Okay, most of you know my story, I am on subs, down to 16mg now, okay, well, dr had me on 1mg xanax 3 xs a day, ok, i relapsed after taking 3 xanax @ a time, went out drinking...gone 2 days, white chip, back on the horse...
Now, I am also tapering off the xanax, I am taking one half in the afternoon, and a whole one only when I feel paniky, (in public places) I have severe social phobia, my doc has me on paxil, it should kick in for 3 more weeks, am I doing the right thing by cutting myself down on the xanax, or forgive myself for taking 3 @ a time, and keep taking them as dr prescribbed (ps these stop in 3 wks when paxil kicks in) thanks, this is VERY IMPORTANT TO ME, please, as many people who read this, please respond....this may be life or death to me here....thanks, Julie
Julie I wrote you in another post. You went to a meeting and got some #

Julie, one suggestion for the panic attacks. I've often used the slow breathing technique that they teach you in Lamaze class. Works great!
Good Morning Julie,
I am glad you are posting. It is important to be honest with yourself and others. I am not familiar with a Xanax taper, however, I recommend you go to your Dr.'s. It sounds like you are off of the Vicodin? I hope you are getting outside support. It is hard going out in large groups for many people, and panic attacks are awful. I hope the Paxil "kicks" in soon. I wish you the very best. Take care, Best Wishes

This is a question for your Dr.If you are trying to get off the Xanax, ask him the best way to do it without any bad complications.Benzo w/d's can cause seizures and we are not doctors here.If somone comes on here and tells you to just stop taking them, that could be dangerous.
You had a slip and took them with alcohol which Im sure you realize is dangerous in itself.I dont know what relationship you have with your Dr.but if its a trustful one and he is not too judgemental,he will be the best one to relate this too.
I dont think it would be necessary to go into the details of your little party you had the other night, but I would definitely let him know you are trying to quit.If that is what you are trying to do.

julie,
tim gave you great advice on the xanax, so i wont repeat that but i do want to say, yes most definately forgive yourself. this is not perfection only progress. chalk that up as an experience that you can learn from and grow. you have nothing to be ashamed og sweetheart. this is a tricky/sneaky disease. it takes work and you need a good support team and keep reaching out to the ones who love you and the ones who have walked the road ahead of you. i am happy to hear you are back home and have chose to pick up your prized gem the white chip. keep your chin up its easier to see heavan that way

Julie, did they tell you that if you put your white chip on your tongue and it melts, it's okay for you to use?
Julie how long have you taken Zanax? If your going to wean off of Zanax that means you have been taking for a long time .Klonopin would be the best med to use.
Julie when I started my detox and therapy I felt great surrounded by addicts.
Can you not get yourself into a outpatient therapy group? This would be really good for you. Keeps you busy and you meet early recovering addicts.
I cannot believe this doctor gave you Zanax instead of klonopin to begin with.

Hey Juliebella:
I'm lola10, new to the site but I can relate to everything you said. Be careful of the xanex I had grand mal seizures trying to come off of it too quickly. I also have social phobia and am on paxil, which works actually but can cause weight gain (of course) and is almost impossible to get off of, at least for me, so I decided to just stay on it Don't beat yourself up for taking 3 xanex, it won't change anything and just try to learn from it. I've been on this lortab merry go round for far to long. I know all the tricks to detox from it, but I don't know the trick of staying off. I don't like 12 step meetings because I don't like to be in a group (that social phobia thing). I've been through so much the past few years that it's hard to care enough to come off the pills. I must have some survival instinct left because I'm on this site. Hang in there.'

IMHO Your Dr should have switched you from Xanax to either Klonopin or Valium when beginning the taper.
Xanax is short acting and hard to taper off, Klonopin and Valium are long-acting and easier.
