I posted this one the other forum but this one gets a lot more traffic and im anxious for replies. Im sorry if this isnt cool to do.
This is my post copy pasted:
Hey Everyone:
My sister-in-law just learned she was pregnant and then, like a ton of bricks, we realized she is RX'ed and takes 4 mils of Xanax a day.
She is cool, has 4 kids, head on, never plays with them. She just suffers so much with anxiety. Sad to watch.
Anyway, now we are freaking about this. I got off benzos with the Ashton Manual but I wasnt pregnant.
Has anyone found themselves in this situation? Its the holidays and she cant just drop off. What did your Drs do? I dont want to tell her of the hell this can and may be. I need to tell her something though. Im scared she will drop off not realizing the consequences.
Any replies would be so appreciated.
Again, about 6 weeks pregnant and been on Xanax 3 years (completely changed her life despite the fact it is such a nasty, awful drug). Dosage now, 4 mils a day.
Thank you so much!
dont know much about benzo withdrawal, except i do know that it has to be weaned off in a proprer fashion, otherwise a seizure could occur.
i have been on klonopin which is a benzo, same family as xanax, short term 0.5 mg 2x a day and the combination of klonopin at that small dose and suboxone which i take for opiate withdrawals was WAY TOO STRONG!!!! i have panic/anxiety disorder for which i used to take klonopin before suboxone only as needed, and i never felt so sedated on them before.
but this time....whoa! too sedated!!!!
my sub doctor put me on klonopin this thanksgiving for extreme anxiety i was suffering from, told him it was too sedating so he said to cut the dose in half for which i did, then a wonderful person on this forum brought to my attention that the short term plan ( 2mos since i am an addict) is surely setting myself up for a benzo addiction and she is so right! i have been clean from vicodin for 6 mos and since starting the klonopin, i could feel my old behaviors and patterns returning, da*n it! why would an addicitons doctor tell me do to this and say that i would not become addicted because of its short term duration.? i have caught it in the nick of time, but what if i had continued?? i hear benzo withdrawals are no fun.
so i gave the bottle the doctor had me refill to my son and it is hid somewhere only to be given to me if i ever get in that awful state of anxiety again. i am currently tapering off in a pattern like this per day: 1,1,1,1, 1/2,1/2,1/2,1/2,then 1/2 every other day until they are gone.
but in your friiends situation a baby is involved so i certainly would speak with a doctor about that and soon! good luck jewels
