I went to the Dr to have him examine my left breast(one more time)because the mammo showed somehting.I had the ultrasound done last Friday.
The Dr found the spot the mammo had pinpointed and he said i need to go get a needle biopsy.
I have never had anything done surgically,never,no broken bones,no stitches ,nothing,ive been very lucky in my life.(i take that back,i had an emergency C-section with my third son)
My question,what the difference between a needle biopsy and a regular biopsy or...are they the same thing.I know some biopsies they go in and take part of the mass out,right?With me,he said they would numb the area(which kind of scares me cuz its my left side where my heart is)and try and take some fluid from the area?Why do it that way?Does it mean they feel theres less chance that its malignant? Somehow ive got that idea in my head,that if they were more worried they would actually cut and take a piece.
Im confused,anyone with any info,i would greatly appreciate it.I should have just come out and asked him about it,but he was busy and i was late,so....Thanks in advance for anything you might know?~KIM

I didn't even have any local anestheisa...The only pain I felt was the initial prick of the needle into my breast...not much, and it didn't last past the instasecond sting of a needle...
I watched the process on the monitor, it was interesting. In my opinion, the mammogram was MUCH more painful.
Here is how it goes...or went for me.
Laying on a table in a room...nurses and the physician was a Radiologist. He is seeing the mass on the screen.
A surgical blanket (thin stuff like the gowns in OB/Gyn's offices) is placed over your chest....there is a small hole in the blanket that is placed over your breast in the area of the mass....that is where they put the needle in. (just so you know you aren't just hanging out topless in front of a lot of people).
You too can watch the event on the screen. It gives you a place to focus. It is relatively quick, and then you are dressed and out the door.
If the mass is fluid...(which is sounds like) it is more than likely a cyst. Many, many women suffer with fibroid cysts.
Please, try not to worry. Anymore questions about the procedure, I will gladly answer.

Kim- Sounds a little scarey! Sounds like you are handling it well. You didn't even spaz out on the troll...lol good for you. I was ready to rip until I read your response. Seems like your in a good frame of mind. Any doctor, needles, all that stuff scares me to hell and reminds me of using so I am looking up to you right now friend. Let us know how it goes. my wife and my mother-in-law both went through this.....medicine has come so far that its like riding a bike to them....keep the spirit up girl and youll do fine!! stay positive and dont b a bla bla bla like thumper!!....keep a positive outlook and a smile on your face!!! laughter is the best medicine baby!!!
