Withdrawals

I've been taking 4-6 percocets a day for about 3 years with a few stretches of cleanliness in there somewhere. I stopped yesterday, and, of course feel like crap today. Took tomorrow off from work also. You guys think I'll feel better come Wednesday?? I've been taking them illegally, and I want this to be it for me. I can't do this forever. I'll admit I like the euphoric feeling I get from them, but it's temporary (of course) as are most things in life. I take meds for depression and anxiety, but nothing makes me feel as good as I feel after popping a perc. What the hell should I do?? When will I physically feel better?
Consider yourself very lucky that you are realizing now that you have a problem. Yes you will suffer some withdrawals but it will not be intolerable. I was up to 10+ and my withdrawals became bearable around day 5. Ive said it here many times - I can clearly recall the feeling of waking up on day 5 or so an not feeling totally wiped out. I had gotten some sleep and the jittery feeling I was waking with the past few days was gone. I woke up with energy to face the day - get breakfast going, do some cleaning, etc. I truly felt triumphant. The thing that gets to alot during withdrawals is we think they just will not end - BUT THEY DO! Can you go to work on Wednesday? hmmm thats up to you. Not sure what you do. Make sure you have Immodium DM. Try to get a banana in you, some orange juice, perhaps peanut butter. If you dont fall back, just think - by the weekend you will feel like a clean person again. The temptation to get pills in the future is the thing you will deal with later on. But for now, just pamper yourself however you can do get through these next few days. You are getting off the pills at a good time. If you dont do it now, I promise you will be at 10 and 20 like many of us here. The more your body gets used to, the harder it will be to get clean. Good luck. Aim for the weekend. You will love feeling guilt free and clean.
Edit to say - maybe its just me - but would you consider changing your name from percocet? To me it sortof labels you. You are MUCH better than that. Hope you dont mind my saying this. Whatever works for you comes first of course.
thank you donna, and if that's you in the pic.....wow!!
lol percocet - I must confess its not me! Who would have thought! lol. But I just liked the expression cause its one I often wear lol. Someday I may post me but I sent out a pic years ago on line and husband was not happy. Between him and wondering if my own kids or their friends come to this sight keep my picture safely off line.
As I look at it now, I think the "are you kidding me" face turned to hiccupping lol.
You asked in another post "will this get worse?". For me, the withdrawals did not really "get worse" but they stayed "constant". It was like ground hog day - all over again for about 5 days and then all of a sudden it was a much better day. Again, hang in there. If you do, a week from now you will be saying the same thing.
Percocet, I think for everyone it is different as to when they begin to feel better. As far as work see how you are feeling tommorrow. I couldn't go back to work for a couple of months but I had also been on pills alot longer than you and on a much higher dose. That's why I say it is different for everyone. Are you going to NA or counseling? Good luck, Shantel
Hey Donna, LOL it does look like she hiccupped. Shantel
Hey Percocet, ditto what DonnaTwo said, at around day 5, I start feeling better - for me it is just a matter of getting to day 5. Hot baths help, the hotter the better. Hang in there and good luck in your recovery.
Percocet...you said that you have had stretches of sobriety in the past, how long did the withdrawals take during those times? One thing about addiction, is, it's progressive. Every time you pick up again, you can bet that the withdrawals will take longer and get more intense.
IMO I really don't think you can put a timeline on when someone is gonna start feeling better. Everyone is different. Some people state here they were feeling better in 3 or 5 days and some people say it took alot longer. Any takes on why? Shantel
I think you're right Shantell...everyone is different. It just seems though that the 7-10 day mark is normal for most. But again, every time you go through withdrawals, they do get worse and take longer. This last time for me it took months to get my head on straight again.
Lisa, Months? I am still trying to get my head on straight and it has been over a year. Maybe I should have changed my hair color from blond to black sooner. Shantel
I didn't say that I got my head out of butt, it's just straighter....
