Met with a wonderful doc last night. He prescribed me Sub 4 mg, 1 1/2 pills per day. He told me to put 1/2 pill under my tongue and if I felt okay, to take th other 4 mg two hours later. Is 6 mg the normal starting dose? He have me no indication of how long I would be on it (he says some people as short as 3 days, some a few weeks). I go back to see him in 2 weeks. He said I have to stop taking the opiates before I start and have them out of my system for at least 24 hrs (longer the better he said). I'm very scared. I took the vicodin today because I was concerned about any side effects of sub while at work. So my plan is to wait until Weds night to stop taking vicodin and start taking sub on Friday night, when I am home for the weekend. Does this sound like a good plan?
He also prescribed me seroquel for sleep (but when Iook up seroquel in the PDR it's an anti-psychotic?! and not at all referenced for sleep.
He also diagnosed me with bipolar and prescribed me with Lamactil....does anyone have any experience with this medication?
I am very excited about the sub and getting off opiates for good. I'm also very scared to get rid of my vicodin - mostly because I know exactly what to expect and how I feel when I take this med.
Please - anyone respond with any thoughts or advice. I'm anxious over this.

Well I think you have a great plan. When my ex- husband started sub about 4 weeks or so ago he took 8 mgs. It was too much and he threw up. The next day he took 6 mgs and stayed there for a week and then dropped to 4mgs. He stayed there for a week and went to 2 mgs. He said he didn't notice a drop at all. His DOC was vicodin also. You may not need anything for sleep. He did tell me the first few days he didn't sleep all that good but after that he was sleeping like a baby. So you may want to wait and see if you'll need anything for sleep at all. As far as the withdrawls go he waited 24 hours and he said the withdrawls stopped instantly after taking the sub.

Hey First good luck to you.I know when I started the sub it was an awesome thing for me.Its been the first time in over 3 years that I havent used my DOC.I waited 25 hrs before I started.Everyone is different.I capped off at 8mg but after awhile that wasnt holding me so I leveled off at 16mg a day.Its not a cure all but Ill tell ya it is a definate help in getting back on track.I hope all goes well.I remember being scared to start too but now Im so thankful I did
hello,kl.I too start sub. tomm. morning .Well was going to say we would be started the same day.I have taken 5 peracets today i got to be at my sub. doctor at 10am with only 18 hours of w/ds.I hope its enough time.I think its a good plan you have waiting for friday being you have to work.may i ask you a few things? how many vic. were you takeing?also,how much did your scipt for sub. cost you and how many did you get in your scipt.Im just worried i would be able to afford it .All the sub. doctor here say they cant send the sub. home without mornting you to see if you dont have promblems when you first start.Thats why i go to his office to get started then go home with my sub. and be able to tell what i need to be on. The doc gave me a script for 4 mg sub, (21 pills - I think - I don't have it with me - but just enough to get me through until I go back to see him in 2 weeks). He wrote me a script but did not make me take any sub in his office as I had already taken 15-20 vics that day. The pills were covered by my insurance (Cigna) and were only $10.00. The doctor visit was $300 for the first visit and $150 for each visit after, for as long as he is prescribing Sub. (He also is prescribing me antidepressants, so once I'm off the Sub and just going for antidepressant medication check, my copayment will only be $15 per visit)
I took my last few vics today and I am going to start the sub tomorrow evening instead of waiting until the weekend.

Due to rear-ender three years ago which caused me a lot of pain, in my back, my head and muscle spasms. My doctor put me on ambien for sleep, pain pills, and muscle relaxers to keep the spasms down. I have gotten better and still need a pain pill at times, but I think I'm addicted to the ambien and the muscle relaxer. I'm tried taking myself off it, but every time I do, I just stay awake all night and the next day. I might doze for about 15 minutes in 24 hours. How can I get myself off these medications without going to a doctor. My family doctor has saved my life twice and I sure don't him to get into trouble. KL...you will be okay. I felt normal on the sub. Some days it made me sleepy, but that was the only bad side effect. Try to stay with the six mg..the dr gave me 10 mgs at once the second day, and that was waaay too much at once. Twice a day dosing works for me; but she prescribed it to be taken all at once, in the am.

I am not a Doctor. I do have experiance with Sub and Sub detox , along with reading many other peoples testimonies. Which I encourage you to do as well.
This is only my opinion:
***Most Doctors recommend 24 hours off narcotics before you take the Sub. I went approx 19 hours and was fine. Many people go 12 hours and are still ok.
BUT you have been taking alot of pills and you are doing it at home. Therefore I would go as close as possible to the 24 hour mark.
** I would start with 2 mg and let that settle in for an hour. Then I would take another 2 mill. You should notice relief. Take the next 2 mill a few hours later.
IF YOU can , make due with a starting dose total of 6 mill , you will have a decent quick detox. ((If you have to , you can go to 8 mill for the first 3 days but then drop back to 6 mill after 3 days ))
** Assuming you can tolerate 6 mill starting dose. Take 6 mill for 4 days, then 4 mill for 4 days ,, 2 mill for 4 days , 1 mill for 4 days, Then get off of Sub. You should not experience too bad withdraws from the Sub. (( it is better to divide up your total dose in half and take each half 8 to 12 hours apart for that day.))
** This is just the schedule I would do if I had to do it over again. I think your Doctor gave pretty good advice .Unlike some others . I am surprised that he is letting you start your Sub at home ( because some people dont wait until they are sick to start Sub). You shouldnt have a problem if you go close to 24 hours .
** The anti depressants are a good idea. I started to take lexapro and welbutrin. I find it has helped me emotionally. I dont get any sexual side effect from those particular medicines unlike paxil, zoloft ect. But everybody is different and a good doctor will experiment with you to see what works best for you.
** The hardest part for you, because it sounds like you have a doctor who knows what he is doing and is doing the shorter detox , will be to go the initial 20 to 24 hours. You will feel relief from Sub and will have a clearer head . It is really is weird to feel sober after abusing narcotics for years. Sub is very addicting but you are doing it the best way to avoid having dependance problems down the road.
