Want To Quit

I know that I have a problem, and have been denying my drinking and making every excuse to keep it up. Lately though I have been picking up in the morning and drinking all day just to keep that nice feeling that I get and not being anxiuos. I know that the drinking is making me full of more anxiety and by me keeping the drinking up its making it worse. I have been getting sick to stomach, and not eating right. I am out of work for the week so I have been drinking way to much where I use to just drink a few after work. I am worried though because someone told me that if stop cold turkey I could die from withdrawls and that only made me want to keep on drinking. I have gone without it and did not die, I just want to know if I should just cut down for the time being and then stop or just not drink at all and deal with the withdrawals. What would the withdrawals be? If someone could give me some information I would be so happy. I cannot afford to go to rehab and just want to do this myself.
You may have crossed that invisible line that so many of us alcoholics do, where the booze has just stopped working for us. I thought I'd never drink in the morning, but it I went there, in the last stages of my drinking about the 25th - 28th year of drinking. Withdrawals are not pleasant, but being hungover is awful too. For me, it was recommended that I continue to drink a few beers until I could get to the Doctor ~ I hit my bottom early on a Friday morning, drank some beers on the Saturday so I wouldn't seize and then stopped completely on Sunday, attended an AA meeting and was in horrible shape...got to the Doctor first thing Monday morning and checked in for 8 days with her to get my vitals checked, etc. So, you may want to talk to your Doctor. Good luck to you.

congrats to you on reaching out - what a great first step you've made. Also admitting your problems - huge.

It all depends on how much and how often and how long you've been drinking - different for everyone. I'd say go to your doctor be honest with him/her and let them advise if medically supervised withdrawal is needed for you or not.

all the best
Idgie.
