Student Questions

I do not mean to intrude in anyway. I am aware that this is a website for people who are struggling, have struggled or know someone that is struggling with alcoholism. I am doing a research paper for class on wether alcoholism should be considered a disease or not. Again i do not mean to offend anyone but i wanted a first person point of view. Everywhere i have looked seems to be just what other people think and not what someone who has actually struggled with it thinks. I just wanted to know what you think on this debate about alcoholism being a disease or not and why you feel that way. Again i do not mean to offend anyone and i just want to know how you feel about this topic.
The term "disease" is posed by the medical community.
I believe early AAs called it a malady.

It doesn't make much difference to me because the treatment is the same...
but I think that branding Alcoholism with a "name" opens doors to money/control by folks.

There is a thread in general/miscellaneous about "disease".

Good luck
