Using Oxys To Get Off Meth

I have just started using oxycontin to wean off of methadone. I was on 40 mg. a day of meth(pill form) and I tapered down to 20 mg. a day. Now I have been on oxys for 5 days and no meth at all. I feel good, actually getting a buzz off the oxys, but more important, feel no ill effects from the lack of meth. I was wonderingif anyone else has ever tried to do this to get off of methadone without all the withdrawals, or has heard of anyone else in a similar situation? I know this might sound like a crazy approach I am taking. I really feel in my personal situation that this is the only option I have to try. I have a very long history of addiction and I am pressed for time to try to get clean. Any ideas on how long it will take for the meth to be out of my system? I want to start tapering off of the oxy before I get into a problem with it! I will post again soon to infrorm of the progress I am making (or not). Also, I can give more info if needed to help anyone that has ideas on how to help me be done with this bad situation. I also want to try to get private messages if it would help
First of all, so glad your here and that you want to get off of the merry-go-round and start a new life. I had to re-read your post three times to make sure I understood what you were saying.... Yea, the oxy will help withdraw from the meth, but now you're addicted to the oxy. All you did was trade out one for another. When do you plan on quitting the oxy? No matter when you do, you'll experience withdrawals.

If it were that easy, most of us here would have already done that. Most of here tried.

There is no easy way...it's all about hard work. Support and behavior changes. You can't do it with other drugs. Sorry.

If you want to know how to do it...let us know.

Sorry to say all you're doing is jumping out the pan and into the fire.. People use methadone to get off oxycontin.. So what are you going to use to get off the oxycontin? Percs?.. i dont know which doctor suggested this way of getting "sobre", but to me its akward..I think you should change your physicians because 9/10 doctors would question his logic..Unfortunately you were better off on the methadone. I'd hate to say that because methadone is bad, but i heard a lot more horror stories off of oxy's then methadone... You should consider getting a second opinion from another doctor..Well thanks for posting w/b..
Oxys are sooooo addictive. They will suck you in fast and the w/d from those were horrible for me. Maybe you should talk to your Dr. to form a different recovery plan.
Good luck,
Redd
Just to add my 2-cents: going from one addictive drug to another isn't going to cut it. As you get into sobriety, you'll learn that we addicts have to stay away from ALL mood-altering stuff. Alcohol, pain meds, pot, everything.
Best of luck and prayers to you!
Sorry to say, youre heading for disaster. Oxy's will not help at all. They are VERY addicting (take it from me) - please talk to a dr. How many mgs. of oxy are you on? Basically, you are just replacing one drug for another. I did use methadone to taper (less than a week) down off of percocets, then stopped - I know they are highly addictive and the w/ds are really bad, but I think they would be just as bad off of oxys. Please keep posting - you are doing the right thing by reaching out for help and you will find alot of good advice here. Good luck to you.

Love,
Marie
JF,
If I were you I would talk to your doctor about clonodine(Catapress patches) to help with the withdrawl. Swicthing from Methadone to oxy's isn't going to by pass the withdrawl for you. You are just switching from one highly addictive drug to another. I was physicaly dependant on methadone for 2 1/2 years about 2 years ago. It is a very bad and nasty withdrawl. It took a long time to feel like myself again. I did it but I'll never know how I survived it. So please consider finding a doctor that can help you or maybe suboxone would benefit you. If you need to talk let me know I can give you my e-mail. Rae (Rachel)
Rae ,I am not familiar with clonidine but if it is something that will help alleviate the w/d symptoms I am definately interested in learning more. I will look into it. I know what I am trying to do is crazy but I think oxy is the lesser of two evils.I have only read that the meth is alot worse to detox off of. I only know I have to try something. This is the best I could come up with. I do have to continue trying to work throughout this.I have only been on the meth for @ 4 months and I need to be off of it . Thanks JF
JF -
Clonidine is really a blood pressure medication, but is prescribed to aid with W/D symptoms, as well. Your blood pressure does go up when you are going through W/Ds. You really should talk to your dr. about it.

Marie
Marie,
Your a hard one to keep up with. I posted you on Eddie's Birthday post.
Yes JF, Marie is right it is for blood pressure. It helps a little with w/d's I guess. I know you think you are doing the right thing but I know people who have withdrawn from Oxy's and from my own experience with methadone it is about the same. Everyone is different but if you were going to switch from narcotic to narcotic then you may consider going from Oxy to percocets or vicodin. Something not so strong. If ya know what I mean. Then wean down and stop altogether. You are going to be in pain either way you look at it. So if you really want to be totally clean then I suggest talking to your doctor and getting on a good tapper plan and then sucking up the pain for a while. Maybe your doctor can give you something to help sleep in the meantime. I did it with benadryl and 800 mg motrin but the pain is unbearable in the beginning. As time goes on you will feel a little better.Vitamins, exercise(if possible)and eat banana's for RLS. Also hot bathes help. I found that comtrex cold and flu helped me through some pretty tough nights. You have to find what's best for you but these are just a few suggestions. If your not seeking medical attention!!! Best of luck to you, Rae
I had a friend over this weekend, who just came out of detox..and learned that clonadine also calms the automic neverous system, which goes nuts..the sweating, shaking, restless legs..it is supposed to help. I never knew that..
good luck, and that is just like swithcing to beer to get off of scotch..you should look into subutex instead..
kgood luck, and i agree with cowgirl...we have to change our behaviors...
