Socially Stunted From Addiction?

I recently heard that one of the consequences of addiction is that you social behavior is permanently stunted. This came as a shock to me and ever since I have wondered what that really means, or even if it is true or not. I also heard that addiction stunts ones facial growth, giving the person an appearance that stands out among other people. I dont think this is true, but I need some feedback on it. Does addiction stunt your social growth? and Does it Stunt ones facial growth?
I have been in recovery in aa for eighteen years and yes it does stunt your growth. You are emotionally only the age that you picked up. Your coping mechanisms are also warped and you find you are reacting to life instead of stopping to ponder what is the best move forward. We seem to be so compulsive that we pick the first thing that comes to us which is what AA calls the alcoholic thinking. Rational emotive therapy and support groups show you how to slow down your brain long enough to make good choices .. rational decisions. The facial thing??? I have only seen the ravishes of alcohol on the faces of us. Mostly in women, but men to. Alcohol is not a beauty product for sure. We look older than we are, with the immaturity of that kid that started drinking at 15. They say we are people with hugh egos with low self esteem what a combo. Hope this helped.
