I hope this isn't to personal. I used Vicodin for 5 yrs and have been clean for 4 months (except for 2 weeks two months ago when I needed it for legit pain). I so much happier now.
Mike
i used oxy every single day for about two years, maybe a little more... i used, not heavily, got pregnant, quit the whole time and after i had her used for a solid two years... i've been a little over 4 months clean i think. i lost count of my clean time but have it written down in my daily planner somewhere....
i do use sub though...so some people may not think that is 'clean' but i am out of active addiction and feel better than i have in a long time.
congratulations on your clean time and i hope you hang around the board. there are some awesome people here that are true inspirations.

Hi Mike,
I was addicted for 6 years to Vicodin. I have been clean for 5 1/2 months untill about 3 days ago. (large kidney stone) . I know how good I feel being clean. It was such a relief. I will be clean again after this is over.

I will probably start a war here..I DON'T MEAN TO, but when you take medication as prescribed, and no more...I don't think that stops your "clean time" count. If you use in a different way, you will know, and you can stop your counting then...this, of course, is just my opinion.
Gina, Keep Countin!

I agree with Sarah.
I also think if you do relapse you don't loose your "clean" time.
I think that if you are taking suboxone you are "clean".
To answer your question:
I took pills for 5 years. I began taking suboxone on June 29th. I took suboxone for 22 days. On December 29th I will be 6 months pill free.

Vicodin off and on for about a year, more on towards the end. I straightened up on my own for about 3 months. Just used 2 or 3 times in that time period. Then started heavily using oxys for about 4 months straight.
I don't count time or days.

Sarah that makes a lot of good sense. :)
I was (and am) addicted to Vicodin for about 2 yrs, every day excessive use. I have not been able to get off these damn pills, but I have cut my use way down.
Hey Dawn!
Many moons, no see!
Glad to see you posting!

I took Vicodin everyday for around 5 years (I actually forget exactly but would say approximately 5 years). It grew from 1 - 2 a day to 10 a day. I quit about 16 months ago. Now and then issues arise that have to be dealt with but for the most part I believe I have this addiction behind me. Im too aware of how easy it is to get hooked and how difficult it is to stop.
DALE/DAWN - how much are you taking and for how long? Before I found this site, I didnt know how I would ever stop the addiction. When I was getting low, I remember how horrible I would start to feel and only imagined the worse should I stop altogether. It was easier and faster to do than I thought. I post here now and then because there are some here I feel Ive come to know and I really care for and for those who may be similar to me and think they cant do it. When you are indeed ready to be pill free for good, you can do it. I would like to know just how many you take and for how long.

Used and abused for 5 years. Clean time almost a year. Shantel
Used consistently for 26 years. Mostly Percocet. Been clean for over 2 years.
I agree Sarah. If you (and only you know) are using as prescribed and are accountable, you haven't lost your clean time. You'll struggle to get back to where you were before you had to take the meds, but you can do it with hard work and support. Personally, I think people who take sub along with a recovery program are clean. If they aren't abusing the sub, taking it as prescribed, then I think you're clean.

It was 2000, when I was first prescribed. Only the last 2 years did it get "out of control". I think when its on your mind, and you constantly run out early, that is a sign. I let it just about kill me (really) and a friend just died of oxy at 48, in early nvember. It was a major wake up for me. I was doing 60mg methadone, (thought it would help me get off the compound hydros, but i abused them, and got hooked) I stopped mdone november 12 (ct) and stopped over 15-18 a day 15/325 pills on December 1st.... also cold turkey. After spending almost a month in bed and sick... it is --------------------23 DAYS TODAY. I AM SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (did I mention I was really happy to be clean, lol!!) I won't BS though, It was SO freaking hard. I will hope and pray to NEVER go through that again!!! Hindsite, treatment would have been better. Too many weird things happened to the body, and lucky I had this as a reference point, everyone was so helpful. Bren
I wrote my answer for just PILLS not all drugs, if we're talking about all drugs then I had used for a solid 7 years... I was heavily addicted to coke when I was a teen. I also did acid, shrooms, meth, ether, nitrous, ... basically anything i could get my hands on... and of course weed.
i'm so thankful i do not rely on drugs to get me through the day anymore....

Not sure if i am alone on this..
but although i am aware that the term "clean" is used in the world of rehabilitation..
I find it just a bit disturbing, as ones brain consciously or not would conclude that if one is "clean" when they abstain...then they are "DIRTY" when they do not....
Why does such a negative word have to be used..why cant it be "using" and "not using" "on drugs" "Off drugs " or "quit using drugs.."
Im big on the subliminal messages, and even took a course on subliminal advertisement in College and so I may be more open to this then those who know nothing about it..
Anyone agree or am i standing out here in left field all alone??lolol
No Matter...just wanted to share my thoughts on the term..
Hugs to all

I think clean is appropriate. Your body is clean of the poisons. When you are using, your body is dirty with poisons. I think its very fitting.
