Suboxen?

I had never heard of suboxen before finding this board. I live in WV and the only thing I've heard of is methadone. I was on methadone for 2 years before weaning off of it. The clinic does not try very hard to get people to wean off of methadone. In fact, i'm not sure if they try at all. I just happened to have a very good counselor who was very supportive and kind. Anyway, what is the difference between methadone and suboxen? And I also want to say hello as this is my first post here.
Michelle32,
Hi and welcome to the board! I was on methadone for 2 years back in 2002. It was very hard to get off and I had a brutal detox. So are you totally clean now or are you still on methadone? As far as the suboxone goes I know you have to be down to at least 30 mgs of methadone before starting the sub. Then you have to stop the meth for 2-3 days before starting the sub. I perosnally have never been on sub but I can tell you many people think it is a better drug than meth for drug addiction. Do you have any sub doctor's in your area you can call and talk to about it? Good morning gang...

I don't know really anything about Sub. but was also on methadone for a year and half....I took herbs to help me detox, which was hell but oh so worth it now...i just wonder if taking the sub is just replacing one for another....if you have the time to take about 2 weeks to just rest and take bathes, drink lots of fluids I'd do that....

just remember you WILL get thru it......be kind to yourself thru the detox..
Actually, i've been off of methadone since the first week of September. I was down to 11 mg. and decided to totally stop at that point. They try to bring you down about 2 or 3mg. a week. I had been up to 90mg., and it took me a year to get down to 11. One thing I can say for sure to anyone who is on methadone and goes to a clinic to get it. If you have to stand in line and wait like I did, do not listen to what other people around you are talking about. I would hear horrible things like people who were using a lot of other stuff while on methadone. The few times I did talk to anyone, they would tell me that it's impossible to get off of methadone. It's not impossible. I'm living proof. It got to the point where I would take my ipod with me and listen to music while in line. I don't really feel like I am the best person in the world to be giving advice, but like I said if anyone reading this is on methadone and is feeling discouraged about getting off of it, it can be done. Don't listen to negative people trying to make you feel bad because they do. Just pray for them.
Boy oh boy do I agree................

I think my worst enemy was my doctor.....she told me I would be on it the rest of my life. When I told them I was going off of it she told me I was krazi......I have chronic pain...but knew I wanted my life back.dang that stuff recks havic big time..

I can now take aleve when the pain sets in, actually a few weeks back I went in for a toradol shot.......but yes we are living proof you can go off of it....I stopped taking it when I was on 5mg a day.......I hated the detox, but am so much happier now...

Actually when I hear people talk about it, I cringe and let them know my experience...and hopefully they do better research then I did....I just took my doctors advice.......next time I will listen to myself first

Good job....

Sub for me worked out very well. Its a good drug if you have a good doctor prescribing it. You need therapy meetings --building up a support network to go along with the meds.

good Luck--Jeff
