Hi all, I just found this web site and am looking for some info on rather to take suboxone or not for my addiction to percocet. I had a back injury over a year ago and was given it for the pain.. I was in intense pain. I have read the pro and cons here and looked up what it is all about... The thing is Iam in recovery with A.A. four years sober , so I have a support group to deal with relapse possibilites. I have a professional job and can't believe I fell for this addiction normally when I go see a Doc, I let them know Iam in recovery and cant take any painkillers etc. that would cause me a problem... I have talked with my sponser about all of this. And not kept anything from my support people . I don't want my work to find out that in a way I have relapsed.
I have an appointment next week to see about getting on sub. ,my hopes are with it easing my cravings , withdrawls and working my N.A. and A.A. program I can get through this without losing my job... I was getting to where I could not even work without the cravings coming and me leaving to find a fix...I have a couple weeks off. Just trying to find the most effective way to get off the percocet and I will take loratab if I can't find percocets.. So, My question Is due you think Suboxone is going to give me the best chance in gettting off these dang opiates?
Dear Champ if you look through this site at different post that issue has been talked about ALOT I'm sure you can find the info your looking for.Good Luck.....mj
Champ suboxone is an opiate (contains buprenorphine and naloxone) but it can be used to detox from other short acting opiates and you can later come off the suboxone if you wish to be drug free. It also has some opiate blocking characteristics.
If you have a chronic pain problem then the buprenorphine will help manage that pain and some addicts who have chronic severe pain stay on buprenorphine.
As for whether it is for you, only you can make that decision in conjunction with your Dr/drug and alcohol service.
Some people here are taking Suboxone and can give you their personal thoughts and experiences.
