I know sometimes it's hard for lurkers or new board members to jump in and start a thread, so I wanted to start one for you. Is anyone detoxing or tapering off pain pills today? If so, how is it going? What is/was your drug of choice? What are your symptoms? What day are you on? Please feel free to share your thoughts..and post away.. We are all here to listen. Most of us have been where you are and it does get better! Hang in there and take it one day at a time. There will be a light at the end of the tunnel... Good luck! Rae
Ps. Also if your not tapering or detoxing but want to quit using, please feel free to post your feelings as well...
Great way to make people feel less apprehensive, hope people will post!!

Lortab being my doc. Used for pain management for way too many years. (ok...prescribed for pain management but used and abused for daily life functions). Feeling great today but maybe you should check out my thread about the "laugh at my expence" and offter up some adviced on what's being discussed there.....would love your advice on that.

Rae I am determined to get off Subox--the cost is not affordable and the pain is manageable. The suboxene affects my asthma and man the constipation?
Tired of PILLS--I am praying for help. Great topic Rae

Hey Rae and everyone
I remember i lurked on here a long time before i ever posted. It seemed like i was detoxing constantly because i would get a couple of days and then use again.I remember as soon as those awful sweaty, creepy crawlies would go away it was like i forgot how miserable i was and use again!!! so stupid. I mustve spent months in a constant detox state. yuck!!!
Good topic Rae!
ps. i took my yasmin last night---im scared. i hate hormones!!!!!!!

Have been taking percs for about a week as prescribed for bulging disc. I ran out of the pills on saturday and decided to wait it out until I see a neurosurgeon on thursday, for my own safety (ie- Im freaked out about becoming addicted to them!) and b/c I want to be able to feel describe the pain when I see him.
All I can say is WTF!! I was a heroin addict and the high off 1-2 percs doesn't even come close, but I'm three days off the percs now and definitely getting the reminder of what withdrawals were like. Besides the everpresent pain, I have all the w/d symptoms, just lessened: irritable, depressed, restless legs. Strong reminder of the pleasure/pain involved with being an opiate addict. Makes me remember how the w/d's were bad, but what was almost worse was the inability to find any pleasure/satisfaction in life for a long time afterwards
b/c using opiates killed my pleasure receptors.
This has definitely been a tough time for me. Pain is steady and always there, taking pain pills to remedy it is NOT a solution. I'm in recovery and cherish my clean time. i'm hoping the neurosurgeon will know what I should do; I've tried just about everything else and it seems like surgery is the only way now....

Firesign,
It is crazy how an addict can go through a withdrawl and then forget the physical pain involved then start using again. I have done that many times.. It all starts with I will just take one and I won't go through withdrawls again etc! Justifiying taking one for a headache or a toothache whatever. It is a cycle but it can be broken.. I feel so good after 7 months of not using. I take my vitamins and drink water. I realy want to start working out again. I know I will feel even better if I could just get into a routine and exercise. Anyway I hope the yasmin works out for you. Take care! Rae
JBR,
Happy to see you here.. Sorry you in a lot of pain. I hope you can get the surgery and feel better without the pain pills. So you were only taking percocet for 1 week and your experiencing withdrawl symptoms? That really stinks. Are you taking motrin or anything for your pain? I hope you feel better soon and hope to see you post more. Keep us posted on how your appt goes on Thursday! Rae

JBR, how many percs are you taking in a day that you're feeling w/d? The most I was ever prescribed was 2 every four hours. Is it because you're an opiate addict to begin with? When you ask the doctor what does he/she say?
That sucks.
That sucks.
Rae- thanks. Yeah, 1 week and i feel it. I've taken vicodin before this for the back pain, but it really didn't do anything that ibuprofen didn't, plus I had sufficient time in between scrips to w/d so I don't think I'm feeling the effects of w/d's from that. And like I said, the symptoms are lessened, but I still recognize them. It seems to me like it works both ways: ie- even if the effects are subtle, addicts feel the buzz (or at least are aware of it) even at a low dose, and same is true for w/d's. even though they may be subtle, as a reecovering heroin addict, I know the symptoms of w/d when I feel them, whereas a regular person might just think they are a little down and not automatically relate it to the pills. At least it seems this seems true in my experience.
Thanks for responding to my post everyone!

JBR, gosh I am so sorry that you are feeling withdrawal symptoms after using opiates for only one week. Hopefully they won't be too severe. If you have any major concerns please don't hesitate speaking to your prescibing physician. They should be able to guide you in the correct direction concerning addiction and they may be able to offer you non narcotic alternatives for pain control. Best wishes to you. Glad to see you here sharing your experience and story.

Pam

JBR,
I know what your saying and your right. However, it still stinks to have the symptoms after 1 week of using. Hope you feel better soon. Keep us posted on what happens Thursday at your appt. I have to run now for a while but I hope others continue to post their stories...
