Weight Gain?

Hi, I'm new to this site. It's cool that they actually have a forum like this.
I've been taking opiates (mainly Vicodin Es, Percocet) for almost three years now, but I'm trying to get clean again. I have gained an unbelievable amount of weight since I started taking those stupid things. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, did you loose it? Does anyone here go to NA?
Hello Aliced,
I just thought I'd say hello and welcome to you before I go out to moms for coffee. (I promised I'd be there yesterday,so she is a little mad at me )
I think we have something in common with regard to the pills, the only difference is everyones amount of time
And there are many here who go to NA.Have you been to NA?, or do you want to know about it? Talk to you later.Your e-sis, Nancy
Nancy,
Thanks for writing! I have been in NA, but I never got past the 1st step. I'm thinking of going again because I'm so sick of this feeling. I feel like I can do it myself now, but I know that there will be times when I feel like taking them again. They don't even make me feel good anymore - physically or mentally. How long have you been clean? Do you feel a lot better since you quit?

Hi there. I go to both AA and NA and have made many friends and we help eachother through the rough spots and share eachothers joy. I love not having to battle this addiction monster on my own. HE is too big and powerful for me by myself.
When you started taking the opiates they probably had an effect of you losing weight, but opiates sedate your body and turn on you to the point where your matabolism slows by 60% or more, you find yourself eating more and doing things you do not realize you are doing, if you do not stop your weight gain will be the least of your problems, and after three years of constant opiates being fed into your body you will probably need some sort of detox and treatment program, you will have about 30-60days of pain, but it beats a life time of hell. Goodluck to you
Thanks to June and Guest.

As for Mabel, I failed to mention that I have lost a lot of the weight that I had gained, but I'm still not the size 6 I used to be before taking the pills. They do, by the way, make you gain water weight. I just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced weight gain from them. You're soooo sweet. Thank you for your support.
I guess everyone is different, when I first began abusing opiates, I lost alot of weight and then when I started on methadone I gained it all back and then some! However it is true, weight is the least of our problems! Good luck.
Yep..opiates make girls fat and boys skinny...I gained some weight on them after many years of pill munching...my first sponsor lost all her opiated weight after a year clean....without doing anything physically different...It stores in your fat cells ladies..so it does take some time(kinda like pregnancy weight)...as for 90 days of pain...nahh...just like 14 rough and maybe 30 days of the twinge in the legs, unless you are kicking methadone, then I suggest BUPE to avoid that harsh reality ....I was REAL tired though for a good 90 days...just be kind to yourself...we were HARD on ourseleves out there...When I used pharmeceutical dope I NEVER ate,I mean who needed FOOD...nothing but starbuxx and cigarettes...and gained like 30 lbs in a 3 yr span...the stuff is SO TOXIC...so At 7 months clean I finally have enough energy to start picking up some excercise, but the first few months I didnt beat myself up for just getting through the day and hitting the sheets anytime I needed it...my body was such a wreck from all the drug abuse of pills...SO many pills.
Be patient...of course something many of us addicts do not possess naturally?
