Gina

BeckyJean,

I'm so glad to hear that your cousin is doing so much better. That is great news. I know your whole family must be so relieved, and thankful. Did they ever determine whether or not it was a spider bite? My brother was bitten by a brown recluse and the flesh literally died and rotted out. He has a scar on his calf, the size of a baseball. He spent lots of time at the dr's office and a few days in the hospital. He had to keep going back, so that they could clean out the dead tissue. (gross, I know) And yes, I love Halloween as much as the kids. Jeff and I dress up every year and go trick or treating with them. I tend to get a little carried away with the costumes and decorations... but hey, I didn't get to do that when I was little, so I'm making up for it now. Have you ever bought your dogs a pig ear? My Buff girl loves them! She will gnaw on it and eat it within a couple of days. My girlfriend was horrified that I would buy those, and swore that her miniature yorkie would NEVER eat something like that. Last year for Christmas, I gave her yorkie a pig ear. It was almost as big as him, but that little dog ate every morsel...LOL.. Oh, and even my dog is dressing up this year. She's going as a cat.

Gina.. We're going trick or treating tomorrow night. I just now finished up the costumes for school, and I'm done for the day. My mom wanted me to go with her to the church festival, but I declined. Are you making your boys' costumes? I want you to take pictures. In fact, I think we should start a thread on Tuesday morning for Halloween pictures. Let everyone share. Which reminds me, I need to get batteries for my digital camera. I'll even take a picture of the egg, butterfly and cat... although, I'm not sure they are worthy of a photograph...LOL

Hugs,
DeNae
I did that? Helped you with the HP? I still remember the roses..

You said...I come from two families of government officials (three generations on the losing side, starting with the last emperor, lol) and was raised to think that changing the world was the only thing that mattered. Keeping anything in peace was an alien concept to most of my relatives -- who would have happily nuked anything in their way if they had had WMDs. I guess I was always the odd one out. I went to a Quaker college. Kind of threw my grandfather, the army officer and summary executioner for a loop. I try not to let them rent space in my head anymore (formerly being the slumlord of Chinese dysfunctional families, lol). It's a lot roomier in here now. Hmmm, did I just say I'm empty-headed?

I would love to hear this in detail.....sounds interesting. I just found out that our irish family that came from the old country were whiskey makers in penn. and that I am a descendent (did I spell that right?) of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence...Thomas Clarke. I am going to retrace it this Thanksgiving with my sister, she has all the documents.

I like school...and I am not destitute...yet. Being the conservative single mom, I kinda knew this day would come, and have prepared...sort of.

I am enjoying those kids, though. The baby started preschool and it is so neat to watch her grow....I actually get to see my middle one, and just might undo the duct tape on the now 14 year old's mouth. Maybe not.

Peace, ladies. I have to get the animals out of the house, before they duct tape me.

Kerry
Dear Denae:

Can't wait to see those pictures.
Like I say - your children will remember this always and probably keep the tradition going with their families.

My cousin did not start getting better until Wendy told me about the Brown Recluse and I called my cousin (his sister) which I am now very thankful for her strong personality.
She went to doctors and issisted they treat him for the spider bite even though they "thought" that wasn't causing it.The doctors say they have no idea what worked but it's odd that my cousin woke up within 36 hours of his heated sister's conversation w/doctors.
I will be thanking Wendy forever - is that not a miracle - through this board all the way by phone to Florida to the doctors.
I had not even asked what kind of spider.
When he was bitten, they removed the finger and said that took care of it - even though in hospital - this area had already started looking better - turned really red and was very swollen - it makes sense to me.

Our family is celebrating. We are waiting to hear at any time if the ventilator was removed successsfully the 1st time. The DR's have warned them that he has been on it so long - the 1st time may not work but they say he is bretahing on his own for the most part and the ventilator has already been turned way down - if that makes sense
I hope the 1st time will be a charm

Like my s-in-law said "God is good"
There were prayers all over the country - my cousin teaching how to fly helicopters has taken him all over. B/c of his parents age he was just finishing moving to Fl when this happened, not even unpacked.
He's so sweet, he really loves to teach but he will be teaching in a simulator in Fla - that's a nice fella - to do that to be close to his parents - he told my brother that was why - he didn't tell his parents that was why he was moving.

You have a ball tinight - I know you and your family will.
I look forward to pictures tomorrow.

Love you dearly,
Becky Jean
Hey girls, I was catching up on this thread and my mind can't get past one thought.
DeNae, how in the world did you make a costume of an egg? And what character was your daughter that she wound up being one? That struck me as so funny.
We did characters out of Night of the Living Dead tonight. One mother of a three year old or so, Minnie Mouse, told us we were sick people. It made our night, lol.
My daugher originally wanted to use this toilet lid around her head with her face painted brown. She didn't match the rest of the family, though.
At one point my youngest son ran ahead and returned with the most unbelievable amount of candy. Apparantly someone foolishly left a whole bowl sitting on the porch. He just dumped it into his bag. I was going to insist we return the majority of it and then suddenly parents and kids were everywhere.
He didn't stray the rest of the evening and got a lecture on the way home about the honor system.
I am munching on his stash as we speak, lol.
Did all of you have fun tonight?
Love, Kat
Hey Kat... sounds like you guys had fun. Yeah, its always a good sign when someone is disgusted by your costume...LOL
We had a ball. We all made it home in one piece. Well, I'm missing a strip of flesh over my eyelid, but other than that we made it. As soon as we got in the house, my five year old came over to hug me and thank me for taking her and she looks up at me and says, "I'll take that off for you, Momma".. and rippppppppppppppppppp ... she ripped my fake eyelash off. OMG.. I howled in pain... Jeff was howling too, with laughter.. (sh*thead)

About the egg...LOL.. Jesi picked out a book called, "Every Egg"... its a story that tells about all of the different animals that come from eggs. I was hoping she'd pick out one of the animals... but no... she HAD to be the egg. I took two white poster boards, and cut them into the shape of an egg, and took a black sharpie and drew a crack across each egg. Then, I took a yellow poster board, and cut out yellow "runny" stuff, and glued it along the cracks. Then, I took yarn, and attached them, so that she could slip it over her head, and have an egg in the front and an egg in the back... It actually turned out pretty good. Sounds simple, but it took me a while...LOL

Here's the egg and butterfly...I'm still working on the ones I took tonight for trick or treating.
