Wednesday's Pledge.

Today I will not smoke. I am on day 21. The cravings are subsiding, not that I don't have them, but they are not as often. I don't know about tomorrow or the next week or anything more than just right now. But I am making the pledge is anyone here to take my other hand and pledge

N.O.P.E. (not one puff ever)
I wish, Jane...but I'm just not there yet. My daughter hasn't smoked for 10 days now, and she was over a pack a day. Me, I'm the 5-8 cigs a day girl and just not ready to give them up. I am so impressed at your willpower and wish you luck.

Jane you are doing great! Keep up the good work!

I am on day 4, taking one Chantix in the late afternoon, but I'm not having cravings...glad there aren't any smokers around me though.
bumps,
Can you tell me about your experience with the Chantix? I'm going to the doctor next week and am going to ask for it.
My sister in law is an alcoholic and smokes like a chimney. She has it, but hasn't really made an effort I don't think, I tried to ask her about it but she finds reasons not to take it.
Now, is it something that you take and the object is to make the cig taste like crap? Or is it something like zyban where you have to take it and get it in your system? How do you do it?
I gotta quit this nasty habit. I'm gonna be fifty this year and have been smoking for thirty years.
Enough is enough, there's not a thing wrong with me except pain in my legs, but thats from injuries in the past and nothing thats going to kill me.
But i don't take any meds (except ppls), I've been told by my doctor that I've got the blood pressure of a teeager, and I'm in good shape, except I know the older I get and the longer I smoke, I'm asking for trouble in the health dept. ya know? Can you help me with your personal info on this? Thanks hon, Roe
Chantix works kind of like sub, it blocks the nicotine receptors in your brain. You build it up in your system over several weeks. You will notice it's kicking in when you start putting cigs out, or just don't want them. You still have to make a conscious decision to stop, they tell you to stop smoking after a week on the Chantix. I did after 13 days and lasted 8 months. My MIL passed away so I got stressed and bought a pack, which led to another 4 days of smoking. I restarted the chantix the second day I smoked and it wasn't that hard to put them back down. The worst side effect I had was constipation. It's kind of expensive (about $139) but alot of insurance companies are covering it.

Good luck!
I am really sorry about your mom in law.
When you stopped, you just stopped? There was enough built up that they just didn't appeal to you? Did you pick a day? And then when you started briefly again, were you not taking the chantix and therefore the cigs tasted good again? Then you started the chantix again, and once you got a bit in, you were able to stop again, am I on the right track?
And what benefits did you notice since quitting?
I'm sorry with all the questions, I just would be so proud of myself if I could do this. I hope my insurance covers it, it should (if I were an insurance co. I'd rather pay for pills than lung cancer) I figured it would be expensive, but think about how much cigs are. Between my husband and I, we spend about $300/maybe a little less but not much, a month and that just insane.
When you stopped, you just stopped? I picked a day to quit and refused to smoke.
There was enough built up that they just didn't appeal to you? The chantix takes the pleasure out of smoking, you just don't seem to need them.
And then when you started briefly again, were you not taking the chantix and therefore the cigs tasted good again? I wasn't taking the chantix, I stopped after 5 months. The cigs tasted at first just like the first time you started smoking. I got used to smoking again very quickly.
Then you started the chantix again, and once you got a bit in, you were able to stop again, am I on the right track? Again, I picked a quit date, but after the 3rd day on the Chantix I was starting to put them out early anyway.
And what benefits did you notice since quitting? I could enjoy the taste of food again. I didn't have that nasty cough and didn't get a cold this past winter, though I did start having allergies again. I just feel better and it's nice to know that I don't have to sit out in the sweltering heat or freezing cold to kill myself...lol
I guess Kat and Sarah have deserted us??? I hope you guys are still quit. I made it through the day and tomorrow makes three whole weeks. So I guess I'll hold out for a few more hours and make this twenty four. The truth is this morning just sucked and I wanted a cig really bad. But I don't smoke so I have to claim insanity. I am a non smoker so that would just be crazy of me to smoke. LOL Ok not working but I can't wait to put this day to bed. I do not want to go back on one full Chantix they make me feel terrible when I take two but I can see from today that I am not ready to cut back just yet. Janet did you taper or just jump off? WBS
jane

PS I Will check in tomorrow
I didn't taper, I just stopped taking them. I didn't start at 1/2 pill either, just started taking the 1mg right away. I didn't take one today bc I really haven't had a whole lot of cravings.
