Anyone have any throat problems from chronic drinking?
Drinking alcohol is very bad for the esophagus (SP). It eats away the lining. Go see a doctor if the problem persists. I know a few men that have serious damage to their esohagus due to excessive drinking.
Hi there, I had swallowing problems...when you're liver starts to act up, it can affect your swallowing....that's what I was told and I also read it when I looked it up when I was scared to death that my drinking was going to kill me.
Esophageal hemmorahges and lesions occur with alcoholics. The hemmorahging can also cause one to bleed out and die.

Has anyone ever experienced severe itching from liver disease?
No...Only from stress...
Hmmm, LOL, you're sooooooooo funny ~ I sit here trying to convince myself that something is seriously wrong with me...and am still itchy!
Hi VW,
I have had a crook liver, due to the drinking, its slowly repairing itself,
I found that my eyesight was getting really bad, never itched though,
Only time I itched was the first 2 weeks of no alcohol, and man did I itch!!!
Hello Rachel, good to see you back,
Take care

Crikey Ginge, where the heck have you been! Anyway, I'm off to bed now...I think my sister is right, I've had a lot of things going on in my life and maybe I'm just internalizing the stress, 'cause I don't really feel stressed so maybe it came out that way...I never experienced itching when I was detoxing, but I had a "crook" liver ~ lol. My head will have me sick, then dead and buried...if i let it run away with me. I'll talk to you soon! Have a good day!

Hi ya Ginge, I loved, loved, loved "Walk the Line" ~ I totally cried at the end...it's amazing that June stuck with him through all of that...it's an incredible love story...I watched it twice! I'll look for the movie you suggested at my local DVD rental store; maybe tonight. Hope you are enjoying your time off! Glad you are feeling better too!
One of the biggest causes of throat cancer (after cigarette smoking) is heavy alcohol consumption. As an irritant, alcohol effects the mouth, throat, esophagus and stomach.
The horrible thing is that I had throat cancer. It didn't stop me from drinking. I am working on that problem, now.

Welcome to the Board AnniesRose, A guy that I know on the Program has throat cancer caused by cigarettes and alcohol, it's really hard for him... How are you doing today?
I hesitated to post here, because i haven't had many throat problems....but my tongue has been very swoellen and cracked open, (and even bleeding sometimes)!?!
P.S. VW...don't laugh;)....but i snore terribly, and that is probably the cause right? (passing out and leaving my mouth open)

Jayde, Between you and Zac, you guys just cause me to laugh out loud here...laughter is so good for the soul, I rarely ever laughed at the end of my drinking. I'm not sure about the swollen tongue thing, I kinda remember something similar happening to me...a long time ago...gosh we put our bodies thru so much...don't we? I had my sister look at my skin, she thinks it is definitely related to stress but I of course I think I'm dying ~ I'm such a hypochrondriac (trust God, trust God, trust God...)....
VW, it probably is stress related. I get hives and get all itchy if i'm under alot of stress, or get upset, i always have. Try taking Benadryl, it may help;)
Hi WW!
I have been two years cancer free, so far. Unfortunately, as soon as my throat opened up I began drinking again. It's worse now because I've added additional stress to the mixture.
All I can do is pray to my higher power that I can beat this. I'm only three days clean but the urge refuses to go away! In addition I am gaining weight rapidly and that is another stressor.
The problems I'm beginning to have are SERIOUS stomach pains that are cleared up with Zantac or Pepto. If this isn't enough to make me stop drinking I don't know what will short of the grave. :(

Wow, so sorry to hear about the health issues you've been and have gone thru...pretty scary stuff, but the your post described the insanity of the disease...we still will pick up a drink even if we know it's gonna gravely harm us.
I have the sensation of something stuck in my throat, but it's on and off. I have no pain but a 'sensation' when I think about it but I think that it's in my head?
I'm almost 36 and smoked for several years but quit when I was 24. I've drank on and off for years but the last few years I've been drinking like a sailor.
I went to my mom's house and had her look at it and after 5 kids and 45+ years of looking at tonsillitis, strep throat and the flu she sees nothing unusual other than an infected tonsil.
I looked up 'tonsillitis' on google images and saw a pair that looked identical to mine but it still freaks me out.

I know of the insanity as my world goes to hell around me. I have tried group therapy and AA but neither seem to be working for me. Sitting around listening to others talk about how they ruined themselves with alcohol does nothing for me at all.
The cravings don't feel like they're strong it's just that I give in quickly becaue I find that it makes pain go away. Husband is disgusted with me and I have no friends (this was a problem LONG before the heavy drinking) so it makes me feel like "why should I care?".
My mother slowly starved herself to death. I really believe that the destructive behavior I exhibit might be inherited.

Hi again, We have a bunch of meetings here in the area of SoCal where I live...and I have found some really good meetings with messages of recovery; once in awhile a drunk-a-log will be shared, but mostly I hear the solution. Maybe, there are additional meetings you could check out in your area till you find one that suits you. Best of luck.
