lml,
Have you thought about just telling him the truth? I know its hard, but you can't do this alone, he needs to know for your sake and his. Is he supportive where he could help get you through your withdrawal? It takes about a week of flu like symptoms, once the physical is over the mental stays for a lot longer. Keep posting here, theres a lot of good people here that have been or are at where you are right now. The beauty of this board is theres no judgement passed here, the whole glass house and stones thing.
Welcome, you're not alone.

lml,
Welcome to the board! Let me ask you do you have a doctor? What are you taking and how much? Have you thought about going to NA meetings? Have you thought about going to an addiction specialist or out-patient treatment or rehab? I think it is important for you to have some face to face support. I think the first step would be telling your husband. Tell on yourself. You have nothing to ashamed of you need help. We are all here to support.. Write back. Rae

I will tell my husband but he has been through this before with me with so much support, I am not ready to let him down again. He has been my rock through so much, I just wish he didn' have to go thru this again
Well 16 hours is a good start just keep going and don't use. It will get better with time. What were you taking and how much before you quit?
I understand lml, I've let my husband down so many times myself. This disease does that to us...it makes us lie and do things we thought we'd never do.
Are you out of pills right now? Are you really ready to quit?
Again, we're here for you.

If you have access to them cut off your sources now. You have to be out of arms reach to do this. Its hard, I know but it can be done and you can have your life back. My advice is to take that first step and be honest with the people who love you and can help you right now.
You're worth it.

lml,
Well your going to have all the flu-like symptoms. I couldn't tell you for how mong everyone is different. The worst of it will be behind you by this this weekend... Do you have any Immodium AD, Motrin or Vitamins you can take?
Taking hot bathes will help some and eating banana's or anything with pottasium in it. Drink water and try and relax. You will get through it. The mental crap will probably kick in sometime this month. That is when you will think you can just take one pill and your mind starts playing tricks on you.. For right now just take it one hour at a time. I really think being honest with your husband is the best thing to do but that is your call. I wish you all the best! Keep posting we are all here to support you. Hang in there! Rae
Hey Redd. I posted to you on your thread yesturday jope you got a chance to read it. Your doing great and I am proud of you. Take care of that baby and eat some chocolate for me:-) I never missed a meal when I was pregnant with Lindsay.. I don't have the pregnancy excuse anymore to over eat so enjoy it. Love Rae

Thank you and i will definaltly be back ...this has helped more thatn you can imagine, my first step was to admit it even if you guys are not people i really know. This was difficult, and thank you
Hope to see you back soon. Take care and hang in there. You'll be okay just keep telling yourself that! Good luck~ Rae
lml...just wanted to say that you're not alone and having 2 ladies like Rae and Amy in your corner is pretty damn lucky.
I didn't tell my husband for a year and a half that I had relapsed. I figured why rock the boat right? Well, he found out and was so hurt that I hadn't let him in and made him a part of my recovery. He was more upset that I didn't trust him and now doesn't trust me because he's always wondering what else I haven't told him.
It made my journey that much harder. That secret kept me sick. I was so sure that the outcome would be devasting...I was wrong. He was right where I needed him to be. Give your husband that opportunity.

Hi, I've been reading these posts for a while and I didn't think I'd post-I guess I figured I wouldn't be scared LOL-anyway I'm trying to taper or quit-Ive been taking lortab 7.5's for 3 years now, and I get 90 a month. I usually run out in a week. I honestly couldn't figure out why I was sick last month for 2 weeks straight, after reading your posts I think I understand. Well I ran out yesterday and I'm scared of being sick again-its horrible-no appetite, nausea, aches, headache. I home school, and have to be up and in control of my house everyday. I'm so glad to know theres people out there who have problems like me-it helps alot
tasia,
Welcome to the board! Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. I have been busy all day.. Anyway it sounds like you are in for a pretty rough time. So if your taking 90 pills a week that is like 13 a day... I would suggest sticking it out this time and getting it done and over with.. The withdrawl ( Flu-Symptoms) won't last forever! Do you want to talk to your doctor about your addiction? He may be more understanding than what you think and he can help you get through this.
Are you having legit pain or just taking them now so you don't get sick? Have you considered finding a suboxone doctor? That may be another option. What about meetings or out-patient treatment or counseling? I hope to hear from you soon. Take care and hang in there! Rae

Im kinda torn about talking to my doctor-I have severe migraines and chronic side pain at night-he prescribed me 2 at night and the rest for migraines-the problem is yes i get sick if i dont take alot during the day, and i feel better when I'm on them (energywise ect.) not high anymore though. But If I tell him-what will I do for migraines, besides not wanting anyone to know or see me having w/d's, he might not be able to help me-Ive tried so many migraine medicines and they don't touch the pain-just give me wierd side effects. LOL I know I'm in for a rough time, it's nice to know theres otheres struggling too-it gives me hope =}
Just wanted to put this at the top of the page today for anyone that is detoxing or tapering of pain meds ??? If Mls, night owl, lml or anyone else that was on this thread about a month ago please respond. That is if your still out there somewhere.. Would love to hear from you and any others that are still in active addiction or people in early recovery... Tell us your story..Let us offer you support.. You never know who you may also give hope to....... Rae
Help,
My youngest son called me two days ago and asked if he could return home. He said he was addicted to opiates. He hasn't taken anything for seven days and should be home in a few days. He said he will be in pretty bad shape when he gets here. I never heard of this and I have no idea what I can do for him or what I should have here. Please help me.....

If he hasn't had anything in 7 days and it'll be a few days before he gets there...he'll be over the worst of it. That is if he's telling you the truth. What is or was, he taking? And how much?
Time to get yourself educated about addiction so that you can deal with this.
If you go to your local bookstore, there are many excellent books on the subject. There is also another forum on the message board, called friends and families. Its for people like you.
There is also Alanon. They are support meetings for family members of addicts and alcoholics. Most towns and cities have them. Look in your local phone book.
Glad you found us and I hope some of this helps.
Most important thing to remember is that you have to take care of yourself first. Don't compromise your own health or well being in order to deal with him.

Thanks cowgirl,
I will go to the bookstore tomorrow and check on Alanon also. I really don't have any details regarding my son. He kept things short and said he just needed to get here. Thanks again.
