Switching From M-done To Suboxone ?

little update: Things have been going ok with me. I had a clean & sober birthday 12-13 :) I was a brides-maid at my friends weding 12-12. I have not used anything in aprox a month.
Now to the ? I started a 2mg a week detox top dose was 89mg m-done. I was down to 29mg of m-done relasped then went up 7mg & got stable. Stayed at 36mg for about a month. I talked to the clinic Dr. recently. He the "Dr." thinks I should consider switching to Suboxone. He said I need to get to 30mg, I'm at 32mg right now. By next week I'll be at 30mg. I'll take a week of 30mg then go A whole 72hrs with NOTHING at all!!!!!!!!!!, after 72hrs go to clinic and get Suboxone. I have had a terrible time trying to detox from the methadone. Off & on all year I've been going down & up + stoping my detox. The doctor thinks that I willl handle a Suboxone detox better then a m-done detox. Once I get stable on a dose of Suboxone , i'll then do a 1mg detox from the Suboxone. The Dr. said in general people do detox much better from Suboxone. I'm pretty worried about the 72hrs with nothing. The Dr said," I must be in total withdraw to do the switch." He was real clear not to TAKE ANYTHING during the 72 hrs. Anyone with advice on this? Anyone with personal experience?. I'll post this on the Suboxone board also. I can decide not to switch but, the Dr thinks it is what I should do. I just do not know about the 72 hrs thing. I have to go to work during this, I think that might SUCK a lot waiting to go in withdraws.
Hey Zero,
Right up front I don't know alot about suboxone, but what I DO know you should be going all the way down to maybe 5mgs,then drop to 1mg or 2mg and then go the 72 hours. The first day missing 30 mgs will be more in your head I think, but the 2nd and 3rd day may be hard. Then,if you can't stop the craving after you've jumped off what will you do?? Also, are you AWARE that suboxone may help you with your addiction but it does NOTHING for the craving??
Methadone not only helps you not use but it keeps the opiate cravings away so you have no urge to use.
How long have you been on methadone and testing absolutely clean for opiate drugs? And what is your reason for wanting to switch to suboxone??
Go back to Oct and Nov 2012 and reread your posts. I hope you know what you're doing. I'd hate to see you throw everything you've worked so hard for. Again....what's the rush??

Granny
TY Granny for the concern and input :) I'm getting closer to trying to switch. I brought up my concerns with the clinic Dr. He is a very pro methadone doctor. Dr.Bill "E.I.T.C. East Indiana Treatment Center" he is a well respected doctor. He is very educated in addiction treatment. He said you CAN go lower then 30mg but, 30mg is a very common mg to switch at. He said you do NOT want to switch higher then 30mg. He said you can wait just 2 days but, you risk the Suboxone kicking you into a real awful withdraw. He said that they have found 3 days to be more acceptable. He said the very most important thing is you have to be in active withdraws. It's VERY rare but, some people need to wait longer then 3 days. He said if i'm not in withdraws at 3 days to wait till 4 days. He thinks by 3 days i'll be more then ready. I ask what happens if I just can't do 3 days. He said you either can or can't. If you can't come into the clinic they will give me my regular m-done dose. He said we can try again at 15mg if I can't do the wait at 30mg. He said it will not be the most easy thing to do but, it is possible to do. I did not tell the Dr about my most recent laspe it was a one time thing. He the Dr thinks i've been nearly 3 years totally drug free except the m-done. I have been up/down stop re start my detox. I have had a hard time with the m-done detox. I have done 1-2mg a week 3mg every 2 weeks all kinds of combinations. He said that Suboxone is so MUCH easier to detox from because of that he feels it's a better option. I have had a hard time trying to detox from the done. ALSO I CAN get scripts for the Suboxone which will cut my cost by HALF and I won't have to be in a clinic to get Suboxone. So the cost will be lower the detox easier and no more clinic :) :). Besides the ONE LASPE I have been nearly 3 YEARS no drug use. NOT EVER had a + test at the clinic I get 2 weeks of take homes.
