,but I didn't run out of meds early. After my urine test I have my 2wk appt with the dr. I'm sure he'll be able to tell my levels from the urine . I feel ashamed and really need this program. Any advice ? Thank you
Tell him the truth... You're an addict. It may be that you can find a trusted family member to hold and dispense your Subs for you. I could never take any narcotic right, which is why eventually I had to get off of everything. But, I was in the same predicament you are once. It's best to come clean, you don't want the lack of Subs to trigger some worse ideas. But, I had to tell the truth and have a valid plan not to repeat it. It's stupid as hell to give an addict two weeks worth of meds in the beginning anyway.

One more thing I wanted to add : less is more with this drug. This isn't like any other opiate you've ever come across. If you start out upping the dosages, you'll have a hard time getting it to work for you longterm. These docs will give you a huge dosage to start off with and although I'm NOT a doctor, I'm a very experienced opiate addict. You can accept the prescription as written, but try to limit yourself to 8 mgs/day. If you have to split it into morning and night doses, to appease the pill popper urge, I get it. But, I would set a goal to eventually get down to 4mgs/daily. Once you get settled on this drug, you'll find that between 4-8mgs/day will get you right where you want to be. In my humble ( yet vast ) experience, 16 mgs is a ridiculously high dose to start someone off on for maintanance. I don't even think they start you off that high in detox and they are steadily weaning you in the process. Be your own advocate... research this drug. I promise you that you'll be so glad you stayed at low dosages, if you ever decide you want to get off it.
