Congrats!!!!!!!!. I am so envious. I want to stop..so bad.
How did you do it? I have been chewing the gum and made it three days once...but as soon as I could, I lit up again. dumb.
what were your strategies?

Get the chantix, Kerry. It's the closest thing to a miracle drug I've seen for quitting. It was still hard but not as hard as with the NRTs. You smoke for the first 7 days on it, quit on the 8th, and can take it for up to 6 months. I was on it about 2 and a half. There are some side effects like upset stomach (fixed by eating) and wierd dreams but it seems to have worked for me. Give it a try. I am a huge supporter of chantix. I've been trying to quit for close to 3 years and couldn't get past a month.
Sammy, give me a shout if you need me. You can do it, girl!

Good Job Kat.
One of the things that helped me was replacing the habit.Something you've wanted to try for years but smoking got in the way.It needs to be something fun so when you get involved in it,there will always be that correlation.

Congrats Kat...you're awesome. The Chantix works...it's incrediable stuff, the best part is, you keep smoking so that it doesn't stress you out while you're taking it. And then all the sudden, you don't want any. I'm down to one a day and my goal is none tomorrow.
Thanks, Kat. I will ask the doctor. It must feel so good....I am so sick of it. When I go to the bf's, I can go all day. But when I get home, it is a stupid compulsion.
Did you gain weight? That is another thing, but I would rather been a few pounds heavier than dead.

I gained about 10 but have lost two so I'm on my way back down (I hope). Just stay away from chocolate covered cinnamon Altoids.
Well...I started it today, gang. And Jeffrey thank you for the wonderful phone call. It's a good day for me when my phone rings and I get to hear your voice. I figured I have everything to gain and nothing to lose (except smelly clothes, breath, and a whole lot of money) so why not? Someone said to me earlier in the week, "Oh you don't want to go stop smoking just as you change jobs. That's too stressful!" I just looked and smiled and thought to myself if you only knew the number of times I have denied life with that kind thinking.
It's time to play ball! :)

They are pretty good aren't they? Ahhhh, the nurses at the Phase III Lung Cancer Clinical Trial group say, that is just one less patient we will have....
Don't tell them, but I am hoping to put them out of business..and I see I have some collaborators here.....

Congradulations, OK!
I'm really impressed. Quitting cigarettes, for me, is without a doubt the hardest thing I could ever imagine. It's good to see someone succeed. So how do you feel now? Food taste better and all that?
xxxxxoooo

I didn't even know they made cinnoman chocolate altoids...lol.
I am going to beg the doc on tuesday for the chantix.. The last time I asked for it, she basically told me it was too hard; she used to run a smoking cessation class and said people told her it was harder than heroin..lol. She told me to get life better first.
I know you ladies can do it. Sammy, I have the utmost faith in you. If you don't mind, can you post some of your journey here?

OK The only thing that tastes better is chocolate. Everything else seems the same but I've never been one to sit and really enjoy a meal like some I"ve seen. I eat more like "ok, let's get this over with". But those damn chocolate covered cinnamon altoids have me and I found them on sale for a buck and a half. I do have a tad more energy though and I definitely feel better all around. The thought of smoking grosses me out but there is still something missing if that makes any sense. I don't want to smoke but I want something. I just haven't found it yet. Oh yeah, another new vice is iced coffee. Caffiene seems to be the only thing I have left. Poor saintly me.

LMFAO...poor nor saintly are words I would describe you, sweetie...LOL...
Okay, Sammy, you're on...I just took my 1st chantix so this will be day 1 on the Chantix...I think quitting now at the change of a job is a good idea...when I got my new car a few months back, I swore I would not smoke in it, and I haven't and the funniest thing is I have no desire to when I'm in it, almost like my little addict mind knows to wait until I get out of the car to send those urges...So if you start a new job and you're a non-smoker it just might be easier on you....
Kerry, the Chantix works...I had the info printed out for my doctor and some success stories only to find out, he already really believed in it and had bought it for two of his friends since it wasn't covered by their insurance...I am very fortunate because my insurance is covering it and I only have a $15 co-pay...
I'm getting a real resentment against my cigarettes anyways...I was told last week they added another chemical in them to make them burn out at certain times and they taste like sh*t and I'm done....
Good luck to everyone out there trying to kick this nasty addiction...
xoxo

hooooooooooooooray stacey! thanks for accepting my invitation. this is the third day for me and to be perfectly honest with you, i haven't seen any difference with the exception of a little G.I. upset.
maybe by tomorrow when i will start taking the two tabs a day, i'll notice something different. however, my sister told me it took her about 3 weeks before she realized a noticeable difference in that she was having no cravings. she also said to not stop taking it. saturday she celebrated 30 days smoke free.
so keep posted as to how you are doing and i'm elated that you chose to hold my hand as we continue on our journey together. you are awesome, stacey and i couldn't be in better company.
email me and i will give you my phone number.
hugs and tons of encouragement to you!

I am in awe. Four months. Perhaps not so much in awe as damn envious! Not a good emotion.
I quit with Zyban on Feb 1, and while I have reduced my xsmaoking to 5 cigs a week from 20 a day, I have noty been able to quit completely. I have cut dsown my Zyban to 1 pill a day (was on 2) as I am getting a bit moody. Not suere if it is ongoping nicoteine withdrawl or Zyban. If I go off the Zyban I think I will be back to smoking.
I go on a two week holiday on 1 April I plan to be in nature and on the beach. I will use the change in routine to re commit to no smaking at all.,
I quit all the other drugs in my life (except caffeine) and was mable to stay stopped. But this damn nicoteine is tough.
So, I am totally impressed with anyone who kicks the cigs permanently!

Hey Sammy...
LOL...I was hoping when I logged on here this morning maybe this post would have died but God has different plans...so this is Day 2 on the Chantix and I remember it was around day 4 that I was down to about 6 cig's a day and didn't even smoke them all the way....So, I very much look forward to our journey and I hope I'm willing enough this time to follow through....I've been praying for some extra willingness every morning and I do know prayers are answered....
I will send you an e-mail with my number...call anytime...also, Miss Katbird has my phone number and can give it to you...
Thanks for the invite...And I too look forward to being a Non-smoker...
xoxo
