*Everyone* knows about AA & NA... the 12-step programs and all of that. I'm curious though, about groups that are based more on supporting one another and not any specific "12-step" plan. Nothing against the plan, it does seem to work for a whole lot of people. I just don't think it can work for me because of my past, that is probably what led to my addictive behaviors, that got me where I am today, but that would be a whole other thread. I just need somewhere I can talk, vent, and lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on in return, without being pushed into a set "system" if anyone understands what I'm getting at.
Hi,
I think there is a big misconception of the 12 step program other wise known as AA or NA , etc. It is a support system for individuals. It is suggested that we take the steps that are offered but not a rule. One can still receive support from another alcoholic-addict without taking the steps, although it is not advised to not take the steps..It is not something that people get pushed into or told they have to do in order to recover. It is just suggested as a better way of living and letting go of the past and forgiving yourself.
Hope this helps alittle.

I agree for the past 8 months i have said to hell with A.A/N.A i dont need them but the bottom line is when the chips are down and your a hurting unit for whatever reason the people in these groups understand you better than the "Normal" people I found this out the hard way and i hope i never forget it
I've been a member of NA since 1996, and havn't had to use since that time. I really don't think I would have made it that long without them.
I have real friends there that really care about me, and are there for me when I need them.
