Sleepin A Problem

Hi to all,

a question, does the sleeping ever get better? i sure do not sleep more than a couple hours at a time, then I am wide awake. My body is tired and wants to sleep but I just toss and turn. Last night I took a tylenol pm, I slept a little but oh they make you feel awful in the morning. Any suggestions? I heard that the vitamin meltonin helps you sleep. Anyone ever try it? I am used to sleeping all day with the pills, but I know that is definately not good. Guess I really do not need that much sleep.

On a different note, I am in Maryland, close to Washington DC, so far no snow, it is fairly warm right now. I sure dont like the snow, only because I worked at a ski resort for many many years, and was sooooo busy 7 days a week. It got old. I live right in the area where the snipers were shooting people, think that wasn't a nightmare, I would not even stop for gas.....That was real scarey.

Hope everyone is doing fine, I am going to try those B-12 hopefully they will give me some energy too.

Hi bdwife. Not sleeping stinks doesn't.When you sleep it gives your body the well needed rest.Have you tried unisom?I found that they don't make you as groggy the next morning. You may be able to find something healthy and natural at a health food store.....mollyjean
Hi BDwife....melatonin does help with sleep. There is now available a form that you dissolve under the tongue rather than a pill you swallow. Check at the drugstore or with the pharmacist and you can find out more. hope this helps..xo
Well when I really want to sleep good I have found that a 25mg Benadryl works great! If you take 50mg of benadryl I always have a hang-over effect the next morning. Also Mortin 800mg and Comtrex Cold and flu night time pills and warm bathes.. Just a few suggestions,Rae
Thanks for all the suggestions, I will try them all and see which works the best.

you are all wonderful.

Bd- I'd go with Benadryl- thats what they give you in rehab/detox to help you sleep.
Bdwife, eventually sleep will come on its own, and it feels soo good, but those are good suggestions until it does.
sleeping is a problem, or the lack there of, that is. i have tried the melatonin and it did make me sleepy, although it made my legs ache like mad. i wonder did anybody else experience this. i asked the guy at GNC did he ever hear of it making anyone's leg ache and he said no, so i wonder am i the only one who has had this problem
thanks

Benadryl worked for me.
I tried a sleeping pill, but it did the opposite it kept me awake!
Besides I think that sleeping pills can become addicting.
I would take a long hot bath to help your body relax, drink some
warm chamomile tea, take the benadryl. Go to bed and hopefully you'll drift to la la land
and get some Z Z Z Z 's

Hope that works for Hun :-)
Benadryl makes me antsy very nervious so be careful things react differently on people. trazadone is not bad for sleep but you know what Ive been using latly and it workd pretty good is liquid kava kava tastes like cow dung but down it fast and drink something afterwards worth a try Ray
hello, my name is Mitzy & i posted a while ago about the same problem, i HATE IT!! going to sleep was anightmeare for me atleast, i still have trouble sleeping, and my other half sleeps like a rock, must be nice...

yes it does get better in time, and be careful because that pm stuff can be addicting as well, it sucks i know but i just wanted u to know, maybe some sleepy tea?, someone suggested that to me, warm bath right before bedtime, read a book, fall asleep watching tv, i hope this helps and it gets better for you, take care Mitzy, fellow addict:)...
Can you get to a sauna? Or how about some exersize ( I know you don't feel like it....) and then a hot shower? A counselor taught me that...

Dramamine works relatively well for me -- also Melatonin and Valerian root. I try to stay away from the cold and flu medicines (except Triaminic) because many have pseudophedrine in them, and that's a stimulant....which, in a pinch, I'll abuse as well. M.
hey bdwife -

the sleep will come. maybe not in the time span that we want it to, but it will come. i would suspect your body is going through some incredible physical changes right now; now that we are not poisoning ourself with the toxins that we once abused. the fact of the matter is time takes time and you will sleep again. please know this. what a great opportunity it would be for you to log on at times you are unable to sleep and read some different recovery boards. there is so much support and people who have walked this path before you, all over the world wide web. so take advantage of the sleepless hours and learn all you can about addiction!

off topic - i was rather taken back to a horrible time, by your statement of the snipers. i live in richmond, virginia and when the two were found making a phone call from pay phone 1/2 mile from where i live, it hit a little too close to home. i remember driving home from work that evening with the likes of satellite dishes from CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, FOX...i can't tell you how many people were covering that story. kind of got my attention! :o and i understand what you say about the fear of purchasing gas. one of the victims of that incident that was shot coming out of a restaurant (10 miles north of here), was med-flighted to a large teaching hospital here in richmond. thank God he made it, and the news hounds were everywhere.

so i guess you are up there where officer moose is? or is that was? i heard he was going to write a book over these events and would be suspended from the police force if he did. did that ever happen or do you know?

i have a good friend who was appointed lead counsel on the defense team for the kid of that disasterous duo. whew! talk about a trial. so many people were affected and lost so much during that time. i'm grateful it is over.

write soon badwife - the sleep will come.

Benadryl worked for me too, I did not have a problem going to sleep. I just could not stay asleep or go back to sleep if I woke up early. The Benadryl helped.
Benadryl gives me panic attacks... it makes me really nervous and anxious and makes my body 'jump'

Be careful with the Tylenol PM if you aren't off the pain pills because you could be doubling up on your dose of acetaminophen if you aren't careful.

A doctor friend of mine told me that hot baths, warm milk, exercise early evening, eating a big meal close to bed time, and reading are all good for helping you fall asleep, but none of those worked for me. I had my doctor prescribe something & that helped sooooo much, but sleep will come back naturally if you give it time.

Be careful w/the kava kava, too, b/c herbs can also be harmful on the liver and can interact w/other prescriptions that you take... they aren't regulated by the FDA like other drugs!
