Duragesic Patches/fentanyl Topical

HELP ME WITH KNOWLEGE OF GETTING OFF AND WITHDRAWS!! I WANT OFF!!!!!!!!
Hi Cuddles...sorry the board seems to be a little slow tonight.

How much are you taking and for how long? Are you under a dr's care now?

Cowgirl
I have been on these things for 2 yrs straight now. i take 75 mcg. but they dont last the full 72 hrs. and i still have pain. when it is over time to change i start going through withdraws. i feel crazy. i am 42 yrs old, and have copd also. but the withdraws make me feel like i want to run and tear up stuff, i yawn alot, strech alot, it is hard to explain but i dont like it. thank you for talking to me!!! i need help and information!! This is my first time on here, so i am new at this, just searching for answers! Yes i am under dr.'s care.
Ok, Cuddles. First off I want you to breathe.

Have you talked with your dr about this? Are you abusing the meds at all? If not, your dr should be able to help. Even if you are abusing, can you trust him to help you?

The withdrawals are tough and with the amount and type of drug you're taking, I'm not going to advice you to do it cold turkey and by yourself. You really need to tell someone.

You do want off of them right?

Cowgirl
Just a suggestion since you are taking something so strong-If you really want to come off the patches and the only thing stopping you is fear of the withdrawls you could possibly use a Suboxone detox. It has worked wonders for me as a tool to get off pain pills and heroin and alot of other people on this board have used it too , but as I said it is a tool to help you not a miracle cure.I can personally say it has been successful for me, and I am glad that I tried it .
yes i told my dr. and she told me it would be "HELL" getting me off, so i have to go talk to some other dr on the 31st. i have not abused them. i have since i started them, went into depression. so she sent me to a counsler who put me on depakote as well as lexapro. and when i take them they make me sleep all the time. even when i drive.(i dont drive if i'm tierd) i just get tierd while i'm driving. sometimes i sleep a long time. but since i have been on them i have not been off at all. what will happen when i go all the way through withdraws? that scares me!!! i have a very beautiful 3 yr old grandson i watch everyday. i enjoy him alot, but i want to be here for awhile longer!!!!!!!!
what is subox one? i have never heard of it
While you are going thru withdrawls you will not likely be able to care for your grandson for about a week .The withdrawls feel like a very bad flu.Loss of sleep ,diarrhea, runny nose, sneezing ,achy joints and muscle sfrom what you have described as your patch not working it would intensify but only for about a week most of the people here have done it without help a few times and I did not know you had never tried to quit before the beauty is you only have to do it once.As for the Suboxone you can Google it and find out more than I could explain just to find out what it does is self explanatory on the web site .It just makes the w/d's alot more comfortable so you do not have to completely disrupt your life ,but since you are not abusing the patch your doctor could probably safely detox you himself but alot of doctors do not want to lose their patients I would definitely recommend you talk with your doctor and if he/she does not want to help you detox then I might try to find an addiction specialist that prescribes Suboxone to detox you over no more than like 2 weeks since you are not abusing your meds.Suboxone drs. can only treat 30 patients at a time and the shorter the detox the better from what I have researched but like I said in the beginning this is my opinion and although most of us pill addicts know a good bit about pills and withdrawls it is ultimately between you and a dr. what will work best for you .
i was told that morifine was worse than heroin. i don't know the difference, and i don't know what the withdraws are for heroin. i have been around addicts before. but they began,(as you said) vomiting and cramping real bad. but i feel like kicking, running, streaching, yawning, just really wierd when they start to go out of my system. i guess the unknown it is worst part! i just know i don't like being addicted to them!!

I thought everyone left me!! sorry, like i said this is my first time here. but i will say i love the support you all give!!!!!!!!! even to me one my first time. i have a couple friends, if you don't mind, i would like to recomend to this site.
i was on vioxx, bextra, and celebrex, all at once, before they put me on these morifine patches. they worked great!!!!
This message board is a wonderful tool for anyone trying to get help you can tell anypne you want to post here and hopefully we will gain a new friend to walk one day at a time with us it is a beautiful thing and once we have found sobriety what makes it worth while is to share it with others .
As for you feeling different I have done the fentanyl patches myself and I understand what you are saying the symptoms increas after the first 48 hrs of w/d and I promise you wont be running and jumping .What is the longest period of time you have gone w/out the patch at one time?
If the other drugs worked well for you then if you can get off the patch I am sure that you can find an anti inflammatory that will work for you again you are definitely at a point that you can work this out you may be uncomfortable for a few weeks but absolutely it is never hopeless. You really need to emphasize to your dr. that the other meds worked for you
I don't want you to think this isn't a big deal, but i have only went about 6 hours over. but now it's getting to be about 48 hrs is all it last, but i wait the full 3 days. not the full 72 hrs but longer than 48. i try to go as long as i can. i went to the hospital one night they gave me a shot of adavan. it worked. did you have to go in the hospital for your withdraws? hoe long was you on them? why were you on them? mine is for arthritis, but i also have other health problems. could i just take my self off them slowly. like cut my patch in half and go backwards? what happens after the feelings start? what comes next? when does it happen? i'm sorry i am just REALLY SCARED AND AFFRAID!!!!
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! DO NOT CUT YOUR PATCH-as this will cause you to overdose .Your dr. will have to give you lower doses of the patch and he will. For arthritis that is probably a little strong dont you think? As for the Ativan they actually use that to ween you off drugs so if that worked for you my suggestion would be this...I would go to my dr. tell him the patch is not doing well for you and you feel worse instead of better tell him that before Vioxx was taken off the market it worked fine and tell him you need something to eases withdrawls as you would like to quit taking the patch and that in the past Ativan has worked and ask him if you could you use the Ativan and another stronger anti-inflammatory to help you with the w/d's I would not reccomend using the Ativan for too long and then maybe very occasionally after you finish w/d's just continue w/NSAID and in 2 weeks you should be good to go.
Asfor the w/d I personally would quit worrying about them you wont die form them especially if you are monitored by your dr.(which I highly recommend) since Morphine is extremely strong and if you are in your 40's because you are a woman and 1 out of 2 of us die from heart disease so call your dr. and make an appt. You will be so happy to get off the patchyou will get to feel how happy your grandson really makes you AGAIN!!! and I promise it will be better than before because you will actually be able to feel again.Good Luck I hope you will find some answers!
you know i feel alot better today since you told me some things i guess i needed to be reassured that everything would be ok. i want to thank you for that. i can deal with what ever comes my way i just want to be prepared. if i know what to expect then i will know how and when to go about doing what has to be done. i live a ways out from my dr. that is why i was wanting to know detail about the withdraws, so if i need to, i will just get a room in town for the worst of it in case i need to get to her real quick. you are right, i want to feel like i use to feel!!!!!!! you just don't know how you have helped me in this!!! i was so afraid i was going to die, and never see my kids, & grandson much longer. i never have figured out why the pain clinic put me on these any way. this picture is what i feel like doing when i start to go through withdraws.
congratulations on making a life affirming decision!

Nice avatar!...lmao
lol; thank you!!! I can't say enough how reading all of you're comments has made me feel so much better. most of all i don't even know how i got on this site, but, i'm sure glad i did!!!!! i had been looking and looking for answers. i see God does work in misterious ways!!!!!!!! you have a great day!!!! again thank you so much!
Hello Everyone and Welcome to the Board,
I just saw your post re: Fentanyl Patches. I am so glad you were able to get support here. I have been able to get off of the Fentanyl Patches, under a Dr.'s supervision. There are ways to get off of the "patch" that are manageable. It sounds like you are doing the right thing, asking your Dr. I did not like being on the "patch", my Dr. had me change it every 48hrs, due to pain returning and physical withdrawals. I think there are other ways, under a Dr.'s care to manage pain. I was so tired, and just not "myself" while on the "patch". I also know another website, with a nurse that oversees Duragesic topic. She has alot of experience and knowledge for those on the "patch", and how to taper off, as comfortable as possible. If you are interested in the website, I can post it. I think it is, Painaid.com. Good luck, you have made a great decision. Take care, Best Wishes
thank you all so very much for all the support!!!!!!!! i am not afraid to kick this thing. I'm ready!! BRING IT ON!!!!! let's get on with it and over it asap. I am going to kick this once and for all. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!!! i called the dr. today and told her i was ready for what ever was to come my way. so i will greatly appreciate all the prayers i can get, because i have the support here i don't get at home. that means the world to me!!!!!!! we all have to stick together!!!!!
Hey there cuddles....wow, what a miracle you are!

Keep posting to let us know and to be able to help you.
