So, I've been thinking lately about doing things at the weekend that doesn't involve getting pissed or getting high so last night i took my GF to see romeo & Juliet at the local theatre. It was not bad actually, a bit long (3 hours and 10 mins) but really glad i went. I'm going to become a theatre buff now. I was beaming at the start, it was so good. Didn't under stand one bit of the dialect, but who carries the worlds biggest dictionary in their pocket?? Well' i did, but in Dundee tones ( boy meets girl, boy fancies girl, girl and boy get jiggy with it, then they kill themselves...) Really good though
What got me was the type of setting i was in. It was like a totally diffrent class of people....very trusting! Like at half time your drinks are LEFT at the bar with your names on them... Now if i had went there a few years ago i'm telling you i would have grabbed about ten drinks and got oliver twist with someone else's drinks. And the ladies were not paying attention to their handbags at all ( i've never stole a handbag, but the old thief thinking was kicking in- not that i would act on it.) If i was on the thief i would have had a good time.
My GF said don't feel intimidated, but i think i felt out of place, not intimidated. Cause, it was like all upper class people and little old me and i'm not used to the surroundings. It's that old junkie mindset i get sometimes, like i don't fit in.... Going back next week so i'll need to get used to it.
I would recommend it to anyone, a great night. Have a great weekend peeps, Kev
WOW Kev thats totally cool...!!
"Is love a tender thing? It is too rough, too rude, too boisterous, and it pricks like a thorn".
GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kev, what an awesome date.............awesome I repeat cause you like that word.
How'd your lady friend like it? Theater rawks...........now there's a thing to get in to..............just beware of musicals.
See, this is things that real people do, right..........real people as if we ain't real.
I used to think that.............son, you're darned cultured.
Hearing ya on the alarm bells of loose purses and drinks............today I even still do that lookout...............like for the love of all things stupid why would a person just leave their purse sitting unattended in CHURCH while they go to communion.............oh that's right cause they never ripped another person off.
Kev, that sounded like a very nice time.............what play is next up? I'm glad ya had a good time............it's a rush sort of ain't it? In a way...........I got one for ya............ART.............a trip to the art museum..............that's a lovely date.......there will be no stopping your cultured self.

Kev seeing as were talking all literary.....are you into yer books i.e Irvine Welsh???im a big reader and Irvine is one of my favs.....got all the titles but the Real Trainspotting as in the book kicks the arse of the film ....which im not a fan of ...i think its like a long pop video...but thats just me.Take care my highbrowed friend.......Davey

Yeah Davey, he's some writer, eh? Porno was ace aswell. Don't think they'll be doing a film of it as Mr Mcregor and Danny Boyle haven't been seeing eye to eye since Leo Dicaprio got the main part in "The Beach". Spud is class in both books...
I would love to Bryn, heard alot about broadway and the shows. Where's my suit....

Oh boy, Shakespeare, now I could wax lyrical!! I got bang into Shakespeare when I was a student. Now if you want to expand on the theme, try Chaucer, now that's a mindf***, but once you learn to speak old English, it's really very entertaining. And hey, it's nice to relax and not feel like you're gonna be pick pocketed. It's a real eye opener when you see how the other half live, and a bigger shock when you realize that you're one of them, LOL!
take care buddy.

kev,
Me and my fellah work in the theatres so it's where we spend a lot of time and there is so much good stuff and it is all different. Like music - rap to rock to country. Some things are a bit arty but some stuff speaks to you. If you're north of the border go and see Blackwatch - about the soldiers as i'm sure you've figured.
k
Hey Jaz, i'm into finding out things about soldiers in war, not in a morbid way, but just how normal men cope and deal with it when the sh*t hits the an....take my hat off to them all. I would be really interested in going to see that. Do you know what theatres it is shown at?
Diff, i'm going to look that up, I know vaguely of 'Canterbury Tales' but not much else. Cheers Ladies, Kev

You can carry the biggest dictionary in the world but some modern writings even need to be deciphered never mind the old classaics , and this isn't always a fault.. And even if Shakepeare is so old it is like a "foreign" language, a bit of foreign language education isn't bad. Especially one that has had such an impact on our own language
Glad you enjoyed the play- it would be a real shame if the ability to decipher the linguistic differences of the period ever become to much of a "hassle " for todays youth to deal with & enjoy -
Methinketh- you done good

I learned something :o)
I loved your summary of the story of Romeo and Juliet!!! You're right, the theatre is a magical place...it might not sound like your thing but I recommend some really good contemporary dance! Or a good musical...I'm about to take my new fella to see Les MIserables...it wrenches the heart outta me!
And just for the record...I reckon they all feel out of place if they're honest...you're a real person, they're just fakes :o)
