I am just curious to see how many people work-out. For those of you that do exercise can you tell me what you do? Do you go to a gym? Do you work out at home? Do you walk, run, lift weights? Do you do crunches, lundges, squats?
Does anyone know of any good diets? Vitamins? What about good books to read? I bought the Ultimate weight loss book by Dr. Phil but really haven't had time to read it.
I do work-out in a gym 3 days a week! I spend about 45 minutes doing Cardio and about an hour on everything else. I resently bought a treadmill and have been walking/running about 2 miles a day. My goal is to lose 10-15 pounds by November. I know that isn't a lot but that is my goal. Working out gives me so much energy and I really enjoy that time to myself. The best part is seeing the results.
So I would love to hear from everyone. Even those that haven't worked out in a while but would like to start.
I recently started working out and i love it!
I jog a mile and then bike a mile.
I do streteches for about 30 min. beforehand.
I'm doing this about 3 days a week.

Good for you Stac!! Are you doing this at home or at the gym?
I have been walking a mile and then running a mile. I hope to work myself up to 3-4 miles a day but one day at a time. LOL After I run I am pumped. While running I think I am Rocky and all I can think of is that song " eye of the tiger". LOL It feels so good to take a warm shower after a long work-out. It is so nice having a treadmill I can run on here at the house. Now I don't have to waste my time at the gym doing that.
I have been trying to eat healthy and stay around 1800 calories a day. It's hard for me because I love sugar.
How bout you? Are you counting calories? Watching what you eat? Your so young and tiny you make me sick. LOL What are you a size 3?

found a protein drink called Natures way--ALIVE--Mix it up the powder once in the morning with a banana-and 8oz of O.J --Lunch I mix the powder with Water fruit and dinner eat some protein. Drink minimum 80-100oz of water a day.
Vitamins a good multi--Equate--Oscal(Calcium) and a multi B-12
I stay away from Bad sugars eat a lot of whole grain--and always cheat once a week.
It works pretty well. As you get older its amazing how much harder it is to lose weight.
Good luck--Jeff

Hey Rae and everyone
I still do the boxing class. Its so awesome. First we warm up with jump rope. Then lately we either go outside and run a few laps, then we do lunges going up a hill 3x. Then we line up 6 of us at a time and we sprint up the hill--5x. Then we go inside and do speed drills on the punching bags. Some days we do circuit training inside with weights, LOTS of squats and lunges all throughout the whole hour. Lots of pushups-- stepper stuff, etc. Our instructor really mixes it up. Once a week we get to spar in the ring for 2min rounds and that is so tiring you cant imagine.
Jeff-- I just bought the Natures way Alive multivitamin!! It seems really good-- today is day 2 for me
take care everyone!!

A 3??? I used to be a 2 a few years ago...
I'm an 7/8 now. I'd love to lose 15-20 lbs. i'm 140. lol
Thanks for the compliment though!
As for the gym, yes we have a nice gym at the apartments we've moved to. I used their treadmill, elipticals, bikes, and do some weights, nothing heavy.
I used to be in such good shape when i was in karate. i got my black belt when i was 11. i could do pushups on my knuckles forever.... wish i would never have quitted that!
Thanks for the topic, now i'm about to run my arse out the door to the gym. lol
and i have 'eye of a tiger' stuck in my head now.
stac
edited to say that i am drinking a lot of water and eating much smaller portions. trying to eat healthy is expensive.

Tim,
Tell me more about the yoga class...1x a week.......yoga studio!! I would love to hear about it. Exactly what do you do?
Jeff,
I may have to try that drink. My boyfriend lives off Full Throttles. I took a few sips out of one a month ago and I didn't like it. I don't like anything that makes me jittery. The drink you mentioned sounds like something that is better for you. I hear you about the getting older and it being harder to lose weight. I am 33 years old and I have always been pretty tiny
I never had to exercise or watch what I ate until about 2 years ago. My 3rd child is 2 1/2 years old. She really did a # on me. I went from 118-167 lbs when I got pregnant with her. Then again I quit smoking, quit taking pills and had gestational dibetes when I was pregnant.
After I had her I went back down to about 129 lbs and I am stuck there. I have so many size 3 jeans in my closet it is sick. I would really like to lose about 10-15 pounds. I don't care if I see a size 3 again but a size 5 would be nice. Right now I am a 7. I will get there but it is frustrating to have to work so hard and watch what I eat. Especially after being so little all my life.
Fire,
I am EXHAUSTED after reading your post. LOL I bet you have BUNS OF STEAL-After doing all those lundges. Those lundges are a bit*h..This girl at my gym had me doing them with her. She was really trying to kill me with those-haha. I only do about 25 a day when I remember to do them. I admit, I need to get into a routine with doing them and the squats. It sounds like you have a good time. I bet when you leave you feel like you can take on the world, huh?
Thanks for the responses. It's good to see so many people working out and taking care of their bodies.
Stac,
You GO GIRL and your right portions.. That is my biggest problem. I have been learning that portions are a big part of my problem.

Before I got sick, I was riding my bike 10-12 miles a day. When I was sick, nothing. Now that I am getting better, I'm back out but it was to be above 20 degrees or so, so nothing for the last month or so.
Depending on where you live there should be a Yoga studio.Aren't you in the Miami area?
It's usually 10-15 bucks a class.I do Vinyassa flow which is a type of Hatha yoga where you go from one pose to the next. It's quite athletic actually.I always work up a good sweat.I'm still doing beginner and intermediate.I'm a little bulky to be doing advanced yoga.
It's actually a great way to slim down.It taxes the muscles in a way most exercises don't.I got involved in it because I wanted more flexability for surfing. It definitely does that and is a great compliment for weight training. It keeps the muscles stretched out.
I think you would love it Rae.I'm trying to get my best friend John to do it but he still thinks it's a chick thing.LOL It's not.I find it a lot harder than weight training sometimes. One of the added benefits is the whole mid, spirit, body connection that yoga does.
Good Luck

Rae I can eat and drink anything. Taste? When you like whiskey at age 12? Foods you name it i ate it.
Anyway this ALIVE is all nutrients--know crap--but the flavor? I use O.J and also today tried something new. And it tasted great. Took 2 mixed berry liquid yogurt and some fruit and added the vanilla powder. Tasted great.
But for calories and sugar intake only once a day with the yogurt or O.J otherwise just water .
--Sheet I am 44 and to be honest I have never been able to keep my weight steady. With this plan I lose a 1-2 pounds a month. I am never hungry. And for th first time I am holding my weight.
I have more energy and am happy. It helped the depression not some stupid PILL.
If you have a Whole foods store that is where i found it.
They swear by it.
Chocolate is never in stock.
Try it --it may work for you. Make sure you get enough fiber and protein in your diet.

yes from the bed to the bathroom .. I do this every morning.
I'm really impressed with how much everyone does.
LOL @ Brooke..that's about it for me after my surgery. I used to do Kickboxing and a paletes (sp?) class. Would love to start yoga, I think it would be good for me. I'm kinda limited right now. One thing for sure...when in early recovery and once you get through the worst of the withdrawals, excersize will safe your life and sanity.

I wouldn't sell my bike for all the money in the world. Not for a hundred million, billion, trillion dollars!
You sure look an awful lot like PeeWee.....
There's a lot of things about me that you don't know anything about, Lisa. Things you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't understand. Things you shouldn't understand. You don't want to get mixed up with a guy like me. I'm a loner, Lisa. A rebel.
No you're not. You're a sweetheart. You don't fool me buddy boy.
Hey Rae,youve just touched a very important topic for me.Ive been saying for the last 6 months i was going to get back to exercising.A few times i did for a day or two, once i did for 2 weeks, but prior to that i had a regular routine for over 3 years, ever single day, sometimes twice a day,i was addicted to exercising and eating healthy. The pills helped kill that for me.
My husband and i have started back at the Y,we just signed up for the family plan, and tomorrow morning 5 am sharp,we will bwe there for our first time together in 6 months. We'll start slow, but we are dedicated to do this and do it together!
I will prbably only do 45 min on the treadmill each morning for awhile, then will start the weight trianing, slowly.Ive gained alot of weight and the last thing i need is to hurt a knee or something.
I know how great exercise is and how great it makes you feel in so many ways.Ive enjoyed getting my clothes and ipod ready tonight, but 4 am when the alarm goes off,i probably wont be as excited, but we both know its somethign we have to do first thing in the mornign or we put it off. Then i find i like to meet up with a friend and go later in the afternoon alot too,i have a long way to go,alot of weight to lose and then i need to make it a regualr routine again, for life~KIM

Great topic Rae. Exercise is critical for my serenity. I usually do 45 minutes of the Cybex "Arc" and 20 minutes of rowing. I try to do some of the cable weight machines, as well. Lately, I have fallen off course with my routine but this week I am confident I will make it my priority once again. Last week I was at a business meeting and did not do a thing except work. Like Tim, I enjoy Yoga but I haven't done it in awhile.
Jeff, I will check out Whole Foods for your drink. Great suggestion.

Okay I admit it we cooked out new york strips and I am stuffed. I don't feel too guilty because it was GOOD!!
I am happy to see so many people working out and getting motivated.
Danny,
I remember a couple years ago when you were riding your bike. I used to say to myself that man is CRAZY. hehe Hope your having a nice warm weekend. I hear it is pretty chilly in your neck of the woods.
Tim,
There are all kind of classes at the gym I go to. I will have to look into that class. It sounds something I would be interested in doing. Thanks for the info!
Brooke-
LOL That was me a couple years ago. The only exercise I was getting was walking to the frig and back!! Your silly, I know you & your husband work out several days a week. I bet you guys are getting big and skrong:-0)
Kim,
I won't say I'll be thinking about you at 4am. I don't see 4 am unless I am going into have surgery or I am headed to the airport. LOL I will wish you luck now.. Seriously, good for you wanting to get in shape. It's great that you and your husband are able to do it together. My mom and I go to the gym 3 days a week. It's nice to have someone to work out with and talk to. We also check out all the HOT guys and comment on about everyone. LOL Were so bad but it's fun. If you stay focused, watch what you eat and exercise you will lose weight.
Rachel,
What is Cybex "Arc"? You lost me on that one.
Thanks for all the responses.
