I started because a GUY b/f thought it would help me from feeling strung out on uppers. Funny 60% said g/f b/f huh who knew.
Of course I had tried weed,and other drugs. I went to plenty of Greatful Dead shows ,and tripped with all types of hallucinagenics. Living at that time in LA, I had no interest in heroin. - but- I did drink alcohol,and tried Qualudes, and had a big interest in natural drugs- mushrooms,peyote and the like.
When I came back to the East Coast,the cocaine area was going on. The Studio 54 times ,turned into the underground clubs,and the known offbeat hangouts like CBGB,s OMFUGS(for you older NYers)..etc..& I guess I was drawn in to the flow.of the worst drug era of ny street drugs since opium was legal .
I had a close cousin (still do,however he is now clean) who was doing heroin and scaring my whole family with his criminal behavoir, and desperate acts .
In the process of trying to get him to stop with the dope, the reverse happened, and I tried heroin. At 1st it made me sick and so out of it, I couldnt see the attraction. I dont know why,when ,or how but this dippin & dappin continued until I got a small habit. Instead of nipping it in the bud, I found myself emerged in the whole crazy scene.
Well the scene ended, but the use didnt- the behavoir got worse- crime,county jails,more arrests court dates. .etc ..etc.
Hospitals,rehabs,countless at home attemps ,all to no avail.
When thet say -jails,institutions,and death- they aint kiddin!
So before the last result(death)- I......
Wound up on Mdone.- - the story doesnt change to much from that point.
--Sorry for going on & on- But the question"What made me start-doent have a answear that makes any sense- and that just kills me - I wasnt a kid ,I shouldve known better, and I saw what this drug was doing to my cousin and his friends& our families. I have no answear and ultimetly,still looking for the solution

I know how my hubby found it. In, well not sure what it was, a rehab of sorts, go figure, left with a nice habit and a needle to boot at 17.....

I was using other stuff, and my friends and parents were doing it, but mostly it was from the demon oxy contin
For what it is worth,
My ex bf who has been shooting heroin for over thirty years claims that he started doing it and continued to shoot heroin because it made and makes him feel good...not because he became addicted to it...
Am i missing something here....after a span of 30 years of heroin abuse he has been incarcerated numerous times...earned many felonies that have lost and prevented him secure employment...broken relationships...loss of family and friends...Hep C...and approaching 54 years of age..currently on probation for drug trafficking...without a pot to pee in really..he still claims he did it or does it because it makes him feel good?
I think he is still floating down that old D' Nile
River in Egypt.

mary, that last bit there reminded me of something my uncle would say to me, ha ha... that was cute, D'nile...
No disrespect intended...but that last one about cause a drug dealer gave you a free sample kinda made me chuckle a bit.

being that i am not a heroin addict nor have i ever tried it probably should preclude me from throwing my 2 cents in here again...but i in regards to the free sample from the drug dealer thing..
well the ex bf was a drug trafficker.(of course he denied it)...and i told him never to bring that stuff in my house...which of course he said he wouldn't...
but one day i was cleaning behind my stereo center and i found about $100 bucks of heroin packaged for street sale...i was so mad that i took the whole lot of it...soaked it in a bowl of hot water and then flushed it down the toilet..
i guess you could say that i found a really big free sample from a drug dealer and i had no desire to try the stuff out.....nor profit from it financially
do drug dealers ever really give out free samples?

believe it or not Mary- Free samples are kind of popular- not real often but the addicts always look foward to them
yep,mary the freebies do come,as jack said sometimes.i do know in the early 90s dealers in Dublin sold a pack with 2 Es&a 20 bag of smack,the Es u had to pay for but the smack...no,thats not until you just wanted the smack,then it got dirty....all the best ...davey

alright,robbie&emily,who havnt said hello to ,so hello emily,as you know rob i lived over there for yrs,&yeh i lived in hornsey/turnpike lane for a while,but i tell ya nothing bet bethnal green/whitechapel areas i lived there for bout 6yr. until i moved back to ireland/2000.i would score&be walking back to my gaff&other dealers would have spotted me&race up in a motor/bike giving out promises&ph.nos on nicley printed cards,mate it was too much.rob all the best you to emily....davey
