Hello,
I am right in the middle of vicodin withdrawal. All I do is cry. The diarhea is almost gone but the mood swings and crying are awful. I tried using very very little xanax to help but I was afraid of getting addicted to it so I disposed of the. Has anyone any suggestions to help me thru this. I am alone and I don't want anyone around me! Barbj
I am on day eight and am still lethargic. Once all of the diarrhea and the vomiting are over it's good to keep your mind off of it. I am still depressed but I've done this before and it does get better. Laying around seems to put me into a state of rigamortis with extreme body aches so I guess movement is good.
Hi Barbj:
First, congratulations for getting off the stuff. In a few days you will be better....and happier and not controlled by this drug. While that probably does nothing for you now, try to remember that every minute that passes is one minute closer than before.
The depression, unfortunately, is normal. Narcotics mess around with your brain's seratonin levels, so your poor brain is trying to figure out how to stabilize. And it will. I understand that this is the worst part....the uncontrollable crying. It reduces the strongest he-men to crying at television commercials... Trust me. It's normal.
That said, any kind of outdoor activity would help if it's sunny where you are, drag a chair outside and get some vitamin d from the sun on you. Pop a b-12 vitamin or three...Eat something with protein in it if you can--evidently, carbs help with the messing of seratonin right now. Take some hot showers for body aches, and just let it out...Just cry if you need to. It will stop. Can you have someone over for moral support? Seeing another person may help ease some of the depression.
If you search some of the board here, you will find out what others have done to get thru it. You will see that many feel really good now, and are pleased to be done with narcotics.....This will hopefully squelch any urge to take a pill again in the future....It's tough, but you truly have passed thru the horrible part. There is one way to go...UP!!
Be well, and keep posting........Breeze

Breeze,
Thank you so much. I will do what you suggest. I have b 12 here and lots of water. Not much sunshine today though. Thanks

Barbj,
I'm newly detoxed off vics (or their equivalent) as well. Immodium A-D helped both with the runs and the aches. Motrin. Plenty of water. As much exercise as you're capable of. Most people don't even try to do what you're doing. You really sound determined to stay off all pills. I used valium to help through the w/d also, then flushed the remainder for the same reasons you got rid of the Xanax. I wish there was some way I could take away the pain of your w/d. Hang in. Keep posting. Each day should get better from here on out. Do you have face-to-face support where you are? M.

M,
Weren't you afraid of getting addicted to Valium?

Barbj,
Yes, which is why I flushed the remainder (20 or so pills). They'd served their purpose. M.

Barbj. When did you stop taking the vicodin? People usually say 8-10 days for that drug. How many days has it been for you?
Breeze,
On Monday I cut a 7.5 vicodin in 4 pieces and took 1/4. I thought then this crazy it is only keeping the drug in my system so that is the last I took. I only took them for about a month but abused them quickly taking about 6-8 per day.
So actually Monday was the last dose and it was very small.

I used to pop nearly twenty or more 10mg vics a day, and let me tell you, I know exactly what you feel like. The only thing I can think of saying is to let time heal you. Remember, in enduring one grows strong. And let your body rest as much as it needs, if possible. If not, make it possible. I Wish I had more to say, but I've always been afraid of giving the wrong advice.
The very worst days of w/d are over. Stay strong and you'll be rewarded with a better life. My prayers are with you.

hello ann ! I am on day 28 now and i have went through detox many many times and this last time i found something that really really helped and that was basically talking with others and believe it or not i found that reading non stop helped me because it was a healthy escape for me, i found that by really getting into a story kept me from thinking about the mental and physical pain, i mean for me my mine was racing it still is but soewhere during all of that reading my obssession was lifted. also i started going to self help groups and if thats not your cup of tea go see a counsellor, i dont know why you were put on dilaudid but if you do have real pain i would suggest toradol and when you start to feel better go for a little walk. im not a religious person but prayer helped. Im no guru but i as well as many here know about detox and w,ds maybe im babbling (lol ) i dont know but if i helped good if not, well ill just shut up and listentake care and post again.

hey ann....well dilaudid is a serious drug.....much stronger than vicodin and perc....and the withdrawl is tougher.....i was perscribed it once in the beginning not knowing what it was and got hooked and then went cold through the WD just like u.....the crawling feeling, shivers, not sleeping, just horrible....right? well i fought through it with the use of xanax but very little....i knew i wouldnt get hooked cuz honestly i hate them but when i needed them for WD purposes they are helpful...thtat or valium....but if u think u may like them and get hooked on them then skip it....go to ur doctor and tell him u are WDing and he will give u something called clonidine....it may help....its not addictive....and maybe some restoril to sleep.....that will definitely help u. let me know
well ann i have went through a dilaudid wd and its hell right? if u think u can take xanax or valium that would help u a ton....if u think u might like them too much then i would suggest goin to the doctor and tell him ur prob...he should give u something called clonidine which is non addictive.....and some restoril to sleep....they should help u...try them!!! take care
Hi everyone, I have been reading your stories and i wanted to share my story with you. I was addicted to percs, vics, and at the end the morphine patch and a few bags of heroin(snorted) i was taking up to 50 percs on a good day but i was so afraid of withdrawl i couldnt stop. i was addicted for 4 yrs. I tried my first detox in november i had a breakdown and i knew my next step was heroin,so i went to detox were i relapsed 2 days after i came home. i couldnt take the aches pains no sleep and cravings of drugs. while in detox i was put on methadone. about a month after detox i was back to square one and my life was getting worse. i had legal problems trying to obtain drugs by fraud and my addiction was worse than ever.thats when i decided to give the methadone clinic a try. I am happy to say iv'e been clean ever since. almost 6 mons now. i have a life now, ihave my family back/support and i'm working for the first time in 4 yrs. I know what your thinking, well it's replacing one drug for another and you'll be hooked on it. but the truth is it's the only thing thats worked. and you are supervised when they wean you down you go at your own pace. it's worth checking into. if any one wants to ask me any more about it i'd be happy to help. thanks for reading and i wish you all the best of luck. jenn my email is

You have HOPE and His name is JESUS. Just calledhis name and loof forhimon the Bible. Tell him your mistakes and he will understand you. He has time to listen to you and he is never busy. Don't be scared to be normal because this thought is the one that don' aloud you to be strong. Start a relationship with God and forgive yoursrlf for your mistakes. Surrender your life to Jesus. I fyou are going to suffer anyway why not suffer for a fair, honorable reason? if you are going to die why not die for someone worthy? if you are going to live why not live for a purpose?.you are not an accident of life but a creature made with a purpose on earth. Your life has a purpose different from addiction and you don't know it. He made you with a purpose and He loves you and cares. Why don't you dare to challengue Himby giving him an opportunity in ur life? Surrender to him and tell him you need him and you want him to reign in your life. Develop a relationship with Him and talk to Him, and accept your faults and tell Him that He in you can do it. He will do it IN you. Only His power will change what you can not. LOVE,
