Vivitrol New Help For People

I saw on the news today that this new drug has arrived to help with opiated addiction and alcohol addiction. I hope it's a miracle med and helps a lot of people. M.
Mandm,

My boyfriend was actually put on the vivitrol shot when he was in rehab and after rehab. He got it once a month and it's an opiate and alcohol blocker. It is definitely worth looking into for someone getting clean and coming out of rehab. This isn't the case for everyone but it even helped with his cravings.

It sounds promising and if it works, I hope insurance covers it or its not too expensive.

Staystrong,
Do they have to take the injections forever? Is it like methadone or suboxone?
Hi themom, I really don't know how they administer it. Would be great if it was once a month as it's ridiculous people having to go everyday for methadone. Good to see you TM (the mom) hope things are going better for you. M.
A medical compound to treat a spiritual disease.

Good luck.

Here is the website, you can find everything you need here!

Thanks SS!

Amen Pappabear,
You are the FIRST person besides my significant other who taught me it's a spiritual disease. I didn't understand it when I first heard this saying years ago. before I started my own spiritual journey. my soul searching journey. I NOW understand and do believe that we as a human being suffer if we don't feed the soul as well as feed the body.

drugs will suck the soul out of a person. it can make them look like empty shells of humans. life it self can do this let alone drugs only doing it.

I just had to respond to your wonderful statement and hope others find a way to understand it too if they haven't already.

wish you well...
oh!!! I forgot that I came to reply about the vivitrol shot too.. My daughter was on it for almost a year. you only get it once a month and her insurance, which is Medicaid, did indeed cover it.

The dr who administered the shot was an aweseome dr. I never saw a dr. ask so many personal questions as to how the patient is doing, plus this particular dr had knowledge way beyond just medical.. spiritual as well. he knows about addiction so well and other diseases of the body.
he watches out for the well care of the patient and doesn't just have you come in, get the shot and leave. you have to fill out a paper on how you're feeling each time.
the visit takes a while.
It was the only time my daughter age 26 was able to stay off of heroin.
but now she's off the shot due to a mishap with the dr.
there are no side effects to it and you don't get sick when you stop it like you do with methadone or the suboxone.
I don't think they know very much about this shot. from what my daughter told me last year.
all I know is that it stops the cravings in the addict and you only have to have it once a month compared to daily treatment.
we need to get more insurance companies to accept this wonderful help for addiction.
it's not like addicts WANT to be addicts.
one doesn't set out in life saying ,ghee, I want to be a drug addict when I grow up!!!
it happens subtly to some and others right away.
I say yes to this new medication.
It's about time.
Well, I've always been taught it is a physical, mental and spiritual disease. At any rate....
I am on Vivitrol for alcoholism now for two months. I had 4 years sober and then been really struggling with relapse. Awful time!! vivitrol does NOT make you feel high, it just blocks the receptors so that IF you do drink or drug, you do not feel high. It is an 'opiod antagonist' so that you are not inclined to drug or drink seek. It also helps with cravings. For me, it has helped dramatically in that I DO NOT have cravings at all and don't even want to drink. I am so grateful. I get the injection once a month. That way I don't even think about it and you can't monkey around with 'do I want to skip a pill today so then maybe I can drink...?" This allows me to build some sober time and focus on important aspects of my recovery. Many of us talk about the disease model and finally science is offering us some support. There are some side effects and you do need to see if it works for you, but it is worth looking into. Just my opinion...
I have heard a lot about that shot recently. the rehab my daughter is in offers it. I am not sure how I feel about it. I love that a person is not using heroin on it, but is it just prolonging a relapse if the person doesn't work on the addiction? My daughter has thought about going on it several times, but she has had second thoughts. I'm sure the rehab will help her decide what to do. It scares me, but not as much as heroin scares me.
My boyfriend who was addicted to pain pills was on the shot and it worked and he got clean!
Make sure if you get the shot you go to counseling too
I read that the FDA recently approved or is about to approve a longer acting vivitrol injection, almost a pellet under the skin, lasting 3-4 months, which will offer more peace of mind. Now if I could just convince my son to go back on it. It was the most wonderful two months of my life! He came up with bogus depression and lack of sex drive stories for the doctor so he could go back to abusing suboxone and subsequently heroin.
