I am now clean for 7months and I am 5months pregnant. I am cleaning up my past and trying to live the right way. My question is how can I get my own place when you go to fill out the paperwork and they ask if you have a record.
I have one drug charge on my record and if I stay clean for a year it will be erased, yet it does not help me now when I am trying to get out of a bad relationship and give my child a great life. Money isn't the issue, it is my past.
Help?!
Was your drug charge a misdemeanor or a felony charge? Misdemeanors are no big deal and the questions usually refer specifically to felonies. If it was a felony you could do a pre-emptive strike and just come right out with it at the beginning and sincerely explain that you were in a bad place in youlr life, but that it is over and you have moved on. I'm sure someone who has had this experience will come along to help you, but this General board isn't terribly active...you may want to post on your DOC board to see others' feedback.
