Recovery Books

I just spent $50 on recovery books on Amazon. Looking for reviews on each (after the fact)
I bought Living Sober,Twelve and Twelve,Prayers of the Twelve Steps,Came to believe, and 12 steps a spiritual Journey
What a Dork! I was having a moment obviously I think I can use them and pass them on but why did I do that...That is one of my defects impulse buying.

Anyways...any reviews welcom
LMAO
.........wait till you start buying books that you've already read.Either I'm developing premature Alzheimers or the organic damage from opiate addiction has finally caught up with me.
They can't do this stem-cell research fast enough for me.I want to order a gallon in advance.LOL
Jane it is funny you mentiond that book. my mom just sent it to me for my trip pants
Jane...
I think you spent the money wisely and made some very good selections...what I see is a few dollars spent on books that are only going to strengthen your foundation in your recovery...Obviously, your HP wanted you to have a few so let go of the guilt......I don't have Living sober yet but plan on picking it up...Remember you can pick books up at cost at the meetings too...

You go girl....I love ya....
xoxo
Stacry
Sure Stacey now you tell me. -LOL I actually bought a few of them used the 12 and 12 was .01 cents. I just had to pay the shipping. So your right I really want to read them right now. This weekend. I have to wait until monday. Any selections that I didn't buy that are good??

Tim-LMAO Hell ya I already do that. With non-recovery books I am a book hound I have too many as it is some in duplicate. LOL Alot are the equivilant of a lifetime drama but I do enjoy reading. Too much sometimes I can't get my nose out of a book.

Two of my favorites are Daily Reflections and Just for Today...

Oh, and for both you & Tim, I still buy duplicate books and I will actually start to read them and about chapter 2, I'm like I think I read this...LOL....
LOL
They're all good. The 12 and 12 is an aid to the Big Book in working the steps, Living Sober is a great book. The rest are good too. There are others also like "As Bill Sees it", "Pass it on", "AA Comes of Age" and I can't think of the others. Living Sober is one of my favorites.

Kat-I'm glad you said that about the living sober I paid the most for it. LOL. Hopefully I will get the most out of it. THanks for the other suggestions. I want to read Bill's way.

Thank you all for confirming I did o.k. with my purchases. I always get buyers remorse. I think it will be money well spent. Till I don't have grocery money-LOL Mom lives around the corner guess I'll do this weeks shopping there.
Love,
Jane
Edited to say: oops! "As Bill Sees it",
hey honey

Im not sure why you think that it was a stupid thing to do..reading is never stupid...its empowering...
Every challenge or problem i have had in my life i have bought books and researched...reading different views on addiction is a great thing...only once you know various views of addiction can you decide how you view it yourself...

Iv e read a ton on addiction...one of the best books i ever read (IMOOnly) on addiction was "The truth about Addiction" by Dr Peele..cant remember the co-author but you could find it just under his name..

there is also a great book out there called the Mood Cure which goes over how a lack or shortage of certain aminos, vitamins etc can cause mood disorders, and many people that have been self medicating for years are actually trying to
( without knowing) fix the chemical imbalance going on in their bodies and brains...even choco-holics fit that description...

Very interesting book...as i believe that anything we put in our bodies will affect our mind...I know I may get jumped at even the IDEA that drug users have an imbalance butthey dont say it decribs everyone...but think about it..even if only 10% or 20% or whatever %...of people use substances because they are trying to make themselves feel better due to an imbalance...its worth a go...)

Reading is never a mistake..if you are having buyers remorse due to the amount of money spent remember to check out amazon.com .. they have 2nd hand books for 70-80% off the regular price...

Hugs

Ali

I went to the meeting at noon and bought the 12 and 12 if only I had known sooner I could have gotten them all there and not have had to wait. LOL had to share that.
****edited to say BTW thanks your right I love knowledge. Thanks A
Jane-I'm a hopeless bibliophile too.
If you want a little diversity, here are two books I read over and over.

Addictive Thinking
Understanding Self-Deception
Abraham J.Twerski,M.D.

also

When Painkillers Become Dangerous
Drew Pinsky,M.D.

also anything by Caroline Myss...A couple of years ago I attended a 6 week workshop on;

Sacred Contracts
Awakening Your Divine Potential

..it gave me a whole new perspective.
12ths step stuff is great but I got into a rut.Once I started studying some other things the program became even more interesting.Does that make sense?
It all ties into together,
Thanks..Tim I will try those. Glad I am in good company with the (whatever word you just said that describes people who like to read) LOL. I am not yet a firm AAer. So I love reading other things. Especially your posts. *wink
Love,
Jane
Oh yeah, I forgot about "The Road Less Traveled" and "Search for Serenity". I'm not sure on the authors though.
M.Scott Peck
I love it when Peck said
"Addicts are just frustrated mystics trying to find their way back to Eden"

Worked for me.
