This past week i watched the Sharon Osborne show for the first time... at the end of it she made the statement, "my life, as you all know, is an open book. So if you're anything like me, or if you just want to share your story on my show, call us."
Some of you may have read in other posts that I have lost my boyfriend/best friend to an over dose. A short-lived addiction (6 months) that ended in the worst possible way. His story had inspired me to do a project type thing for my school (kind of like an assembly, on drug addiction - focusing mostly on heroin and cocaine). While im in the process of researching different meds, treatments, reasons why, etc. pertaining to the topic I find myself contemplating if my act isnt too selfish. I dont think it is but I hate having to put people through listening to the same thing. I want to make it interesting and have it touch people... not expecting miracles or anything but.., I think you get it.
... When I heard Sharon make the "open book" statement, I thought, "crap, mine pretty much is too." And then I thought about my precious RCD and his story.
Well, here's my "should I" statement: I am wondering if it wouldnt be silly of me to go on the show and tell his story. "Should I go on national television and tell RCD's story or should I just keep it on the lower scale and keep to my project (going on the show doesnt mean not doing the project. It just means more people will hear it).
I would really like your advice, much love

Hi ilmorcd,
I don't know if you've heard about the inspiration behind this web site (Addiction Recovery Guide), but apparently it was started by a mother who lost her son due to a cocaine-related death. Rather than keep his tragic story to herself, she put her energy into sharing her son's life with the world JacobWaletzky.com and building this site to help others who suffer from the same fundamental problem...(drug) addiction. A great read I found on this site that may be of help as you plan your school assembly is Addiction is a Brain Disease
As to your question, my advice is if you want to tell his story to the world, that you make sure you're doing so for the right reasons, ie. to help others who may be facing similar situations, rather than to gain personal exposure on national television. Of course calling in to the show doesn't necessarily mean you'll be selected...but if you do decide to try and are chosen, let us know when it's airing:)
Best of Luck

Go for it.
Do not be silent.
That won't prevent this from happening to someone else, which is one of your goals, I take it?
and sharon osbourne knows what it's like to live with an addict, that's for sure so I'm sure she'd be more than welcome to the idea.
