I have to share this with you guys!
First of all, my H doesn't have a driver's license, he lost it about 5 yrs ago when he got a DUI, and never went through the classes or did what he had to do to get it back, even though he could've got it back 2 yrs ago. We have had many arguements about this, and he still didn't do it, so i gave up on bugging him.
Well i usually drive when we go away (me, him and baby) because i do have a license....but lately he's been getting into the habit of driving more when we go...and to tell you the truth, it got to a point that i sort of forgot about him not being legal. Well yesterday he was in the drivers seat when i came out to leave and i just got in and we took off.
We get about 10 miles up the road and i hear a siren, look back, and we have cherries;( ok...we pull over, (my 1st thought was oh my god, i have pot and a pipe in my purse...then i realized, i don't even have pot and a pipe;) Just used to my old ways i guess...anyways...long story short....my H was arrested (right in front of our son, who was freaking out BTW) for Driving after Revocation, handcuffed, put in the patrol car and taken to jail!!!!
The cop didn't even ask to see my license, he said he ran my plates and i was good to go;) But said i am not allowed to let him drive anymore no matter what. I asked him why he pulled us over to begin with and he said he saw my H tip something that he thought was a beer...it was a Grape pop!! Thank the good Lord!!!!!
Now...had i still been drinking, # 1...i wouldn't have been able to drive the vehicle away, # 2...i may have been driving to begin with, and my son would've had to see his Mom and Dad get taken away and he would've had to go with them. That makes me sick to my stomach to think about. He would've never been the same again, i know it.
When i got out to walk around the van to get in the driver's side he started balling and screaming "Mommy No!" He thought i had to go with them too! I will never forget the sound of him screaming;(
I did get him all settled down and everything, but my god, i am taking this as a blessing from above that's for sure!
Needless to say, i was happy to be home, and sober last night;) I will never forget yesterday, ever....it could've been terrible.
the screams of the little ones will tear your heart right out. My ex-agf got thrown in jail for yelling at a police officer, (she was high), her son was in the back seat of my car, he got to watch his mom get thrown to the ground, handcuffed and dragged off.
Oh, the effects even lingering after so much time of what this all does to the kids....
On the bright side- YAY for Jayde- sober and got to go home! A good reminder!

Wow Jayde....scary stuff for you and your little one. My kids have never had to see either my Ex or I get taken away like that...but it was just around the corner for us I am sure...my kids have been through all kinds of other stuff (and when they were old enough they'd call my Parents to come get them...when they were too scared to stay with either of us). So glad you are sober! How's your husband doing today ~ thank goodness he wasn't drinking. Thanks for sharing that, it reminds of yet another gift of sobriety...don't have to worry about the Cops.
Jayde:
I am so happy you are sober. I am so glad that you were able to be there for your son and handle the situation. I will never, ever forget the police coming to our house when I was little. Although, they were there to get my father, I thought we were all going to jail. It was scary.

Rachel, Yes, that was very scary...I remember one very specific time when I had to call our Grandparents who in turn called the Police on him and he was taken away....I felt so guilty. I remember too when he had to do time, I was so embarrassed when other kids would talk about their Dads and ask where mine was. No wonder I'm an addict/alcoholic (just thought I'd make you laugh with that one, getting back at you with your post last night ~ lol!)
Jayde, I am so glad you are sober and you are breaking the cycle...you're son will be so much better for it. You're doing great, especially getting through all that yesterday and not picking up drink...good going Girl!

Jayde, that must have been SO scary, esp with your little one in the car, but it's so wonderful that you were sober and able to take him home with you. I'm also happy you were able to take something so positive from the experience. Stay strong, you're doing great girl! VW and Rachel, I can't imagine anything like that story, or growing up in such an environment. You are a strong pair of ladies! Although I knew that already :). My dad took one drink a day, and I can only recall seeing him drunk once - once was enough, it was an ugly situation. And mom never drank at all b/c her mom was an alco. The only time the cops showed up at our door was b/c they hit our dog with their car... and the dog turned out to be OK. So I'm thankful that there wasn't much of that in the house when I was a kid.
Hi Jayde, Wow that must have been scary, is your H still in jail? I am so glad you were sober, and were there for your son. Being sober is really working for you girlfriend!!! good on ya!! ;)

Jayde what an experience. Seems like you are seeing it in the right light.
I was telling my uncle last night about how my H got off so easy on his DUI a month or so back. And he told me about a guy he'd had before him last week (my uncle is a judge) who had been driving in a blackout and caused an accident and all this stuff and couldn't figure out why he was getting his license suspended and weekend detention and all that. Like he couldn't even understand what he had done wrong.
It just gave me chills. There but for the grace of God go I.

Crikey Jayde,
The coppers dont muck around over there, do they!!
If that was here in Oz they would have given him an instant fine and made you drive home with H in passenger seat!
I got put on the breatho twice when I was working this w/end sat morning and sun morning, Man its a good feeling not to start sweating when I get pulled into a RBT now (Random Breath Testing)
Take care girl you are doing awesome,
Ginge

Hello, thanks everyone for your replies. Yes, it was very scary for me, i can't imagine how my precious little boy felt. I've been giving him soooo much love though, i hope he can forget about it;)
Yes, my husband got out right away, after he was booked, only had to be in there for like 45 minutes, and luckily it was a signature bond, otherwise he'd still be sitting there (if it was a cash bond) because we don't have much money right now. He's on his own with this though because i practically begged him to go get his license and he never did. To me that is something that i would need to do before i could sleep at night.
No Ginge...the cops don't screw around here, they have to make their quota's ya know;) I bet he was pissed that it was grape pop too, not beer.
Those were the good ol' days when they'd tell you to go home and don't do it again;)
I think this will be mandatory jail time though...they just changed the laws and i'm pretty sure he;ll have to do 5 to 7 days, plus $600 to $800 fine! I guess he'll find out at his court date on August 21.

Hi Ginge;)
Yes, i'm in Wisconsin, USA! There are very strict laws here, especially for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) When i was younger, and single, i had a couple DUI's, and had to spend 3 months in the County jail!!! You don't have to worry though...your a good boy now, right?
Have a great day Ginge;)

lol....yeah Ginge, if you cooperate with them and you don't smell like booze you'll be alright. I know all about getting s***ty with them when they give you a hard time, i found out the hard way that that will only get you another ticket for obstructing an officer, or resisting arrest!
I can relate to that certain look too, even though we're straight now, i guess we still have that bad boy/girl look;) I love that though...makes people wonder!

Ginge, Now that you are sober there won't be anything to worry about...the driving laws are very strict here, which I believe is a good thing!
Hi Jayde, love your new avatar!! Here in British Columbia, if someone who doesn't have a license, or if it is suspended and they are caught driving the vehicle the vehicle gets towed and impounded. Even if the passenger has a license and is the registered owner!! and it costs BIG BUCKS to get it out of impound!! pretty wild eh!! and the DUI here is tough as well, big fine and you loose your license, I'm not sure for how long but if it's more than once, I know you loose it permantely!!
Hope you are doing well hun
Big Hugs
