As stated in our AA literature:
"Alcohol, now has become the rapacious creditor, bleeds us of all self-sufficiency and all will to resist its demands."
Alcohol, the "rapacious creditor", came knocking one last time at my Aunt Karen's door and she passed away this past Wednesday, March 5th at approximately 7:05 am (PST) as the result of her not being able to put down the bottle. She also had abused drugs, but we don't think so as of late...but who knows, and alcohol is just a drug in liquid form in my opinion. She was 56 years old and was like a sister to me, and my sister...my Grandma had a large part in raising us, so my Aunts are more like my sisters to us.
I wanted to post how grateful I am that I was blessed with the gift of desperation and that I have over four years of sobriety now, and have been given tools to cope with losses such as this without having to pick up a drink...my Higher Power is lifting me up through all of this...but for the Grace of God go I...not only did we resemble each other...I drank just like she did when I was active in my disease. So whether your 15 or 56 and your struggling with putting down the bottle, perhaps try an AA meeting, let folks know you are struggling, what have you got to lose, but perhaps your life if you don't get sober??? I can either choose to be a Drunk "out there" and die, or be a Drunk with sobriety in AA and a pretty decent life...today I choose life, sobriety and recovery. Take care.
Gidday Geri and give Rach a hug from NZ as well

VW...I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Thank you for reminding me again of what the future holds if I drink again...jails, institution, and death.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
Dear Geri,
I'm so saddened for the loss of your dear Aunt. This insideous disease of alcoholism has taken another precious life far to soon. There aren't enough words in my heart to express the sympathy I want to share with you and your family. May God give you and your family comfort during your times of mourning and grief. I will certainly have you all in my thoughts and prayers.
God Bless
Love, Chris xxx
