Restless Legs????please Help

Last night I kept waking up to the worst..what i call charley horses in my calves..never had so many at once...Id actually yell out, scare the beezusus out of hubby and ran my hand down to my calves where it felt like an alien was trying to come out.....would throw my legs over the bed, despite the pain and put my foot flat on the floor till it stopped.

After waking up 6 times to this..i limped downstairs and ate a bananna, thinking its a potassium shortage....didnt help tho...

Now im scared to go to sleep tonight. Am down to 4 pills a day. ( 25-30 a day 3 weeks or so ago)

IS THIS RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME???

Any suggestions?????????????

thank you for your help

Hugs,

Ali
Ali,

When I get those charlie horses in my calves, the best way to get rid of them is to stand up on them. It always helps, even though that's the last thing you want to do.
I was diagnosed with restless legs, However the requip medicine did not help. I constantly have my legs going. My doctor told me I had it right away.
Usually with restless legs comes the problem of falling asleep cause you have the feelings in your legs that you just can't stop moving them, they feel creepy crawly, squirmy.
I'm glad that you've cut down on your pills so far!!! You have come such a huge long way. I'm so proud of you !!!!!!

Ali, you are sooo funny with the way you type up your posts... Sorry, but I can't help but to laugh at you.......

Yes, those are Restless Legs. Get yourself a potassium supplement and eat as many banana's that you can get down. Also, hot baths help immensly..

Okay, I hope you don't scare the bejezzules out of your husband tonight.. I don't even know how you spelled that one......lmao......

Ali, it sounds like restless legs to me, but I'm not there so I really don't know... Heck ya, your legs will hurt when you are going through w/d... Take some tylenol or advil and get some potassium supplements.

Now, I've got to get a visual of you in those size 15 boots walking the dog....lol
There is a Restless Legs Syndrome, it is a Neurologic condition unrelated to opiate withdrawals.

Opiate withdrawals include a the sensation of restless legs, involuntary jerking and aches. This is a temporary problem that mimics RLS, but isn't RLS.

Posters here often refer to having Restless Leg Syndrome, when they actually have restless legs :)

As others have suggested there is some anecdotal evidence that potassium and magnesium supplements help the leg component of withdrawals - bananas are rich in potassium. Frequent hot baths are apparently helpful too.
Ali,
go to www.requip.com and read up on RLS. Unless you have sudden urges to move your legs constantly I don't think you have it. I always get antsy and anxious when I'm withdrawing anyway, so that might be it.

Stacey
It's very common to have the "restless legs" during withdrawals. Depending on the severity, there's not much you can do except potasium and hot baths. Take as many baths as you want. That's one part of w/d's, I'll never forget and gives me the eeby geebies everytime I hear someone talk about it.

But, they will go away after awhile. For you though Ali, since you are tapering and drawing out your w/d's, you might experience these symptoms and others for a longer period of time.

Sorry kid.
Please, do not confuse having the sensation of restless legs, aches in the legs and involuntary jerking of limbs while detoxing, with RLS.

Cowgirl is on the money, they are not the same thing.
ali,

Go to the drug store and buy a product made by 'Hylands' - it has quinine in it - will help A LOT - it is a small white box, abot 3" or 4" tall, red lettering, with a bottle of the pills inside the box - I can't remember the exact name...I think it might be called "Restless Legs"?? or something legs?? - ask the pharmacist about it - the big thing is the quinine - that is what will help you

Quinine is great, 300 mg twice a day but please check with your Dr first.

There are some significant contraindications for Quine, including prolonged QT interval and other minor cardiac arrythmias, in which Quinine can be fatal.
Good old Swchepps soda water will do the same thing and might be cheaper.
Have you heard the term "kicking the habit"? Thats where it came from. I was at a point in my life that the cramping was not as big of an issue as my addiction. I had suffered worse. I had to walk through that pain to get the other side. I had caused so much more emotional pain in my life that I was willing to walk through that. I got to the other side Ali. So can you. This will pass if you allow to girl.
Yours,
Ben
It is also dangerous to mix quinine with alcohol. Take care with home remedies!
Thank you all for your replies...

Ben, I am willing to put up with whatever to get off the pills, but if there is something that will help, and is not addictive,, Im not going to play a martyr..I'll take it...lol

Hate the tast of tonic, but will try that for sure ( plug my nose and GULP)

Buddha person:You stated:

"There are some significant contraindications for Quine, including prolonged QT interval and other minor cardiac arrythmias, in which Quinine can be fatal."

WHAT IS QT>?????????

Holy cow, all id need now is to get my heart a pounding, and im sensitive to having that happen...so willdefinatley be careful with this one...I thought Quine was a poison that women used to put in their husbands coffeee if they wanted to kill them ( movies people...dont know anyone who did that..lol)

Thank you all for advise.

i am grateful to have it.

Hugs to all,

LEGS FEELING RESTLESS ,

NOT RESTLESS LEGGED GIRL ( right Buddha?)

Ali
Im sorry Ali,
What I did and it was just on whim. I used heat pads on my calves and thighs where it was the worst. When they tightened up I either flexed the muscles or stretched them. It worked pretty well for me but as I said it was just on a whim. Soaking in a hot tub works well.
Ben
Didnt someone say that putting a bar of soap on the foot of your bed would stop that?
Im not joking I swear when we had this discussion one night that soap was brought up.
Ali you got an extra bar of ivory soap?

JD
John Dee,

Scented or unscented??????LOLOL

Hey, if its non addictive and might work

I'll give it a try...

Thanks,

Hugs,

Ali
hey john, someone also once told me that I could go out and get high again if I put my "white chip" on my tounge, and it melted, ha ha ha ha. NO I DIDNT TRY IT

When I kicked h, my legs, my quads would just ache so so bad, I would pound on them, litterally, and my x and I used to take turns rubbing each others legs, also, when I would sleep I would just feel that aching, and stretch them till they hurt even worse, I honestly havent found anything that really works, how about gobs and gobs of ben gay xtra strength with some ib profin. (dear god i cant spell, but i got good ideas)
so how about this, take a banana or two into the hot hot bath with you, after you eat banana, take ibpr. then dry off, rub tons and tons of ben gay on them, and pray pray pray!!! love always, how is everyone? Julie
