Starting The Methadone Program...

Greetings, folks...
It seems like I keep relasping and I even go to a counselor and AA/NA. All of these don't help, because I go awhile and then boom I relapse again. Therefore, I am going into the methadone program here. I can't take subutex and other opiod blockers, because I have no insurance.

Deirdre
Deidre,

You need methadone like a hole in the head. Seriously you need intense therapy maybe? Methadone-- NO!!

You think you have a monkey on your back now? Get ready for a GORILLA!!

You said " I keep relapsing. I am going on methadone. That is like saying I keep relapsing I am going on herion. That is ridiculous. Methadone is a scheduled ll narcotic. It isn't going to save your life. What are you taking Vicodin, Percocet?? Smoking pot?? What?

The detox from methadone is BRUTAL. It is HELL ON EARTH. It will be as close to HELL as you will get. Trust me. Been there, done it.

If I thought for one second that you would benefit from methadone I would say GO FOR IT. I know many people will read your 1st post and say ' OH DIEDRE I think that's great but I am not here to sugar coat anything.

I don't think that is the best option for you. Just my opinion from knwoing you a long time on this board!! I know a lot of your history and you've had some clean time. You can do it. You need a plan in a different direction. Get a sponser that will kick your a**. That is my honest opinion but do what you like.

Rae
Rae...
I did have a kick-a** sponsor, but nonetheless I would still relapse. I guess I am obsessive compulsive. Yes, I can get off of oxycodone and oxycoctin for awhile, but than a few weeks later I relapse. I am doing positive things in my life, right now, such as working on a book, I am almost finished, need to find a publisher. I appreciate your advice. Do you have a history with methadone use?

Love,
Deirdre
Rae...
What will I use for pain managment. I have scoliosis, permanent neck injury, migraines, acid-reflux, and Chron's disease.

Deirdre
Welllll...
I have to go for now. I appreciated anyone who responded. Thanks Rae for your advice. Check in later. For god's sakes, it's on five thirty in the morning here.

Lots of love to everyone,
Deirdre
Deidre,

If you went from Oxy to Methadone you would be going from one scheduled ll narcotic to another. What is the point? If your in severe pain that is one thing, do what you have to. I don't want anyone to suffer.

I was on methadone from Jan 2000- Aug 2002. It was brutal to get off of. The withdrawl lasted so long, I thought I would DIE. I am not kidding. It was Extremely Painful.

Are you planning to stay on methadone forever? Or short term? You will be going to a PM doctor? Or a clinic?

Are you getting your oxy's off the street now? Or do you have a doctor? If you have a doctor, discuss your options with him. I just hate to see you get yourself in a bad situation.

My ex had Crohn's Disease. We were together for 8-10 years. He had 2 surgeries and it still came back. He was on methadone the same time I was. He still has Crohn's but Lomotil 2.5 mgs helps him a lot. There are other ways to treat crohn's.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Happy Holiday's.

Rae
Rae...
I am getting oxy's off the street. I cannot afford a doctor, right now. I will look into other options. Again thanks for you advice. Happy holidays to you.

Love,
Deirdre
Oxy's off the street can be expensive. To bad you can't afford Suboxone. I think that would be a better short term choice than methadone.

Are you planning on staying on methadone for life? Or just short term? Also were you planning on going to a clinic for your methadone or PM?

Rae
YOU GUYS LISTEN TO RAE ABOUT METHADONE ......she knows what she is talking about.

Alien-Don't give up.Find a sponsor who will spend some more time with you and do what it takes. You may have to plant yourself in a meeting several times a day until you get to a place where you are comfortable.
Relapses are not accidental.Every time you relapse, if you don't process it and start getting to some hard truths about what or what not you're doing to prevent them, they will keep happening.Make yourself more accountable.I don't know your history but I've been there.
Maybe you need IOP.They actually make you do workshops on relapse.I learned a lot in it.It's about 6 weeks.

If you start Methadone, the hell will just be beginning.
Please reconsider and get back in there and fight.
Deidra,

Rae knows what she is talking about as I do also.....PLEASE find another route, I to have chronic pain......BUT, its not as bad as I really thought it was, sure I have a few flare ups, and when I do I go in for a shot.
You say you can't afford a dr?? yet your buying off the street. OMG woman thats so azz backwards thinking....there are sliding scale places, to me thats just an excuse....
You don't need anyone telling oyu its the best thing for you to try, ( that being the methadone) you really wish you will have died and gone to hell if or when you decide to go off it...its been a little over a year for me since my last methadone pill......every once in awhile I still feel it in my bones .......
you will be one F'd up person..

This is just MOI.........

Man I pray hard for you to really dig deep before you go that route!! It can be done w/o..........YOU HAVE TO WANT IT BAD ENOUGH!!! DO YOU?????????

Krazi/Traci
Deirdre About the only drug i was not on was methadone.

besides 3 days as a weaning tool. The stories about methadone are awful. I know many people and they all say what Rae has posted.

Ask the heroin board.

You say you cant get on sub? Have you looked into state programs. Many charities have been working on getting non insured patients the sub among other meds.

Have you know family who can help you? Methadone is not the answer.

I pray you reconsider.
Jeff
Deirdre,

You don't need insurance to take suboxone. There are a whole lot of programs available that are no or low cost.

Start making some phone calls. Call your local hospital and ask what is available. On this board go to "treatment options" and contact them.

There is no need for money or insurance to stand in your way. It's well understood that a sad part of this disease is loosing jobs and money.

Your doing the right thing by looking into options like methadone. Keep banging on doors, get all the information you can before you make a decision.

I contacted this agency when I started. It's the National Council on Alcholism and Drugs. Give them a call.

Catherine
rae, hoe did you get off meth? inpatient, sub????home alone???

I almost went on meth this past may, realized that i was going that route cause i thought i could still get high, but it would seem ok to family and friends cause it would LOOK like i was trying. Sub isn't expensive for me $100 a month, was less then $40 for an 80 oxy (5-8 a day) however last time i was on sub it was $500 a month-still cheaper then street drugs. I think it keeps getting cheaper cause it is getting more popular
Greetings, folks...
Well, I kicked off oxy, two days ago; however, I started consuming vast quantities of alcohol, which had been my gateway drug. It was more hellish getting off alcohol than any other drug combined. I don't like meetings because they don't encourage talking about the mental issues aspect. I hate being just labeled a drug addict and alcoholic. I am more than that. I am going to go through a program called Recovery, which deal both with addiction and mental illness. I think I started drinking, because I don't get to spend the holidays with my only child. I am extremely sad about it and I know alcohol isn't the answer. I am going to try the suboxone route (short-term) for pain issues. Thanks guys, I love you guys. Merry Christmas.

Love,
Deirdre
Methadone is a God aweful drug. I would certainly steer away from that one. If you are not addicted to benzos why not just go cold turkey. It can be done. Its terrible but doable. I went ct off of 20 norcos a day. Im not 6 plus weeks clean!

Merry Christmas
Deirdre, You still online? Shantel
Deirdre, E-mail me if you get a chance. If you don't still have my e-mail it's smittyx03@aol.com. I am just hanging out with my family tonight so I'll be on and off. Hang in there. Shantel
Yep, that is the most ridiculous thing ever.

I would rather see you keep relasping then signing up for hell.

You should find a way to get sub. If you can afford to buy oxy, you can afford sub.

I think that is NOT THE ANSWER FOR YOU.

Listen to rae and tacey.
She posted she was gonna try sub. in her last post. Shantel
Deirdre you know there is nothing but depression in any bottle.

I understand and relate to your comment about meetings. I have been to a ton of meetings many different kinds.

Deirdre check out your 800 # for AA and find meetings for addicts who are have been told they are dual diagnosis--

There was a meeting I used to go to where we all were cross addicted and all on A/D anti anxiety etc.

The meetings were all open forum open topics could talk about anything. No judging no AA members telling me I am not clean cause I took certain meds for pain and my mental issues. I am nuts.

Thank god I finally have found my way.

Deirdre you can find your way as well. Just never give up.

Please change your name from alien to Deirdre. its such a pretty name.

Your not an alien. Your a smart woman fighting for her life. Keep fighting.

Get on the suboxone. Find someone who you can talk to F2F--have an open mind about meetings.

Deirdre call your local hospitals they tend to have this dual diagnosis meetings.

Maybe someone out there has been to a dual diagnosis meeting?

Deirdre Feel good

Happy holiday--Jeff
