Suggestions To Help Withdrawel Time Pass

I'm sure most of us who have cleaned up (or whatever you want to call it) remember the horror of withdrawels. Many people often post real good ideas for OTC stuff that helps, like the withdrawel list of meds or whatever it is called.

I think between (amoung) us we could also suggest some fairly mindless activities that we have used during withdrawels. Remember, even something that was able to help you focus on anything for 10 minutes or so , & kinda get your mind off it, was a definite blessing.

One of the main things I used to do (this was in Alabama) was driive <probably not to smart to drive in that condidtion, but I couldnt walk to well> to this little lake about 2 miles from my house.

There were all kinds of turtles there. I used to just kind of stare at them, try to think of peacefull things, smoke, and let my mind go blank.

I;ll bet others got a lot of stuff, more effective then what i did.
WALK, WALK, WALK.

Only bad part is I had to avoid people along the way that knew me....they expected the smiling, happy me.......and they'd start telling me their problems.
I thought I would scream "SHUT UP I'M A HEROIN ADDICT IN WITHDRAWL YA FOOL"........alas that ain't my style though.

Dig that I live in Philly.......you saw turtles? I'd walk miles to the river, and seen rats......LOL......but I was clean.

Whitening sneakers too.....I'd get cleanser and scrub them.....take out the laces and replace with new ones or scrub the oled ones, and hit them babies up with that old polish that has the nurse on the front of the bottle....I did everyone in the houses sneakers.

Whatever works.
This is actually a good topic. I wish I had some good imput for others but I don't remember much about the first month. What helped me was picking out one small task everyday and I do mean small that needed to be done and try to complete it. I remember when I first starting doing this I would start it with good intentions but I would find I couldn't stay focused long enough to finish it. This went on for awhile but each day I was determined to focus just a minute longer than the day before. It felt good knowing each day I was accomplishing a little bit more. My husband would also suggest at night we take a walk. I didn't want to and didn't go to far but it made me feel so much better. Also, I did get out for counseling which helped alot. Shantel
Shantell, that is great advice. Each day do, or try to do, something. What a feeling of accomplishment it is when you finally can do it- u know u are making progress.

In Alabama i lived in a 2 story apt. I knew i was getting somewhere when i made it all the way to the second floor.

I guess those Philadelphia river rats are not much to meditate on. But u did have Rocky.LOL. Im from Buffalo originally. One of the reasons i moved was a geoographic cure-----some say it does not work, but it helped.
Browndog, I went c/t off Oxys in Jan 2006 after 5 year years of using. To this day I still give myself a pat on the back when I accomplish something as small as paying a bill. It is not always easy. Some days I just want to say screw this but I know where I have been and know how far I have come and I am never going back to that place. Never. Shantel
Browndog,

Thanks for this post topic

The thing that helped me pass the time during (especially first 1-3 days) was going to NA/AA meetings. Got me out of my head.
